Question:
How long does light-headedness last?

I am 5 weeks post-op, and understand that my body needs to get used to the new eating and all the changes and healing. But how long can I expect the light-headedness and dizzy spells to last? I eat often and am having no problems with any specific foods. I drink all the time. But especially now that I am back at work, I can't just laydown for a few minutes when I get to feeling this way like I did before I returned to work. I know this should clear up, but when???    — tonyapf (posted on July 8, 2003)

I think this is probably something to check into further. You may be low in something, like B12 perhaps - or maybe you're anemic. I would contact your doc to get some tests done to see what the source of this is. I don't think you should be feeling this way at 5 weeks if you are eating carefully.

I am 8 weeks out, and have never felt lightheaded. Are you sure you are getting in enought water? It sounds like you are dehydrated. Also, make sure you get up slowly, it gives your blood pressure time to adjust.

There are many things that can cause the light-headedness. It could be lack of water, not eating enough, blood pressure dropping, low blood sugar. Many many things it could be. Best thing to do is check with your surgeon.

I am six months postop and I am having light-headeness all of the time. I had a follow-up appointment with my surgeon this past Monday and he told me that it could be from dehydration. Although, I drink more than enough of the required amount of water per day. I am on a blood pressure medication, so I think that my blood pressure is dropping and is stablizing and the medication makes it drop even lower on the days that I have dizziness. If you are that worried about it, make an appointment with your doctor. I did. Hopefully, I will be off of this blood pressure medicine soon! Good luck to you in your journey! Over two years post op and still suffer from it. Thankfully not as often, but I still come close to feeling as if I'm going to pass out when I stand up. Yeah, all my blood work is good, although my blood pressure usually is low.
