Question:
I am 8 weeks post op and think I am the slowest loser EVER? Why?

Hi, I am 8 weeks post op and have lost 33 pounds. I know it isn't good to compare, but I have not seen anyone even close to losing this slow. Will I ever lose my weight? I also never really feel full and feel like my pouch was not made small enough. I have NO PROBLEM eating a whole Lean Cuisine and I am not even full. I stop there because I am trying really hard. I have never been sick or thrown-up. I can tolerate anything I eat. (but I have not had ANY sugar) I know it's crazy but, is it possible they didn't really even do the surgery?????    — Kristi A. You are not the slowest loser out there. Like you, I was considered a lightweight and at 2 weeks I had lost 21 pounds, at 6 weeks, I had lost 28 pounds. Now at 13 weeks, I have lost 47 pounds. It is a little slower for us, but my surgeon assures me (as I imagine yours does) that I am actually ahead of schedule. I find myself getting very frustrated but I know it doesn't help. It will come off as long as we follow the plan. I don't know how fast you are eating, but you might need to slow down a little and give your stomach a little time to send the "full" signal to the brain. Also, depending on what Lean Cuisine you are eating, they could be a thin consistancy that is basically running through the pouch and not filling it up and they can also be high in carbs. Try eating some chicken or turkey (weigh out about 3 oz) and see how much of that you can eat. It is much denser and usually fills me up quickly. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions. Good Luck.

OMG! I was going to post nearly this EXACT message today! I am 8 weeks post op and have lost 31 pounds. I ate a Lean Cuisine yesterday that was nearly 10 ounces and wasn't full and I don't dump. I've been trying to be good about my choices (my surgeon is very strict diet-wise)and I'm ok with the protein and so-so with the water intake. I am thoroughly disappointed by this whole event. I wanted to lose more. I wanted to eventually eat "normally" - which my dr. swore I would but obviously that's not true. I am regretting this surgery in a big way. I am taking some comfort in the fact that someone else has had these same problems. I hope it starts going better for us. Good luck!

What quantity of food does your plan call for at this point? A whole Lean Cuisine seems like it would be a lot more than would be on your plan. Plus it is loaded with lots of carbs. Try and eat that same amount in structly good high quality protein and see if you can do it. I sincerely doubt you can. Focus on the proteins and limit the carbs very low, including veggies and fruits as they are carbs too. See how that goes. Also make sure to get in some exercise too. <p>If this continues make sure to discuss with your surgeon. Do you know what size pouch you were given and what size your stoma is? This might give you a clue as to why things are like they are. You might be one of the people who has a larger pouch. Some people do not get full signals and therefore you must measure your food to the proper quantity you should be eating at this stage. You need to learn what a correct portion size is through seeing rather than your pouch telling you. I know a few people like this and they say they are satisfied but do not get a full signal. Good Luck!

Ditto on the SLOW LOSER! Ditto on the REGRETS!!! I look a little smaller and I feel a little smaller and my blood pressure is down. That is about it! When I went to have this surgery I wanted RESULTS! I feel like if you take the drastic step of surgery you DESERVE RESULTS. I am following all the rules and not losing. It is amazing that your body would hold onto the weight like this and you are eating next to nothing. Absolutely amazing! I guess it will get better. I too can eat more than I think I should, but I stop because I am trying. I too can tolerate quite a wide variety of foods. I know they did some re-arranging inside of me but I just feel like sometimes my surgeon did not do the "best" job for "me". Oh well, God be with us in our journey. I was talking to someone at work yesterday and he was saying he also knew someone who had the surgery that was DISGUSTED when it first happened... but later on down the line she began to lose the weight. Perhaps that will happen for us too! HUGZ!!!

You are just fine. At 8 weeks, I was down 30 pounds. Now at 12 months I am below my doctors goal. I never lost tons of weight each month, just a steady drops of 3-4 pounds a week. I never has any plateus either. 256/160/154

At 8 weeks I was down 32lbs - as you can see from the responses, you are not alone. It WILL come off. Tomorrow I go for my 5 month check up and the scale will show that I am down 75lbs. The last 2 months I averaged a loss of 8lbs a month. Hang in there, best wishes -

Thank you!!! I wanted to post this very question. I am about 7 weeks post-op (surgery 8-4-03) and I have lost 32 pounds. I eat 3 times a day, drink 80 to 100 ounces of water a day, exercise 4 to 5 days a week for 30 minutes. I feel great, but wish the weight loss was faster. Maybe the slower loss will help our skin return to normal. May God continue to bless our weight off.

The scale my say I have lost little but my body says just the opposite.I went from a 18/20 to a 14/16.I am going to be happy that I am healthy and can still eat just about anything.Debra

I was reading in your profile that you are 8 weeks out and have lost 33 pounds. I think that is great. At 8 weeks out I had lost 32 pounds and I know that, like you, I thought I was a slow loser too. My weight loss remained slow until past my 4th month. By my 4th month, I had lost 42 pounds. Now I am 7 months out and I have lost 100 pounds. I had a lot of plateaus early on as my body adjusted to the new life. I learned not to focus on the scale but instead to focus on making the positive lifestyle changes that I would need to sustain me the rest of my life. I also chose to focus on how I felt and how my clothes were fitting. Don't stress yourself out too much, trust the process and know that they weight will come off.

I am 11 weeks out. I have lost 40 pounds to date. I stated off at 275 and now I am 235. I started a regular workout regime about 3 weeks ago. I was averaging 2 to 3 pounds a week. In the past seven days I have lot 5 pounds. I think my workout has helped with my weightloss. I am also getting in more water.

That shoulds like alot of food. I'm almost 6 months post-op and only eating 3 ozs. of food per meal. There is no way I would even if I want to a whole TV dinner. Are you keeping a log on what you eat, when you eat, and what you eat? Are you drink your water (waiting 1 1/2 hours after you eat and 1/2 hour before? Are you exercising? Remember everyone is different.

A whole lean cuisine is NOT too much. Most average around 300 calories so that can easily fit into your daily total. I am 6 months post-op, lost 30 pounds the first month and only 40 since...having a higher starting weight some people have told me I should have lost more. Well that is more for me, more than I would have lost on my own. Just keep trying and stick with it and results will come. I too have had that "did I have surgery" thought, then I see this huge scar down me and think I had better had surgery!!!
