The first time I met Dr. Bell was in an information session with 20 other patients and their families. I was floored at his bed side manner. I have worked with doctors my whole career and I never met a surgeon who is so down to earth. As the months have gone by he has been at the support group meeting and very helpful to all his patients. His office staff has helped me greatly in any request/or problem I present to them. I have recommended Dr. Bell to our patients regularly. He saved my life. I was a type II diabetic uncontrolled on 4 different medicines. My doctor told me I was going to have to start insulin. That day I made the decision to have the surgery. I was also on meds for HTN and high cholesterol. I am no longer on any of my medications for these conditions. My labs are all normal. My doctor told me I am now a \"diet controlled diabetic\". Dr Bell my hero.

Had initial consult with Dr. Giles. Seems like a very nice guy. Seems to have a good grasp of things. Office staff is wonderful. Pre-op and Post-op preparation and care is highly emphasized. He seemed open and clear about the risks involved in this surgery. Had a difficult time with delays because of his introduction of VSG as an option. Because his office does not do VSG, I would have to wait 6 months for surgery. SO, I contacted Dr. Bell at Yale/NH hospital. Met with him on 5/5/08 and should have a date by 7/1/08. Dr. Bell seemed very knowledgeable and confident. He spent almost 2 hours with me. Looking forward to working with his office.

My first impression of Dr.Robert Bell was a caring man with a great sense of humor. I went to 4 different doctors before I went to him. What made him special was that I actually met him in person through the seminars to his office.I wanted a relationship with the doctor who was going to do my surgery. Not meet the doctor the day of the surgery.I was very pleased, I felt very comfortable and what made it even more comfortable was that one of his nurses at the office also had the surgery so talking to her was even better.Because she knew about surgery and she also experience it as well. His office staff are so sweet and very nice, very caring.I am please with my surgery.I haven't had any complications. I had my surgery June 13,2007 and I do not regret anything about the gastric by pass. When ever you need to ask any questions Dr.Bell and his staff are there to help you right away with any questions you may have.He is on point with his work.I have lost over 80 pounds and I feel great,I'm healthy.Im alive!!! I recommend this man/doctor to anyone that is looking for a bariatric surgery.

Dr Bell is wonderful-he is kind and caring. He makes you feel like you are his only patient and gives you all the time in the world. When I left my pre op appointment he made sure I had his email address-when I sent him a question he answered in a matter of hours. rnWhen he visited me in the hospital post op he pulled a chair up and sat down beside me for a visit-I felt like I was his only patient-he didn't act rushed or anything. He explained everything to me about what he did. He doesn't make you jump through hoops to have this surgery ordering all kinds of unneccessary tests-he orders pre op tests based on individual needs-not based on this is what we do regardless whether it is needed or not like several other programs in this state. His office staff is also top notch-very helpful and caring. On a scale of 1-10 I would rate him a 15-he is competent, kind, caring, and the ultimate professional.

I finally met Dr. Valin during my endoscopy and it was brief but I found him to be very nice. I had my pre op appointment with him and I like him very much, hes very friendly, hes well versed on who you are and I feel very confident in him and I am glad I chose him. rnrnUpdate: I do not support or endorse this surgeon anymore. While he did a good thing for me. He didnt for a family member. rnrnUpdate Again: I have chosen Dr. Bell from Yale to continue my follow up visits. He will be repairing my hernia soon. I have to say, hes a wonderful wonderful surgeon.

Pre-op:rn11/16/07 I attended a group information session and was very impressed with Dr. Bell and his staff. *After speaking with his staff for months via telephone, I had felt that they were always very busy, and would not see me or allow me to attend a group information session until I had completed their very long checklist of pre-qualifications, including nut, psych and other testing. I feel that this group information session would be extremely helpful for someone to decide if surgery is the way to go for them, before they spend all their money and time for testing. * this is more a reflection of Yale Hospital procedures than of my opinion of Dr. Bell and staff, but it was my first impression, and I'd like others to know. A nearby hospital holds a group info session first, than has people sign up if they are interested in more info. rnPost-op:rnMy respect and admiration for Dr. Bell has grown immensely with this experience. Not only is he extremely thorough and professional, he is also kind and compassionate, sharing bits of his personal life and experience along the way.

I have met my surgeon a few times now..he has been in attendance at every support group meeting I have been too at Yale which I find impressive. He is cordial and caring, upbeat and positive and has an avid following of patients past and present know fondly as his \"cult\"...I saw him recently for my pre-op visit and he alleviated my fears and when I left I was ready to go...rn
