Hi everyone, my name is Vickie, I'm 51 years old, married, and live in North Carolina.  I have two wonderful children who are all grown up and two precious grandchildren.  I never had a weight problem until after I gave birth to my children.  I couldn't lose my pregnancy weight and kept on gaining weight.  That was in my early twenties and for the next 30 years I became self-conscious, embarrassed, withdrawn, ashamed and basically just hated my life, while all along continuing to gain more and more weight.  The moment I woke up and decided to have the surgery (after thinking about it for a couple of years and always allowing my fear to stop me) was when the pain in my knees and ankles became almost unbearable and in one years time I went from being able to climb a flight of stairs (although out of breath when I reached the top) to barely being able to climb the three stairs on my front porch.  I wanted my life back!  I wanted to be able to climb stairs without pain!  I wanted to be able to sit on the floor and play with my grandchildren!  I wanted to be able to get down on my knees and plant flowers!  I wanted to feel good about myself again!  So I finally chose to forget the fear and do something about it.
The pre-reqs for the surgery were relatively simple, mainly because I am a diabetic and was on an extremely strong insulin, and had high blood pressure.  I had the RNY weight loss surgery on March 21, 2011.  Next week I will be 3 months post-op and have lost 55 pounds.
I am new to Obesityhelp.com and am still in the process of learning my way around the site.  With all that being said I'm looking for friends to help me through this new journey in my life that have experienced what I have and know what it feels like to be obese and want to get their life back.  I'm also hoping to be a friend to others and help them through their new journey of life.
