Mele Kalikimaka

Mele Kalikimaka is the thing to say,
On a bright Hawaiian Christmas Day,
That's the island greeting that we send to you
From the land where palm trees sway,
Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright,
The sun to shine by day and all the stars at night,
Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii's way
To say "Merry Christmas to you."

Well today I had my 8 week post op and doing just fine.  I’m now down to 251 that's amazing for me! That's a 35 lbs loss since the surgery alone.  The team at QCWMP was very impressed the way I look.  I brought them a holiday gift basket filled with all sorts of goodies we have here Nurse Linda said “so I see you can’t eat this stuff so you just had to bring it here ha?”  “I told her well someone has too eat for me!”  We just laughed and laughed.   Anyway’s they were all so happy.

The compliments I received from all my doctors were just so overwhelming in a very good way!  Dr. Murayama couldn’t stop smiling he said I’m doing a wonderful job and to keep it up.  I’m now walking over 4 miles a day during my lunch time little under an hour.  He just thinks this is incredible.  I’ve given him all my documents and some pictures of all my skin fold infections, sores and pains in my leg, back and knees.  I didn’t know what he meant by skin pinching, well once we started using business wear for work again dresses is what I tend to use and now I know what he meant it’s no fun.  I almost fell twice because my flab by my knees flaps over each other.   So he wants me to continue on documenting everything that goes on with my body.  I have no problem with it.

He also warned me not to be disappointed if I don’t lose too much weight as I’ve been doing because I may plato.  If I do plato he suspects I’ll be right around 195 or so, if I don’t plato I could maybe reach 175 possible as long as I follow their plan.  But hey just to be in the lower 200’s I’d be thrilled with that too but at least I know what I’m face with as the months goes by.

You know you can tell you have a fabulous doctor that’s when they tell you “you look fabulous” and mean it.  That really made my evening I gotta say Dr. Murayama truly is the best!

Well if I don’t write anything before Christmas.  I wish you all a Safe & Happy Holiday Season!

November 19th Back to work

Nov 21, 2007

Well back to work and as expected four weeks of reports that were supposed to be done while I was out was smiling at me when I came back.  Surprise and a little upset I was but I guess I should have known it was going to happen.  With only three working days I just knew I had to buckle down and get cracking.  So that I did, little did I know I would have a very busy schedule ahead of me.

My daughter rode her wave board Sunday evening and fell off hurting her elbow.  Not to concern at the time because she went right back on so kinda just watched it and ice packed it too!  Monday after work I immediately saw a swollen elbow on her.  Trying to avoid ER I’d asked her if it was sore to my surprise she said not really.  So okay I told her doctors tomorrow her face was so depressed.  I told her “sucks to be you”.  Well ended up taking a 4 hour vacation for her, took her to our PCP who sent us to x-rays and come back.  We where then sent to a bone specialist and hand an appointment at 2:30 we weren’t seen until 3:45.  That entire waited to find out she does have a crack in her elbow and needed to be casted.  Here’s the kicker this doctor didn’t have the proper tools for her to be cast.  I’d have to bring her back to town and have her cast be place on Wednesday just great I though the day before Thanksgiving, the traffic will be nuts.  Well today came around too quickly and received a call from Dr. Lee’s nurse saying Dr. Lee wants her to see a children’s orthopedic, latest would be at 1:45 all I could think of at this point  was why me.  Lucky for me all us managers could go home at noon today, awesome hopefully things will start falling in place.  Got to the appointment and although the elbow is cracked it’s cracked inside not too much concerns at this point, the biggest concern he was the swollen in her elbow.  So no cast just a sling for now in hopes the swelling goes down by Monday if not she’s going to have it cast.  I told my husband his taking her this time.  I’m just so beat now my day never ends till about 8:30 or so.

Now I have the in-laws are over spending the rest of the week with us.  Again I told my husband he needs to entertain them I’m going shopping Friday morning, then meeting with the ladies in the evening usually it’s for cocktails none for me this year.  I told them it’s all about the aqua this time around which is just fine with them just as long as I’m coming and we get to enjoy the UH game…. Yeah Go Bows!!!

As far as my food intake well I was doing fine up until this morning, for what ever reason’s I ate my yogurt  strawberry f/f which is what I always eat not to mention at times I could finish the whole 6 oz well at least an hour or so.  However this morning it didn’t agree with me after 2 baby spoons I threw it up so I waited a little while and was able to finish it later.  My papaya I had this after noon for snack didn’t do well either after one piece I had my husband pull over so I could relive the pressure.  My dinner I had a grilled chicken from MickieD’s without the wrap and sauce.  I must say I did well thank God!

Well I gave you an ear full so to all of you out their, I just want to wish you a safe and Happy Holiday Season!  For you turkey lovers happy Thanks Giving!

4th Week Post Op!

Nov 18, 2007

***October 14, 2007***

Today I went for my 4th week post op.  I must say despite me literally passing out in church I’m doing very well.  I’m down to 267 lbs now I just can’t believe it!!!  Dr. Ramsdell is very pleased with the outcome but I’ll have to increase my iron pill twice a day, she also got me started on B-12 so I had to pick those up this afternoon.

