Question:
How many grams of protien digested per meal, and denature in heat?

I found a protien drink low carb and sugar, not too bad tasting. BUt I have hear theat we humans can only digest about 30 grams of protein at a time, or per intake. Does anyone have medical reference to this? I can easily drink with one scoop and then later in day have another. Just don't wanna be throwing money away by mixing up the protein and having it be wasted. It is also my understanding that protien powders denature in heat, and cannot be used to cook with.    — Jenny_B (posted on October 12, 2005)

You are right in not wanting to waste your money. You need 30 gms of protein per shake. You can only absorb 30 gms at one time and need a couple hours between shakes before you can absorb again. For the best tasting, low in sugar and carbs protein, try www. vitalady.com.. she has a great variety , and will sell you samples so you can be sure to purchase the protein that you love and will drink to be healthy. I think she requires a min purchase to buy samples.. something like $10-20 min purchase.. but it will be well worth the investment. Also, you can not make up protein and drink it later.. Protein starts breaking down after 30 min and will make you sick.. Take care Peachy hugs Gina L [email protected]

Well, heat does make protien coagulate, so it does ruin it. You cannot cook with it. As for not being able to process too much protien at a time, I have not found that to be true. It seems to be a myth that will not die. My dietician recommended that I drink Isopure protein, which gives me 60 grams of protein when made with one scoo[ of pwder and six ounces of Carb Countdown, a dairy beverage that has more protien and less sugar than skim milk. I drink one shake a day, usually. I can only tolerate the Dutch Chocolate flavor, though. My nails and hair are looking better than ever, although I still cannot eat much, so it must be working!

60 grams of protein are what is necessary after the surgery. It should be a goal not a must do. I have found a pudding that is very good and has 20grams per serving and 0 sugars. I find it delightful and without the aftertaste. It is put out by Sylvester Stallones company Intone. It is guilt free. I ordered it on line for $24.99 for 16 mixed flavored pudding cups. The lemon is to die for. I am still fresh from surgery so eating a whole 6 oz can is a bit much for me at one time but I usually get it in by lunch time. Good luck Vicki
