January 2010

Jan 12, 2010

HI Guys, well last year was pretty rough for me. I am trying to come to terms with what has happened to my life. I am alone for teh first time in my entire adult life. Hubby and I were high school sweethearts , so I have always had him around!!
I am running the pool service & supply business while trying to work on my other business with my Mom. it seems to be doing OK, so there is light at the end of this particular tunnel.
I am so happy with My DS, I know that at least my obesity is one less thing to have to worry about right now.

My weight stays around the !40-145lbs mark. When I get to 145lbs then I cut down on the carbs for a week and I am back where i need to be. I would kind of like to see 138lbs again for the summer, so we'll see how that goes. Who would have thought that I would be picky about 6lbs!! LOL

I am vigilant about my protein, I ALWAYS get at least the 100g, often more.
I have been a bit lax about my supplements lately but Ihave had so much upheavl that this is unsurprising and I am not going to beat myself up over it and make it an issue.

Christmas 2009

Dec 12, 2009

Hi Guys, well, I would love to say that things are Ok for me - but things are pretty awful.
My husband died at home suddenly on 29th October and I came home from a business trip and found him. As you can imagine I am pretty distraught and bereft at the moment.
I am trying hard to get all my vitamins, protein etc but some days i forget. I am doing my best to run my husbands pool business and clear up all the legal fallout that was left by his passing while trying to deal with my grief .
As far as my Ds goes, my health is much improved. The only thing I have problems with is my iron. I am having Infusions once a week to bring them up. This is Ok and I usually have a little nap for the two hours courtesy of the Benadryl they give me at the same time as my iron!!
I am really hoping 2010 brings some peace and happiness as I try to learn to live with what has happened to my world in the last few months!!
I am eternally grateful for the friendship and support that comes from Ds family here at OH. Although we do not meet, some of my friends here have been so kind to me at this awful time.
I hope everyone has a great holiday with their loved one's and takes time to enjoy the smaller things during the holiday!
Blessings to you

Yorkie's update!!

Apr 28, 2009

Hi Everyone, well it is the end of april 2009, and things have been a bit of a rollercoaster for me. I am feeling so much better, (knock on wood) the nausea seems to have gone away for now, so i am eating better and have gained back some weight. I am 135lbs now , which makes me a size 4 or small in most stores and that is fine. Last Christmas I was so skinny Iwas down to a size 0, and I was like a skeleton with skin draped over!!
I am in the pattern of taking all my supplements without any problem. i have found the best way for me is to sit down once a month on the floor of my bedroom, have the TV on (usually watch Paula Deen) and put my vits in a little baggie for each day. This way, I take the baggie with me when i head out of the door,in the morning, and as long as they are gone before bed, I declare it a success!!
I eat pretty much most things without too much of a problem. I have been eating alot of carbs to gain back some weight, but I am sure that will have to stop somewhere down the line!! I will be just as happy eating the Ds way, low carb, high protein, high fat, with the addition of a few carby treats.
We are toying with the idea of getting another Yorkie girl, we already have 2 yorkie babies, R uby and Molly. I would love another one, but we are unsure if it would upset the other 2!! We'll just have to wait and see I guess.
I maybe opening a store with my Mom, selling home furnishings, accessories etc. My Mom has a business like this in the Uk and is going to expand to here in florida, so watch this space!!

December 2008

Dec 26, 2008

December 2008

HI Guys, well, here we are at Christmas again. This has been an interesting year. I had my Ds in Jan 08 in Spain with the lovely Dr Baltasar. I had complications from the outset, a sub phrenic abcess which had to be drained in the general hospital in Alcoy, plus a clot in my lung. Then in August of this year it turned out that I had a chronic slow leak from my sleeve which caused an abcess and I had to have surgery to clear it up. I then had to have another 2 week stay in hospital in the Uk to try and get to the bottom of where this leak is and how best to resolve it. I am still waiting to see if the leak has closed on it's own and if not, i will have to have revisional surgery with either Dr baltasar or Dr gagner in Miami. I guess at the moment I just have to wait and see. I am trying to stay positive at this point and focus on getting my protein and vitamins in and hope that everything else falls into place. I am still grateful for my new skinny body but I am hoping not to lose any more weight at this point and will be trying to get some Kreon pancreatic enzymes to help me absorb a bit more from my food and stop the weight loss.

here's to a healthy and happy 2009!!

