Question:
Am I going to slow down?

I had RYN 7-5-2005 the 5th of January I"ll be 6 months out I started out at 303lbs I"ve lost 100lbs but I"ve seem to stop losing. It has been at least 3weeks since I"ve lost any more weight .Do you think I will start to lose again or did it come off to quick ? Does that even matter how quick it comes off? I have about 80lbs to go . Do you think it will happen? getting a little nervous thanks for your thoughts.    — amygirl (posted on December 21, 2005)

I had RNY 06/02/05 and just celebrated 6 months out. Currently, I've lost 118 lbs. and I had stopped losing after 100 lbs. but I started losing again. I think our bodies just need to play catch-up sometimes before starting to shed weight again. I had a 2 or 3 week period that I didn't lose anything and gained 5 lbs. one week. I had to take into account that I'm working out with weights and muscle weighs more than fat and I'm going to fluctuate sometimes. I'm not gonna lie and say it's not frustrating because it is but, I feel I can't complain. I started out a size 32/34 and now I'm in a 18/20 and just loving life. Keep moving and eating right and I think you'll be fine. Hope this helps... Love & Blessings, Mattie

I have not had my surgery. But I were told you're at a pleatau in your weight loss. And you could say there for months, but I hope not.

Don't worry you will be fine, you have just reached a plateau..Keep up the protein, water and maybe step up your exercise and in a short time you will be back to losing again!! Enjoy the weight loss process, it is such a wonderful time!!!!!

If you read my profile, you will see that I have gone through many stalls/plateaus...this I have found to be a very "normal" part of the gastric-bypass-weight-loss-process. Each of us are unique and different and our bodies will lose the same way...UNIQUELY!!! But don't fear...you will lose. As long as you follow your surgeons suggestions and "rules-of-the-pouch", you have nothing to worry about. It can be frustrating...I know...I was there too. But I have gone from a weight of 408 pounds down to 229 for a loss of 178 pounds in just 13 short months. Take the stall/plateau times to rediscover why you had the surgery and to reflect on all the amazing things you have experienced thusfar since you had surgery. When you are a year out from surgery you will continue to be amazed. Every day is a new awesome experience, so enjoy the journey! Good luck for the upcoming year and towards a new happier healthier "YOU"!!!! Hugs, Audrey

Hey Amy I'm a year out and weighed the same you did when I started. I lost 100 pounds and have been stuck there for 5 months. I lost quick then just stopped. I'd like to lose 25 to 30 more. More than that and I'd look unhealthy. If you want to contact me maybe we can keep tabs on each other. Good luck.

Amy -- don't worry, you are okay and you will start to lose again. You're not going to lose 303 lbs in 6 months --you doing good. My partner's weight loss stalls from time to time -- be not discouraged -- keep doing whatever you are doing and it will start to drop off again. Nothing is wrong.

Amy, I haven't had my surgery yet...I am scheduled for Feb. 2nd, but during our pre-opp education classes, they explained that this would happen as your body catches up to all the weight you have lost. They told us that when this happens that we need to really make sure we are gtting in all of our liquids, all of our exercise, and really go back to measuring everything. And like Audrey said, to go back and remind yourself of all your goals and why you had this surgery done in the first place. Don't get frustrated, and don't get bummed out! Just tighted up your boots and keep pressing on...you'll get there! Sandra

Wow, you lost a lot already! You probably are just at a plateau. Keep up your protein, vitamins, and water and exercise, and you will probably start to lose again.

Hi don't be worried it will start back again. Our bodies have been thru this great shock and healing takes time. I have had plateaus to last for 1 or 2 months. I get discouraged but I have also eaten things that I shouldn't have and I don't exercise as much as I should. Also stress seems to slow things down to or it has to me. When I get really stressed out I will gain 5 to 7 lbs but it comes right back off. sometimes we have to go back to the basics too. That kinda jumpstarts it again I guess. I'm no doctor or nothin but this has been my experience. E-mail me anytime that you want to talk. Judy
