Traci - I had reflux. Not as bad as your husband, but it got to the point that everything I ate bothered me. I was/am on Prevacid. Even with the Prevacid (prior to surgery) I was miserable. I'm 12 weeks out and I'm on a lower dose of Prevacid but haven't had reflux since the surgery (Thank God). I can even eat chili and it doesn't bother me. I wish your husband the best.

TRACI~~I had severe GERD and REFLUX and was on "the purple pill" for years (in fact, my insurance company tried to deny paying because they said that people are normally not on it that long) I have not had any problems with reflux since surgery (one year ago) and have not had to take any medication for it since then! The lower part of the stomach is the one that continues to produce the stomach acid and in an RNY, it's not connected to the new stomach. BEST WISHES FOR YOUR HUSBAND ON HIS JOURNEY

Hi, Traci: In my consultation with my surgeon, she said that with the RNY, since the top portion is used for the pouch, reflux and gerd are pretty much eliminated because stomach acid is produced in the lower part of the stomach. I definitely think that WLS would help your husband in this regard. Good Luck and God Bless!
