Monty's Home and Doing Well

Jun 06, 2008

We are home and doing well.  Monty had his surgery on Wednesday.  Boy was it a nerve racking day.  I think it is much easier being the patient then the family member.

For some reason they had a tough time.  His abdomen was much “denser” then they expected so she said she had a difficult time moving around.  She actually said “he’s gonna hurt like hell.”  And boy was she right.  He has definitely been uncomfortable I think its mostly been gas pressure.  The more he walks the more it comes up and he feels a little better.  He is doing great getting his fluids down with no problems.

I want to thank all of you who took the time to write such kind words this week.  They really comforted me in a very stressful time.  Can you believe once we got home yesterday I was making my lunch and chopped a huge chunk of my finger!  Monty yelled at me and said I shouldn’t be trying to cook “gourmet” I asked since when did making a salad classify as “gourmet”.  According to him if it requires a knife its to “gourmet” for me.  He generally does the cooking.  I always tell him that’s why I went to culinary school, to meet a husband who can cook.

Pictures Finally

May 30, 2008

I finally have taken the time to sit down and upload photos.  I’m sorry just after sitting in front of a computer all day at work I really don’t want to use mine once I get home.  Things are going well.  I’m 16 months out and still losing weight.  Averaging about 8lbs. a month.  I had really slacked off a bit.  I was complaining that that wasn’t enough to Tisha the APRN and she reminded me that I can’t complain if I don’t give it my all. I hadn’t exercised for a few months so I jumped back on the wagon and trying to be very consistent again.  I really do enjoy it, its just once you find an excuse not to go then you use any excuse not to go.  Monty is doing well.  His surgery date is this Wednesday the fourth.  I am very surprised how nervous I am.  I had no doubt or nervousness with my date but I’m having a bit of anxiety about him.  I’m not sure if its because I don’t want him to do it and not thinks its as wonderful as I do or maybe the thought of losing him.  Not sure just know the nerves are definitely working.

I love having him as my gym partner.  Its strange he doesn’t even act like he knows me. We don’t speak nothing the whole time but its just comforting having him there also.  We have been doing water exercise Tuesday and Thursday and then the regular gym on Wednesday and Saturday.  We try to get a walk in on Sunday and Monday not guaranteed but we do make an attempt.

I’ll try and take a photo this weekend and post soon.  On May 22nd I weight 289. Only 90 more to go until I hit my goal.  When I had surgery Monty weighted 504.  When he went for his consult he was 488.  So he lost a bit just eating the food I eat.  May 22nd he was 476.  Gosh I can’t believe how quick its coming off before surgery and he isn’t even trying.  I mean he is exercising but definitely not watching what he eats.  I’ll try to talk him into a photo this weekend also.  Hopefully this time I’ll be more diligent about taking them and posting.

WOW!

Mar 18, 2008

Wow! It has been a long time since I've posted.  Once again I do apologize.  So I hadn't weighted myself since the last time I've posted.  Kinda of scared of the scale.  I'm 297 and I'm 14 months post op.  Thats a total weight loss of 193lbs.  Tons more to go, my goal is 199.

BIG NEWS!  Monty has decided to have surgery also!  Yippie.  He is currently 485.  Which isn't bad considering when I first went in he was over 500 so some of my life changes have rubbed off on him. I'm so happy for him I think he is definately making a great decision and will enjoy all the WOW moments.

I must admit that with this new position at work I haven't been to the gym in months.  I plan to get back to it.  Especially with him going through the process we now can work on this "Life Change" together!

Married life is going great.  I never would have imagined I wanted to ever get married.  I always looked at it as a piece of paper but I do believe we have grown closer. Besides being my best friend (instead of food) he's also my husband which is great.

I went to visit some old co-workers last week and they didn't even know it was me!  I hadn't seen them since surgery.  When I walked in they asked if they could help me, like I was a regular person.  When I said who I was they just stared and couldn't believe it.  Guess I do look a bit different without two other people attached to me.  I'll try to update photos soon, can't promise anything lifes busy. Hope is well with ya'll.

