Question:
Can someone help me learn how to mix protein drinks?

Good Morning! Back in April I bought some protein samples while I was still preop. I haven't tried them yet. I had open rny on May 9 and have only been getting in at the most 30 grams of protein daily. I need some advice on how to mix them so they taste great and which ones are the best. Here is the very long list of samples that I purchased: Optimum Nutrition: Chocolate, Vanilla Extreme Body: Grape, Tropical Punch ProV60: Chocolate Thunder, Vanilla Cream Universal Whey Pro: Orange Creamsicle Designer Protein: French Vanilla, Vanilla Praline, Strawberry, Chocolate Proscore 100: Vanilla, Chocolate ProBlend 55: Alpine Vanilla, swiss chocolate, strawberry twist Thanks for your advice. I really, really appreciate it! Have a wonderful weekend!    — Mary B. (posted on July 30, 2001)

Mary - I mix my protein powder (1 scoop) w/5 oz. of water and ice, then whip the dickens out of it with my stick blender (WalMart $9.95). Recently, I have been opening and adding two of my calcium capsules to it. . .have been meaning to ask Michele Curren if this was a mistake or not. I use PermaLean Gourmet Protein Power -- Chocoholic Chocolate. 5 g. carb., 2.5 g. fructose, 20 g. protein, 105 cal. Tastes like watery chocolate milk if it is not aerated with the blender.

Mix with water or sugar free juices, like Crystal Light or s/f Tang, never with milk or real juice. Too much sugar. Blend or ice ice or add a fw banana slices (not a whole banana---too much volume, too much sugar)or a few berries, if you enjoy that. People also use s/f latte syrups to jazz up the vanillas. And you'd be surprised at how creative the MEN are. One guy's fave is choc & peach. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! That should be ILLEGAL! As for calcium in the shake. If it totals less than 500mg calcium citrate, sure. If the two together are more than 500mg, the 2nd one is wasted. 30g of protein at one time, 500mg of calcium citrate at one time. Tums or carbonate probably don't matter since they are pretty useless to any WLS person. But no, as far as I know, the calcium & protein do not compete for absorption. They're buddies.

Hi there! My protein drink is so simple - 2 cups of 1% milk, 1/2 cup nonfat dry milk and add flavoring. I use the NesQuick sugar free chocolate flavoring and it is wonderful. I drink it hot in the evenings. During the day I add some strawberries or 1/2 a banana. Very simple - very good. This is just protein, however. I also take two chewable chocolate calcium tablets, Viactiv each day as well. I realize that you have already purchased a bunch of stuff - but try this for taste.
