Question:
Only two weeks out not losing what do I do?

I thought the first couple weeks I would lose easily. I am getting in 64 plus ounces a day, I am eating 1/4-1/2 cup three times a day I am still on full liquid. I walked 3/4mile yesterday what else can I do to start getting this weight off?? Please help me!! Lost 13 pounds in first 9 days.    — Alicia K. (posted on November 26, 2002)

Alicia, be patient. I was just like you/I actually GAINED 9 lbs after I came home from hospital/ The Dr. assured me that it was fluid they pumped in me during surgery/ (I had lap surgery)/ But still, it was discouraging/ But at 2 1/2 mos. I had only lost 24 lbs. I was so discouraged, and then at about 3 mos. IT FINALLY STARTED TO COME OFF! You know, sometimes our bodies like to hold on to this fat, I mean, after all, that's how we got to this surgery point isn't it? Our bodies just want to hang on to the fat, but if you just hang in there it will start to come off/ The best advise I can give you is to quit weighing yourself for a while/ I mean wait about a month/ If you don't you will drive yourself crazy/ Just commit to waiting about a month before you weigh and when you can begin to tell it in your clothes, then get on the scales, and you will be thrilled/ I know from whence I speak because I was just like you/ But now I am proud to say I have reached my goal and am starting to think about plastic surgery/ Just keep telling yourself, this is not a race, it's a lifetime thing/ The weight will come off/ Patti Meadows

the only thing that you need to do differently is to THROW AWAY YOUR SCALE. ONLY WEIGH AT YOUR DOCTORS OFFICE!!! You have to do that for your sanity. If you do not, you will drive yourself nuts. You are eating, exerciseing and getting your water in, now your body will dothe rest. Good Luck, you are doing great.

Hello..I'm the queen (one of many) of the slow losers, welcome to my kingdom! Take care not to look at scales more than once a week, keep you exercise up, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, watch that fluid intake (64 or MORE is our motto here), BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, eat small portion and chew well, keep up on your protein...and soon......(though sometimes it seems like it takes FOREVER (I know, remember: I'm the queen)............it'll begin to happen. Did I mention BELIEVE IN YOURSELF? :-) Take care. I'm right there with you.

Hi, I am four weeks out and lost 18 lbs in the hospital in two days and then lost only THREE pounds in the next 3 1/2 weeks. I was so depressed. I was four weeks out yesterday and finally the scale moved. I lost a pound yesterday and two today. My secret.... I increased my calories. I wasn't even getting in 600 calories. Which put my body into starvation mode.. kinda like shock. I increased my calories and I am losing now. Don't give up. It will come off, but you have to give your body energy to burn... Try to eat six small meals through the day and water water water. :)

Alicia, I'm confused by your question. You say you're not losing, but then you say you lost 13 pounds in the first 9 days. Honey, that's losing! Lots of us GAIN weight while in the hospital and it takes a while to lose that first. The worst thing you can do is to obsess over comparing your numbers with other people. I had that problem too, and still do feel like a slow loser but I've finally learned to relax a bit and recognize that I AM losing steadily and that it's not going to stop anytime soon. You also could be losing inches more than pounds. If you're gaining muscle through exercise, muscle weighs more than fat, so it's important to gauge your weight loss through your measurements, the way you look and the way you feel and not just by the scale. It's typical in the beginning to worry that this isn't going to work for you, but trust me, it will!

It sounds like you are doing great! You have lost 9lbs in only two weeks! That is awsome. Try not to worry, I was like you, I lost for the first 2 weeks, and then NOTHING for the next three, finally after 5 weeks, I lost 11lbs in one week! (then I gained 1 lbs the next week) Your body is going thru a lot of changes. One thing I did, is I took my scale back to the store, it was driving me CRAZY!! Now I weigh once a week, and I'm so much happier!! Good luck