Dr. Inouye was very impress with me and the way I’ve been handling myself to push forward.  We were laughing because she seen that I had tucking in my jeans, so I told her I had all these jeans, dresses and blouses that I brought but could never fit them so I stuck them in the back of my closet but now I can start using them.  As far as my old ones well I still kept all my dresses, but got rid of the huge homemade jeans and oversized blouses because they kept falling off of me.  We couldn’t help it but laugh and laugh…

Dr. Murayama well my buddy!  He was amazingly empresses with my weight lost.  Given the fact I threw up a little and a little there was because I was becoming dehydrated, not enough liquids but since I increased my liquids to 68 oz – 88oz I’ve been feeling better.  As for pain in my stomach while cleaning the closet he said “not to worry I just pulled a muscle, it will be fine in a few days if not call and make an appointment to see him”.

Dr. Kawamura said I can continue on with my soft foods.  She lowered my proteins from 90 gms to 70 gms or better, but wants me to remain getting enough liquids more then 64oz a day.  I don’t have to see her until about 3 months from now “top shape!”  The sucky part is that I still can’t eat any red meat, nor can I have any garden salads unless it’s cooked where it’s wilted…  That’s okay I guess…

Other then that I’m feeling fine, start work on Monday the 19th and am so excited about the whole outcome!

Ahh What a Night!

Nov 02, 2007

Just when you thought things couldn’t be better.  It changes right before your eyes.  I felt awful after last night’s dinner.  My husband had made some pork tofu with watercress, which is very good!!!  Anyway’s I took some of the tofu and the watercress and ate just a few pieces.  Before I knew it I was running to the bathroom throwing it up, there went my proteins for dinner.  My husband felt so bad, I told him not to worry it was trial in error…  I guess even though he used Splenda with the combination of the shoyu that had an impact on my stomach didn’t agree on it.

So tonight I think I’ll try something else.

1st Post-Ops October 31, 2007

Hello All,

Well today I had my first post-ops since surgery and I’ve already lost 12 pounds.  I’ve been told I’ve done exceptionally well.  However I personally thought I should have lost a little more and was worried, but no they said normally a person would lose 2 pounds a week.  For me to eat and continue on losing that was awesome.  Dr. Murayama was amazed how much my stomach had gone down, and complemented me on much slack my jeans had now!  Dr. Inouye was too also amazed on how much weight I lost from the begging till now.  My dietitian Chelsie reviewed my homework and had gave me the go ahead to eat soft foods now.  Yippee!!! The sucky part of this all is I now have to reach 90 grams of proteins a day… We’ll see how this goes.

I’ll see them again in 2 weeks!

Let's pray for the best!

Feeling Good

Oct 26, 2007

***October 26***
Feeling Good!
Well it’s been nearly 2 weeks since the surgery still a little sore but  doing extremely well.  We left the hospital last week Thursday mid-morning and well my husband still nervous about my food intake and what to expect once we’re home.  Once we got home it was like bring a new born baby home for the first time.  Trying to eat or drink but only able to do it in 2 – 3 oz at a time was very hard.  So we decided for the next 24 hours I was going to have liquids only, broth, baby foods and jello along with the protein powder to make up the difference.  As far as my walking I should be doing at least 45 minutes a day of walking each day which could be done in increments.  That hasn’t been a problem considering I love to walk; we’ve been going to the shopping centers, Costco, Wal-Mart pushing in little over 2 hours a day of walking.

I started driving last Thursday and felt great!  I’ve been able to eat simple soft meals but no more than 3oz per meal I’ll have my protein shakes and any other liquid each day between meals.  It’s becoming easier as the day goes by.

My bandages are still on don’t know when it’s going to fall off, I would think soon because it’s itchy!

“Oh” I forgot to mention I got my first dumping! It wasn’t because I ate too much or anything like that.  I had 2oz of papaya and scrambled egg.  I ate the papaya of course with no problem, when I took my first bite to the eggs that did it.  So yep my first dumping was caused because my body rejected the eggs.  Other than that I doing well and getting read to huli out of here again.  lol…

Surgery Day

Oct 26, 2007

***October 15, 2007***
Surgery day!
The surgery was a success!  Dr. Murayama was there bright and early to check on me and again assured my husband and me that his was going take good care of me.  As I got into the surgery room you could see everything!  Dr. Murayama hadn’t recognized me because I didn’t have my glasses on.  All I remember was moving from the hospital bed to the operating bed, stuck out my arms and hearing my doctor say don’t worry I’ll take good care of you.  Next thing I knew I was sent to my room with all these nurses around me asking how the pain.

Let me tell you the pain was there all right! That little pain button (cocktail time) I called it couldn’t come fast enough for me.  Dr. Murayama came in to check up on me and later that evening.  Thank god he said just take it easy he didn’t want me to do any walking this evening.

The next morning I was up early getting ready for my walk, it felt good to be standing.  Still sore I didn’t want anymore pain medication in fear of being constipated.  By early afternoon I was had just a little cocktail time by the end of the evening all I wanted Tylenol for my headache.
