Not sure what to say except that my story is not that much different from most that I have read. I am almost 42 years old and have been overweight most of my life and have a strong family history of obesity, also have PCOS - so I come by it honestly. I have tried every WL plan/drug/gimic out there.
In the past two years I have lost 80 lbs - went on a 6 month plateau and couldn't for the life of me lose a single pound. Found keeping it off was so difficult. I exercised and did my daily diary but still could not love another pound - despite the fact that I still had another 100 Lbs. to loose. In the end I gave up and gained back 60 lbs.
I was then to WMC at the Civic (Dr. Dent and his collegues) which was my saving grace because I learned that there were medical/genetic reasons why losing weight was so much more difficult for me. Although they strongly recommeded WLS - I declined figuring now that I know its not my fault I would now have the stamina to perserver. So even though it was the had way and offered as a second alternative I did the Optifast plan - I lost the 60 lbs that I gained but again hit the plateau. This time keeping on the plateau was harder because I injured my knee and could not work out like I use to.
So, after a year of struggling trying to do it MY WAY - I finally decided to listen the Dr's and reconsider WLS. Thank goodness that my Dr. went me to this website because I got most of the information I needed.
I looked into the Toronto clinics and even though their wait list have decreased considerably I am not willing to wait a year. Which surprised me as just a couple of months ago I was strongly apposed to WLS. But now that I have made up my mind I want it done and ASAP.
Have decided to have the RNY - did a lot of research and after discussing it with many people, Dr. Dent, my PCP and several friends who are Dr's (one who is a local surgeon) I have decided that this is the best fit for me. I am blessed to have so many people in my life who support me.
So I hope to fill out my OOC papers at my next appointment on Dec. 5th - I am sure with my comorbs and BMI I will have not problems. Its been a wild ride so far and am excited about this new life-journey.
