Oh my, my story.  That sounds deep doesn't it.  Well it's just not that unusual, in fact, I bet pretty much everyone here has a similar road they have traveled that led them to WLS.  Mine is no exception.  Years of struggle, yo-yo diets out the wazoo, throw three children into the mix and WAAALLAA, no metabolism to speak of and the #'s keep on coming.  Of course the hand to mouth reaction wasn't helping much either.  Years of abuse in the form of fad diets, exercise freak outs that lasted only weeks, then vomiting as weight control led to a sorry state of health.  At 36 I weighed a massive 260#'s and couldn't lose weight no matter what I did.  I even tried starvation to no avail.  Yeah, stupid, but desperation causes desperate actions.

January 2006 proved to be a year of change.  I decided that I had met my proverbial brick wall and was truely out of options.  It took forever to research Drs. and find out what would work for me.  I not only decided to re-vamp my digestive track, but my life as well.  I had been a stay at home Mom for 8 years running.  Prior to children I taught GED/ABE/ESL at the local community college.  After three kids, I realized I no longer wanted to teach, the idea of it seemed obsurd.  So, I took a good long look at my life, my body and decided the only way I would be happy was to turn my life up-side down and start all over.  I scrapped my BS in Education and decided to go into Nursing, I ditched the diets and decided to gain a 'tool' that would help me for life, not just a month!  IT was a really rough January!!  LOL!!  :haha:

I quit smoking in January after 20 years of smoking.  I quit the moment Kathy (our staff nurse at the center) told me I should.  I said ok, and that was all she wrote on that.  Kathy was delighted that I was doing as I was told!  :-)  I haven't touched a smoke since and am quite proud of myself for that.  Then again, when one remakes one's life, you might as well go ALL the way healthy if your going to go at all, right?  Either way Surgery was scheduled for June so that my children would be out of school, and my Mother who teaches would be able to care for them while I was in the hospital and recovering.  I spent the entire spring and early summer doing research, research and more research about the RNY Gastric Bypass.  Insurance was approved by April 06, and my RE-BIRTHDAY was June 5th, 2006.  That is the date my life changed forever.