Update

Sep 26, 2007

I do apologize for not updating on a regular basis. I guess you could say this is the summer of life changes. June 25th we moved out of our apartment unexpectedly and are now living on the third floor of a multi my family owns. August 3rd I started a new position at work. I absolutely love it. Sept. 1st Monty and I got married. Sept 4th started back to school again. As you can see this has definitely been a busy unexpected summer.

Weight loss is going okay. With everything going on I really haven’t had the time to do a regular work out routine. I am so hoping to start back next week. Its tough my normal trainer has moved out of state and I am stuck with people who do not motivate me as well. I need to bite the bullet and just find the time to go because I really enjoy it but it seems that the days I can go the trainer that is available doesn’t really want you to work out or get any exercise he keeps stopping me and saying he doesn’t want me to do to much when I was with the female we were doing a heck of a lot more things than he is allowing. I’m frustrated! My trainer on Wednesdays is great but that day of the week is tough because the first and second Wednesday of the month I have department meetings and I often don’t get out of here until after five and the gym closes at 6.

I weighed myself today. 328. That’s 162 lbs lost thus far. October 1st will be the anniversary of me starting my life change. I didn’t have surgery until January but Monty and I had started trying to get healthy on that day. He has fallen off the wagon a bit but has promised to start again on October first.

370 lbs

Jun 04, 2007

I lost thirteen pounds in the last month. I weighted myself May 30th and I have gone down to 370 now. I've been trying my best to keep physically active and work out as much as possible. I really want to take advantage of this "easy" loosing time. From what I hear the more you loose in the beginning the easier it is once your 12-18 months out.

3 Months Post OP

May 08, 2007

Okay, so I had my three month post op appointment April 26th. Blood work and weight loss are excellent. My weight was 383. Thats a total of 107lbs. lost since Oct. 1. Everything is the same ole thing. One good thing after ten years I can finally wear a seat belt comfortably. Nothing fits. Had to break down and buy new under clothes you can only go so long before they are down to your ankles after two steps.

Only 7lbs in 18 days!

Apr 16, 2007

Not to happy today went and weighted myself I'm only 390 it has been 18 days since I weight myself and I have only lost 7 lbs. I have been working my buns off and thats all I get! Well what I am being told is that muscle weights more than fat so even if I'm lossing fat I can be gaining muscle. I also can be losing inches. I can say that I comfortably fit into a 56 pant now. Which I could do a couple of weeks ago. Also I have increased the amount of weights I have been lifting and increased my walking on the weekends. So lets hope that this all justifies why I only lost 7lbs in 18 days. Note to self its only a number it doesnt measure your worth!

Update

Apr 02, 2007

So I weight myself March 29th and I have officially left the 4 hundred's. I weigh 397, Only seven more pounds and I have lost 100 lbs. I began weighing myself October 1st and I was 490. So it will be 100 lbs in six months. I went into surgery at 457 lbs. Things are going well. Monty has started a new job so our schedules have been crazy lately. I have tried to eat as healthy as possilbe during  this. You dont realize how much you depend on a person until their gone. He was always home so dinner was ready when I got home from work and my lunch was ready in the morning. Well those fairy tales days have past and now I gotta really stick to keeping everything healthy and planning my meals for the day. I have been hitting the fitness center twice a week. I absolutely love it! I also have been walking on friday, saturday, sunday, and monday. This weekend I was able to walk one full mile and not even be out of breathe. Its was nice I brought my little cousin Tylor (age: 7) with me. He rode his bike while I walked the track. It was a perfect weekend to be outdoors.

Update

Mar 27, 2007

March 9, 2007 407 lbs
March 21, 2007 402 lbs

Only twelve more to go and I hit 100 lb weight loss. Can't wait. I originally wore a mens size 66 pant I can comfortably get into a 58. I can zip the 56's but a bit snug by time I hit 390 (100 lb weight loss) then I think the 56's will fit nicely.

Everything else in this old hum drum life is going well. Hitting the gym a couple days a week. Trying to eat healthy. Keeping up the vitamins, water and protein. School and work are busy busy.
