My name is Tasha and I just turned 28. I am a full time college student at IUPUC and also a full time employee with Indiana Mentor. I am currently working on getting my degree in Psychology and am looking forward to getting my Masters in the future. I was fed up with being extremely obese years ago and decided that I wanted the Gastric Bypass surgery. I, however did not want to pay for my works expensive insurance. I struggled with trying to loose the weight on my own and was unsuccessful. This past Christmas as I looked around at my family I decided that I was tired of being the one sticking out in the crowd and tired of the worry of if I would fit in a desk at school or not. I took the insurance this January of 2008 and went to a information session and support group. I signed up right then and there to see Dr. Lee. It seems like it only took a second for me to be approved and surgery was scheduled for May 1st. I had to wait for school to be out for the summer so that is why I had to wait until May 1st. I lost about 17 pounds before the surgery on my own to try to make it easier on myself and Dr. Lee. My weight before the surgery was about 405 pounds. I went in on the first of May and had my life altering surgery and will never look back........My first follow up visit was on May 20th, when I stepped on the scales it read 375, I was so excited to see that I had dropped 30 pounds already. As each pound falls off I find a new courage and confidence inside myself that I have been keeping bottled up behind the big girl in the mirror......I am ready to break out of my shell and enjoy life more!!!!
