Hello everyone, my name is Valerie and I have been approved for my surgery. Right now it is scheduled for Feb. 2009. Seems so far away, but I am sure it will get here fast enough!
Now a little about me. I have been overweight alot of my childhood and all of my adult life. Even though I have been a fairly active person, I still love to eat. I guess you could call me an emotional eater...I eat when I am happy, sad, depressed, thrilled, you name the emotion, I can eat to it..lol. I have tried just about every diet known to man, within reason. And the ones that I have had the most success with have been the ones with the most restrictions. I need definite boundries. And let's face it, gastric bypass has solid boundries.
Since ballooning to 283 + lbs, I have not been able to do alot of the things I enjoy. It makes it hard to move around being that large and with arthritis in my knees. I can't enjoy simple thing like walking great distances because my knees start talking then my back joins in. Somethig I got into in 2005 is Geocaching. It is kind of like a treasure hunt using handheld GPS. There are a great many here in the Pensacola area (and especially fun ones on UWF walking trails). At first I was out every weekend hunting them down. This year I think I have found 2 (they were quick finds and not much walking). Isn't that sad, I base what I might do that day by how far I will have to walk. That is not to say I can't walk or have a difficult time working but at the end of the day, I am not walking as quickly.
And oh, to be able to go into any store and buy clothes......WOW, that would be nice! And less expensive. I am limited to a select few stores, and most of the clothes are not "me". Not many choices.
Okay, enough of the sad stories. Wah wah wah...lol Now is the time for me to look forward in my journey and see what can be and how great I am going to feel. I would say wish me luck but it will not be luck that is going to get me thru this but lots and lots of hard work from me and support from my family, friends, co-workers and the ladies from the OH message board. You ladies are my inspiration!
