Well, where to start with my story.....

I am 42 years old and currently live in beautiful South Texas.  I am a divorced single mom now with a 16 year old daughter named Allysa.

I have been heavy my whole life.  My highest was this past year when I was tipping the scales at close to 500.  That freaked me out.  I couldn't believe I had let myself get that out of control.  I started yet another diet in 2006 and managed to get off around 75 pounds in 6 months but only to gain back 25 of it.  I had been looking into WLS for years and even have a couple of friends that have had it.  I was so jealous.  I guess that part that bugged me the most was how they had the surgery but have not taken it seriously.  While they did manage to lose a lot of the weight, they were eating chicken nuggets from McDonald's on the 3rd day.  I swore then if I ever got lucky enough to have it, I would follow it to the tee.  So I finally get the paper work and fill everything out only to leave it sitting on my desk for over 6 months due to my fears.  I finally felt I was mentally prepared this year and in January started looking into the whole insurance process of it all.  Well my insurance didn't cover it, they said even if it was medically necessary, they would NOT cover it.  What a bummer.  So I decided to go hit up dear old Daddy for a loan.  I would of put money on it he was going to say "hell no" but instead he was very responsive and said heck yeah he would pay for it!!  WOW!!!  I couldn't believe my ears.  So in January I had my first initial consult with Dr. McDaniel. I was soooo nervous.  Everything went great and he said I was a great candidate for the surgery.  My story is a bit different from most though.....I did not have high blood pressure, no diabetes, and I take no meds.  I pretty much went in with no health problems other than my weight.  But I wanted to prevent myself from getting diabetes and other weight related complications.  So I busted my butt and got all my pre-surgery things taken care of and went in for my bypass on 2/26/2007.  I feel great and have had no complications whatsoever.  I cant wait for the day to finally go into a store and buy something off the rack!  yay!!
