Question:
I

I'M TIRED OF ALL THE LARGE PILLS AND THE QUANTITY. I DO TAKE THEM ALL-BUT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE ARE SOME THAT ARE ON THE SMALLER SIDE AND NOT HAVE TO TAKE SO MANY. THANKS.    — JOANN S. (posted on September 18, 2002)

The good news is that you will eventually be able to swallow big pills without a problem. For that first few months, though, I would strongly suggest children's chewable vitamins and cutting large pills like calcium into several smaller pieces.

I haven't had much luck finding a smaller calcium pill but my sister told me about Target brand multi-vitamins and they are small and very easy to swallow.

You can get a carmel candy (SS) at walmart that is calcium. It is made by Spring Vally, the walmart brand. Hope this helps.

I drink my calcium and multivitamins in a liquid predigested form. No breakdown is required because the manufacturer has already done that for you. One dose= 2 oz. liquid. It's very simple and about 90% absorbable within 5 minutes compared to a tablet which is only 0-20% absorbable. My email address is: [email protected] You are welcome to contact me with any questions.

Hello ladies: first off, I am not post op, I am in the pre op stage, but I have been an advocate of nutrional suppliments for years and have used a variety of products over the years. I am going to continue that 'regime' for the rest of my life which will be post op, sometime in December. I would like to tell you about a vitamin company that I have been using that is head and shoulders above all the others. They are more expensive because of the fact that they are created in an absolutely new way that does not involve using chemical solvents (acetone) to extract the nutriets and excipients that we are seeking to injest by taking nutrients. I have found them here at my local health food store in a small town in Arizona. The company is called "NEW CHAPTER". The own their own farm in Costa Rica where they grow all the herbs and plants and extract the nutrients that the put into their vitamins. The difference when you take them is noticable in a very short time. The various choices of nutrients that I take with them are 'Womens Formula', I am pre menopausal so I take their hormone balancing formula and creme and my night sweats have diminshed greatly, I also take their arthritis formula called zyflamend, and night time zyflamend, I cannot say enough about them and I suggest them to anyone who is taking nutrients and concerned about the qaulity of what they are taking.

Regarding Calcium and the large, and largely indigestable, form ... I have been using Citracal Liquitab and love it. You get 30 effervescent tablets per bottle, 500 mg calcium citrate (which is supposed to be the 'good' kind), that you just drop in your water and drink away. Since they are a little bubbly, I shake my water several times to release the carbonation. Another trick is to shake, partially freeze, and shake again - really tasty and refreshing. Citrus (orange) flavor and contains a no calorie sweetner.

you will just have to keep looking for what works for you. Everyong has to find their own regimine that work. As far as the carmel candy chewables...don't do them, they are carbonate, and not the citrate that you need.

I have the things I take listed on my profile. I did also find a liquid calcium citrate that tastes pretty good (600 mg for 1 tbsp) in lemon custard flavor. I got it at vitamin world. They have other flavors, too. I don't know what you are exactly taking but I take calcium, b12, and BCP in the morning, a multi vit w/iron at noon, and another calcium in the afternoon or evening. It seems pretty manageable to me. I think it is because I am finally rid of those dadgum horsepill calciums! =)

My surgeon and my dietician both told me (repeatedly, because I repeatedly asked) that all I needed were two sugar-free Tums a day to get in what calcium I needed. They come in an orange cream flavor and I love'em, I can almost believe I am eating candy when I take them!
