How did I loose weight? That is the question that is on a lot of people’s minds. Everywhere I go I run into people that ask me the same question. If they don’t ask then they whisper is she sick? Is she on drugs? No none of that, I decided to have an elective surgery, Gastric Bypass Surgery! As most of my friends know I have been overweight my whole life. Thanks to my Carter family genes. All of my relatives are morbidly obese. Looking at my grandmother just scared me I don’t want to end up in a bed and not be able to get out and play with my grandkids! I want to live a long healthy life for my son and my grandkids.

It all started because of my brothers wedding. I weighed 235 Christmas 2004. I was going to be in my brothers wedding and in another wedding of an old friend that summer, so I had to loose weight! I did everything I could and still couldn’t loose weight. All my life I dieted on and off and back and forth never being able to loose. In the summer of 05’ in all the joy and happiness of the wedding I felt a complete depression set in. I looked in the mirror and saw nothing but fat. I knew that I just wasn’t ever going to be able to be skinny ever! I tried the hardest I have ever tried to loose weight in my life, and I failed. I knew that even if I dieted everyday for the rest of my life I would still be FAT.

The miracles of modern medicine gave me an option. I started the process to have gastric bypass surgery in October of 05’. It is not an easy process. I had to see my general practitioner once a month for seven months and follow a diet under Doctors supervision. I had to go through numerous counseling and testing sessions to make sure my body and my mind were ready for the surgery, and I had to go to weight lose support group meetings. On May 23, 2006 I had my gastric bypass surgery. I was scared but I knew it was something I had to do. I looked at it this way, I am young and in relatively good health my chances of a good and fast recovery are great. If I waited five or ten years then I would be even more over weight and have more medical problems and a harder time recovering. I am still young and I want to live my life to its fullest now!

Everything went great; my surgeon Dr. Bilton did a great job. The day of my surgery I started walking. Linda took care of me and helped me to a speedy recovery. Eight months later, I have lost 100 lbs. On May 23rd, I weighed 245 and today I weigh 145. I am 15 lbs away from my goal weight.  It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. I would recommend it to anyone who cannot loose weight on their own.  It is a life changing experience, not just in what you eat, but also, how you eat it. What I ate didn’t change that drastically. The only thing I miss that I can’t have is beer and soda, but that is a small price to pay for how great I feel. I went shopping for the first time in years, and I wear a size 10! I have not worn a size 10 since the sixth grade. Zach loves his new mom we play and run together I can do more things with him and not get so tired, I have loads more energy. I am more confident and outgoing, I look and feel like a new person.