June 6th 2008 - 60lbs down and counting!!

Jun 06, 2008

June 6th 2008 - what can I say ? the Ds has given me my life back. I no longer feel the overwhelming sensation of failure that I felt with my Lapband. I am still getting used to what I can eat etc, but I have lost over 60lbs and am very happy. I am pretty sensitive to carbs, in that they can really slow my weight loss down, but that is something I am prepared to live with. I would like to get down to about 140lbs, but i guess that will happen with time. I play tennis, go the gym, walk my dogs, sail on the lake, shop and play in the pool all in a size 6!! and I am no longer always worried about being the "fat girl" at the party!
For all the complications I had, I would still do this again.

surgery day

Feb 08, 2008

I had my surgery at 3pm on 22nd jan at the Clinica in Alcoy, Spain. DR Baltasar is a nice, caring and professional ma. I was however, terrified. I remember little after I came round except I had terrible pain in my back, but the staff gave me pain medds and I slept some. I was discharged to the hotel the next day. everything seemed to go Ok for a couple of days and then I started to get a fever, Dr B put this down to a seroma i had developed at one of the incision sites.
Nevertheless, things got worse over the next couple of days and I had to go back to hospital, where it turned out I had a lung that had filled up with fluid and an abcess on the inside, near a suture line. I had to stay in and have both a chest drain and a drain put into my stomach to drain the abcess. after a few days the chest drain came out and I was discharged from the hospital back to the hotel. i still have the drain in my abcess and have to travel home with it, as DR B thinks it will need to be flushed out for a couple of more weeks, before it can be removed. In the end, we had to stay an extra week in Spain, which took some rearranging, but we managed it. Now it is the night before we fly home to Florida and I'm so excited to be going home, to my own bed, my furbabies and my friends.

Had a Jolly Christmas

Dec 26, 2007

We went to tampa to stay with some friends for Christmas. It was lovely to be around people we know as it is our first Christmas living in the states and we were a bit homesick. I had lovely seabass on a bed of mushroom, onion and pancetta. It was glorious and I guess it would be pretty Ds friendly, lots of butter and protein!! Went for a swim and lounged around by the pool all day which was nice. Went to a fab restaurant in Clearwater, right on the Gulf on Chrsitmas eve and had a lovely time. Nice to get dressed up and be a bit of a girl!! pretty much live in Flip flops around here most of the time!! We had fresh sushi, made to order and then macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi with wasabi mashed potatoes. One of my friends had the snow crab and i had to taste that too!!
I am off to pompano beach on friday to see some friends and while we are there we will be stocking up at Bariatric eating on some post surgery pouch friendly protein (i've been sampling them as a pre op, although i know my tastes could change dramatically after!). getting it while we are there will save on the shipping costs!! Well only 27 days till my surgery, not that I'm counting you understand!!! LOL
I'm taking the laptop with me to Spain so I'll keep you all posted as to my progress!!

date for surgery

Dec 21, 2007

I just got an emailf rom Dr Baltasar to say that he can do my Ds on 22nd Jan at 3pm. I am so excited and scared all at the same time!! I have been sorting out flights and hotel accommodation for our trip to spain. I also have to sort out dog sitting for my 2 girls while we are away, that is a bit of a worry too!
I can't believe that this will actually happen now after so many false starts, but here goes!!!
I weigh 213 pounds this morning, and I would love to weigh 137-140, but we'll see what happens on that front. All I know is that I'm not going to be buying anymore new clothes now until after surgery!!
