Surprise weigh-in with surprising results!
Jul 19, 2011
I have been having a lot of joint pain the last few days so I called the doc at the surgeon's office. He wanted me to come in today to check it out. He gave me a prescription for a high-dose Ibuprofen and sent me on my way. As with any doctor's appointments, there was a weigh-in. At my July 1 weigh-in I had lost a total of 15 of my required 20 pounds. Today my total weight loss was 23 pounds! Holy Cow!!! That is 8 pounds in 2.5 weeks! Now I just have to maintain that and I am good to go! I have my last dietitian appointment on August 1 then it is all up to the insurance people! We are getting sooooo close!

Shopaholic!

I have been starting to stress out a lot about the surgery and what my future holds. As always, retail therapy works wonders! Yesterday I went on Amazon and bought two books:
Fat Chances by Erin Shaw (a memoir of her experiences with obesity and weight loss surgery) and
Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery by Patt Levine (a cookbook). I am excited to get both but more so about the memoir. I am interested in how others have handled everything that goes on with being obese and having surgery. I also went out and bought a book today called
The Everything Post Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook by Jennifer Whitlock Heisler. It has a lot of amazing information about the whole surgery process, not just recipes. I have started researching and/or buying some of the many, many, many things I will need for the days, weeks, and months post-op. Who knew there was so much to get?

Here we go...

I have been big my whole life but I got really big in High School, College, and beyond. I topped out at 386 pounds at the beginning of this year. I finally decided enough was enough and started looking in to having Lap Band Surgery. I met with the awesome Dr. Ben-Meir at St. Vincent here in Cleveland and he nixed the Band idea! After some discussion and careful consideration, my mom and I decided that the Gastric Bypass would be a much better option for me. I am now working through the insurance process and hope to have my surgery on September 19, 2011. I am on my last month of supervised diet and have lost 21 pounds of the 20 I needed to lose. I am getting excited , but oh so nervous! I need all the love and support I can get so please follow along with me and help me become the person that I want to be!
