On November 3, 2003 my life changed forever. That is the day I had my gastric by-pass surgery. On that day I was weighing in at 245 pounds. I am 5'2" tall. Today I am a petite 130 pounds. It is still amazing how people call me little and tiny....I have never thought of myself as either of those things. I am a single mom of 2 teenage kids (daughter 16 and son 13). Because of them, I decided to do the surgery. I knew if I didn't do something eventually (and kept gaining weight) that I would not be around to see them grow up. Both of my parents died young (mom at 52 and dad at 60) and of heart attacks. I knew I had to take care of my body because I am at risk for heart disease. This surgery has changed my life. I am a much happier outgoing person. I am able to do things with my kids now that I couldn't do before (like riding our bikes on the Seawall or going swimming at Schlitterbahn and being able to walk around and not be out of breath). Sometimes I think I have more energy than my kids.
