I had a Lap GNY WLS with Dr. Change on Oct. 7, 2004. In my experience he is a serious, caring and dedicated physician who talks "straigt" and has talented hands. I would recommend him to anyone as a fine surgeon who cares very much about his work. His P.A, nurses and office staff are helpful, kind and truly concerned about each patient. The surgeon and his team offer excellent after care and support. If you are looking for a doctor who will baby you this is not the man for you, but if you are as dedicated to changing your life style as this physician is to supporting real change in your life, you can make no better choice than Dr. Chang.

Dr. Chnag was an excellent doctor!!!

My impression of him became better as I got to know him.

His staff is also excellent, always helpful.

The only thing that bothered me was that before i had the surgery, he kept asking me how much i worked out, and i worked out for and hour 3 to 4 times a week, and he didnt seem to believe me, i guess he had alot of people lie to him about that.

Future patients should know that he means what he says, and you better not gain one pound before you have the surgery!

He told me about different meetings and I have regular appoints with him to make sure everything is ok.

I would rate Dr. Chang at a 10. Him and is staff are great.

I even had to call him after hours and the answering services answered and they said they would page him. He called me back in 2 minutes. I was very impressed.

I had my consultation with Dr. Chang this week. He didn't tell me everything that I wanted to hear, but I realize that he had my well-being in mind. He is all business and I understand quite serious. But I am told by people that know him well that as soon as your surgery is over he becomes a different person. I got very emotional in his office and he felt really bad about it
(It WASN'T his fault)

His office staff was very helpful and pleasant. His office is very pretty and comfortable. And Ron, the PA, "just can't be beat"

He emphasizes aftercare and the clinic has a MAJOR aftercare program. They say that you are their patient for LIFE. He addressed the risks of surgery by telling me that he would not do laproscopic on me until I lose 50lbs. And that the risks are too great for me to have an open procedure
(that's when I got emotional)

I would rate him an 81/2 only so he will have room to grow!!!

Dr. Chang did my surgery 10 months ago. I had to have both knees replaced and my orthopedist would not do it until I lost 50 lbs. He suggested I look into gastric bypass. I decided that was my only solution. I started researching. I eventually decided on Dr. Chang in Victoria. He was new to the area but I had heard only good about him plus a recommendation from the military was encouraging. My husband & I met with him and we both liked him. We were convinced he was very capable despite looking so young. He is very careful to explain the bad as well as the good. He is a strong advocate for aftercare and I felt safe with him. My gastric bypass went well and I had very little pain. He has managed to keep me motivated and on track. I am so happy with my decision to do this and with my choice of doctors. Dr. Chang, his staff and Citizens hospital are wonderful. I would recommend Dr. Chang to anyone. He really cares about you. Thank you Dr. Chang for making my quality of life so much better.

When I first met Dr. Chang, he was very serious and didn't sugar coat anything. He told me exactly what I had to do to be successful. He put a lot of emphasis on the importance of lifestyle change along with the surgery. Over time I learned that following his instructions would lead to greater success. As I've gotten to know him better, he's not always so serious, and smiles a lot more!! I actually enjoy visiting his office. Even though I know he's always busy, I never feel rushed, and he always takes time to answer my questions... even if they're silly. His office staff is wonderful. His nurse Jennifer, and Ron his PA always make me feel like family. I have never left his office without a smile on my face. Any future patients of Dr. Chang's should know that they are in great hands. He stresses the fact that surgery is just a tool, and diet and exercise are just as important. However, if you don't follow his instructions, he will voice his opinion. This was a little intimidating at first, but I now know that my success means as much to him as it does to me. Overall I would rate him a 10. He has always made me feel like I am the most important patient to him at that time. I even called him away from his office picnic when I had a problem, and he acted as if it was no big deal.

My first impression of Dr. Chang is that he wouldn't pull any punches, he would tell you exactly what was what. Over time I grew to have a lot of respect for him.

