Exercise - Day 1
May 19, 2009
Tonight I went to the gym for the first time since surgery. I rode the bike for about 20 minutes and did some leg, back and ab exercises. I felt a bit out of place and didn't know how to use most of the equipment. I know in time that problem will go away. I really want to get fit, not just skinny. I know the only way to achieve this is through exercise and a balanced diet.
My clothes are starting to get very loose. It's taking a lot longer for me to have that problem than some people do because before surgery almost all of my clothes were too small. Most of them were tight. I was in a 26/28 (tight) and now am comfortably wearing a 22 pants and a 3x (22/24) shirts. However t-shirts in a 3x is way too big, so I'm more of a 2x in those.
I finally after 2 months found a protein powder that I actually really like! I have a shake for breakfast every morning which combined with the protein from the skim milk plus gives me 34 grams a day!!! I try to have something high in protein for lunch. Today I had taco salad with very little lettuce. For dinner I had a small pork chop with BBQ sauce.
I am struggling with the vitamins & calcium. Only because swallowing pills is extremely difficult for me - even prior to surgery. Today I was able to swallow a calcium pill. That was progress.
Tomorrow is weigh in day. The weight is coming off so slow now compared to the first 2 months. I want to get down to 250 so bad! I know I'm not going to make it tomorrow. Hopefully next week though. At the rate I'm going even next week is doubtful! I know it will eventually come off though so I just have to be patient and keep plugging along.
Guess that's all for now. God Bless!!!

Mini Milestone
May 10, 2009
Today is Mothers Day and it was a good day. My mother lost her mom 3 months ago today. My sister and I let my mom decide where she wanted to go for lunch. She chose Ryans (nothing like a buffet 2 months post op...). I was really dreading it, but when I got there they allowed me to eat off of the kids price (9 to 12 years old). I was really glad because I knew I couldn't eat almost $11 worth of food! It was actually very enjoyable. I tried two meats and ended up liking the way the ham went down the best. So I ate 3 mini bites of steak and made the ham the main meat. I also had a tablespoon of sweet potatoes and some beans. For desert I had 1/2 bite of a chocolate chip cookie...basically a nibble only. I was really proud of myself. I didn't over eat at all and chose mostly protein items.
My milestone moment was when I was able to sit on the floor at church tonight during prayer time. It was so awesome! I can't remember the last time I actually sat in the floor and didn't feel like I was going to die. I actually haven't been in the floor in so long that I don't remember when it was!
I've fallen into the bad habit of weighing every day. I am determined to quit doing that. It is actually quite depressing. I'm going to go back to once a week starting now! I've found a protein I like so I'm going to really be able to get my protein in! I just wish I could find some calcium that wasn't horrible! Little by little I'll get everything down pat. I know it's going to take time. I am struggling to get my vitamins & calcium in everyday. This along with the protein is not optional. I did this surgery to get healthy and if I don't take my vitamins & calcium like I'm suppose to it will just make me unhealthy. That is not going to happen! This is my kick in the hiney to get it back on track!!! I wanted to post this so anyone pre-op reading this will see even if you have the best intentions pre-op, which I did, sometimes you get off track...but, the key to this lifelong change is, when you get off track don't sweat it. Just get back on track and try to stay there!!!
That's all for now. I'm almost done with my bottle of water and then off to bed I go!
God Bless!!!

7 Weeks Out
Apr 22, 2009
Confession time! I am struggling with getting enough fluids and protein! I just can't stand the protein drinks. So far I haven't found any that I really like. There is only one that I can tolerate and after drinking them 3 times a day for over a month, it gets old very quick! I must get them in though, it is not optional. Right now I can't eat enough to quit drinking them. It is taking it's toll on me. My energy level is not as good as it was last week. I'm certain it's because of the lack of protein. Other than this issue everything is going fine. I have still been able to tolerate everything I have tried. I am careful not to eat any real sugar and I'm limiting my carbs. (Not cutting them out completely.) I make sure to eat protein first. Someone on here suggested 2 to 3 bites of protein to one bite of carb. That seems to work really well.
Today was my weekly weigh in and I was pleased to have lost 7 pounds this week. I can't wait to get to 250...a personal mini-goal. Right now I'm at 265.5. Almost there! (I've lost a total of 48.5 since beginning this journey.)
I have been blessed to find a person on here with whom I have a lot in common. (Most importantly we are both devoted Christians who are very active in our churches.) I really think we are going to become really good friends. I thank God for bringing her into my life.
For now that is all.
God bless!!!