His office staff is absolutely amazing! They did all the work getting me approved and kept in touch with me all the way.

The main reason I chose Dr. Chang and Crossroads Surgical is the aftercare. I made a commitment to myself that I would go to Victoria and weigh in and get my B12 shot once a month for at least a year. There is even a monthly "Pouch Pals" meeting and weekly group sessions with a psychologist.

Dr. Chang was very straight forward and honest and wanted to be sure we (my husband and I0 understood all the risks involved.

If I had to do this all over again, I would not change a thing.

He is very serious and sometimes comes across as a rough, gruff person.

I met Dr. Chang on Wednesday, March 10, 2004. He was very thorough and very informative. It was a little scarier getting the information out of his mouth then reading it on the computer. He didn't say anything different, just stated the facts. He was more than patient with me and all my interuptions, giggles, and questions. I was very impressed by him and his entire staff. I must say my favorite was PA Ron. I loved him, he is a card! What a great place to go. If I would rate Dr. Chang on a scale between 1 to 10 then I would rate him a 91/2. Why not a 10? No one is perfect. Rating him a 10 would be setting him up. Would I trust my life in his hands? I am going to, so YES! Things that impressed me the most were; he is/was military or at least worked for DoD as a physician (why does this impress me? Because most are very structured and very disciplined in their field), a christian, and he did his residency in WLS.

Dr. Craig G. Chang (Victoria, TX)

My first impression of Dr. Chang was how young he is. He was very direct and informative which to me was reassuring. He did not sugar coat ANYTHING. He told me that he would like for me to lose 10-15 pounds but that he will do the surgery if I don't lose weight before... BUT he said he WILL NOT do the surgery if I gain between now and then. His staff is extremely friendly. Ann (who does the insurance) is very helpful and emails me when ever she needs anything from me. The thing I liked least about Dr. Chang is that he told me there is 1 in 200 people die from this surgery. (which is also what I liked best because he's honest ... It's really not HIS fault that the numbers are what they are) I thought that was extremely bad number and he seemed like it was acceptable. Dr. Chang and the other doctors in his office have two aftercare support groups. One is called "Pouch Pals" which is a monthly meeting where there are guest speakers on various topics, a time set aside for the doctors to speak and a time for someone to tell their story. Another aftercare program is a weekly group session with the counselor. Also the hospital has a TOP OF THE LINE exercise facility that is beautiful. They have several programs geared toward Bariatric patients. This doctor was very thorough in addressing the risks of surgery which I appreciated. I would rate him a 8 overall. I would like both a good bedside manner but with out surgical competence I could be dead so for me surgical competence FAR OUTWEIGHS bedside manner. I had VERY LITTLE pain after surgery, was given all precautions to prevent blood clots. So far, so good.

After dealing with Dr. Free's office in Corpus Christi and still not getting an appointment, I researched Oberisty.help list of Surgeons near Corpus. I chose Dr. McDaniel in Victoria. He could not do my surgery for several months (he only does 1 medicare patient a month) so I was referred to Dr. Chang who had recently joined his team. The entire team at Crossroads Surgical is outstanding. Dr. Chang is young, but very professional and thorough. Aftercare is very, very important. Crossroads Surgical is associated with Citizens Medical Center which has an Obesity Center.
I will be followed up after surgery once a month in the office and an very, very strongly encouraged to attend group sessions. --the ones I have attended are worth the trip to Victoria.

All risks were explained by the Dr Change and by his PA Ron Herrman. Overall I would rate him a 9.5. Only thing lacking is his bedside manner is somewhat stuffy, but the importand thing is his skill as a surgeon.

Dr. Chang was truly was a wonderful surgeon and I bonded with him immediately. He took a real interest in ME, as a person, not just a patient. He is also a Christian which was very important to me. He personally called me on the telephone after my surgery for some follow-up questions and when he left Louisiana, I cried. I'll never forget him and I feel so blessed to have had this surgery and especially to have had him as my surgeon!