Feeling Normal at last!
Apr 13, 2009
Just a quick post to say that I can finally say I feel fine or great when someone asks! I have finally gotten to where I feel "normal" physically. (Despite getting full after only 5 or 6 bites of food. LOL) I walked up the stairs today at work twice and wasn't any more out of breath than before surgery. I'm going to begin an exercise regime tonight. When my hubby gets finished with what he is doing anyway! We are going to go for a walk.
I'm really looking forward to this next phase of my journey. I am going to try to start planning my meals better and making exercise a priority. I have so many things I want to do with my life and it's not going to be possible until I make it happen (with Gods help of course!). I have to quit being lazy and get up and move! I have to make an effort to prepare nutritional foods and eat them! It's all about making the effort. Now that I feel better, I have no more excuses.
Well, for now that's all!
God Bless!!!

5 weeks out tomorrow
Apr 08, 2009
Well, Wednesday is my "weigh day" and today I weighed in exactly as last week. It's ok though. I know this is typical and it won't last forever. I'm just going to try to do better at getting my protein in and starting an exercise program. Plus this week I am having a normal cycle! WOW! First time in years. That's got to add a little water weight...I guess?
I'm feeling a lot better this week. More energy than I've had since before surgery. It is nice to get back in the swing of things. That's all for now.
God Bless and happy losing!!!

4 Weeks Out
Apr 03, 2009
This week has been the best week so far. I am beginning to feel more "normal" and don't get exhausted so quickly. I am so glad of that! I hope to begin exercising tomorrow. Maybe that will help with my energy level.
Today I had my first "sandwich". It was 1/4 of a boiled egg sandwich and then I was so full! Little by little I'm trying new things. For lunch I had blackeyed peas for the first time. They were delicious!
I'm still struggling to get all of my liquids in each day. I had no idea that it would be so hard! Tomorrow I'm going to try to get a good schedule going of protein powder, vitamins and drinking. I've got to figure out a way to get everything in everyday.
My goal for the next month is to 1) get all of my liquids in; 2) get all of the vitamins & tums (calcium) in everyday; 3) get on a good eating/drinking schedule.
My next weight goal is 250! I was at 275 last Wednesday. I might hit this goal in the next month! That would be awesome!!!
Well, for now that's all.
God bless!!!

First Day Back at Work
Mar 16, 2009
Exhausting! The only word I can use to describe my first day back at the office. I feel fine other than being extremely tired. Everyday is considerably better than the day before so I'm hoping tomorrow will be better. Almost everyone said how they could tell I've already lost, especially in my face. I'm glad you can tell in my face. I can't tell because I look at it everyday. I'm just ready to feel it in all of my clothes. Guess today I'm just not feeling the WLS thing. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I did it because the scales have already moved a lot, but I just think if I could eat a good meal my energy would return....can't do that though! Today I'm testing out oatmeal. I'm so very glad I haven't gotten sick at all. I praise God that I'm not going to!!! That's all for now....God Bless!

Home from the hospital
Mar 07, 2009
Well, that wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I have a lot of gas discomfort and am tired, but overall feeling much better than expected. I lost 6 pounds in the hospital which was encouraging. I don't plan on weighing in but once a week. Saturday's will be my day. I'm going to rest for now. I'll be posting soon. God Bless!

Tomorrow's the big day!
Mar 04, 2009
Ok...so I'm getting really nervous thinking about how my life is going to be totally different after today. My tummy will NEVER be the same again. I am so looking forward to being lighter, but am also very concerned with adjusting to life after RNY. I have not heard from one single person who had this who said they wouldn't do it again. At this point, that is what is keeping me going.
My pre-op stuff today was interesting. They had to draw a ton of blood. It took 4 sticks before they got it. My veins kept rolling. Lots of fun. That was the worst part. I had an EKG, chest xray, answered a ton of questions about my medical history, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, etc. I also registered with the hospital so all I have to do in the morning is walk in and tell them I'm there.
Well, guess I'd better run for now. I've got to pack for the hospital stay. I'll post again as soon as I'm able.
God bless!!!

3 Days until Surgery Day!!!
Mar 02, 2009
Today I called the anesthesiologist and the hospital just to confirm all was well on the insurance side..it is! My surgery time is 11:00 am Thursday and I have to be at the hospital at 8:30 am. I will be going Wednesday for my pre-op blood work, ekg, chest x-ray, etc. I'll be glad to have all that done. I went to a counselor today (which I will not be going back to) just to have someone to talk to about my relationship with food. The only good thing that came out of it was I realized that sometimes I use negative words to express positive statements. So I'm going to work on that and also look for a different counselor. He did not have anything remotely close to my beliefs.
Tomorrow night I'll be driving to Atlanta with a friend to have dinner with another friend, then the pre-op appointment with the surgeon and then off to the hospital for all the pre-op testing, signing in, etc. I just really hope work goes very well tomorrow. I have so much I want to get done before leaving for a week!
Well, gotta go for now. God Bless!!!
