Benotti Bariatrics Bariatric Center
Flashback to May 1, 2000, a May Day for life change from 355 to 205 through RNY surgery.rnrnAnd of Peter N. Benotti, MD:rnrnFirst impression: direct, no nonsense.rnLast impression: direct, no nonsense... §§§rnrnrnOffice staff worked well as a team. §§§ rnrnrnThere is nothing to not like about Dr. Benotti. §§§ rnrnrnThere are details and there are details. But I can never begin to imagine all the details facing Dr. Benotti. Details relating to matters of surgery, teaching of new surgeons, and being Chief of Surgery for a major NYC area hospital are just some. He has little patience for personal matters or even his patient's specific experiences that are not directly symptomatic of gastric bypass surgery. For instance, Spring allergies that may lead to much discomfort post surgery as a result of sneezing resulted in Dr. Benotti's statement: \"Allergies are not symptomatic of the surgery; delay the operation until September if you are concerned.\" Damn the allergies; full speed ahead... I kept the planned surgery date of May 2, 2000 and certainly did take Chlor-Trimeton Allergy 12-hour time release capsules morning and evening as the full effect of heatwave temps were experienced. Not one sneeze occurred (especially dangerous to the new environs of a stapled stomach) even though that allergy season is in the record books as one of the worst. §§§ rnrnrn\"The ball is in the patient's court.\" states Dr. Benotti upon completing the surgical procedure. The patient of Gastric Bypass surgery must always, always error on side of being too cautious. One wrong experience can blow out the entire stappling or damage it. So, be rigorous about actions regarding food intake. §§§ rnrnrnRisks of surgery as a percentage incidence of total similar surgeries and as compared to Dr. Benotti's surgeries were noted. §§§ rnrnrnA structured aftercare progam was in place, with meetings occurring on the first and third Mondays of each month. Attendance was encouraged but not specifically directed. The self-help group (MORE foundation) has since disbanded.§§§ rnrnrnSurgical competence is critical. But bedside manner cannot be under emphasized. It is bedside manner that most determines the consistency and attention to detail of nurses who carry out the Doctor's orders. As Chief of Surgery at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, Dr. Benotti is very fine in his bedside manner. And everyone acknowledges that his directions are carried out very carefully. §§§ rnrnrnFor anyone fortunate enough to meet Dr. Benotti and especially for those of us who have had surgery from him and received the benefit of his highly honed surgical skills and all the more that is required of one who is also teaching and managing as he was then, there can be no better experience. I am certain as I continue to follow the notes of current patients that Dr. Benotti continues to be the very best in beriatric surgery.
Dr Peter Benott in Danville PA at Geisingers Medical Center is a very strict Surgeon.. He is very tough.. One of the best Weight Loss surgeons around. His personality is not the best tho.. I am having surgery on 2/6 ane he has cancelled my lst surgery for 12/4 due to some health problems-especially anemia.. ABd he stil wants more infro from my prime doc about my health before he operates--but he did this time let me go to the pre-admissions education and testing--they took 9 tubes of blood out of me.. I have been thru the reemer with test after tests and blood work after blood work for the past yr.. I have diabetes and i am subjuset to cellulitis..rn iF I HAD TO CHOSE ANOTHER SURGEON I WOULD HAVE PICKED DR STRODEL--HE IS MORE POPULAR--BUT I CHOSE DR BENOTTI BECASUE HE IS HEAD OF SURGERY IN DANVIEE AND HE IS SUPPOSED TO HANDLE MOST OF THE HIGH RISK PATIENTS I WAS TOLD BY ANOTHER GEISINGER DOTOR--NOW I AM BEGINNING TO WONDER--HE IS JUST TOO FUSSY & I PRAY THAT ALL GOES WELL--,MY PRIME DOC IS DISCUSTED WITH HIM SAYING HE WANTS MORE RECORDS AND SHE SENDS THEM TO HIM AND HE SAYS THAT HE DOES NOT RECEIVE THEM..rn I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHAT I REALLY THINK OF HIM OVERALL AFTER MY SURGERY.. HE DID YELL AT ME ON MY FIRST VISIT AND I DID NOT APPRECIATE THAT! I THINK SURGICAL CONFIDENCE AND A GOOD BEDSIDE MANNER IS EXTREMEMLY IMPOORTANT..rn WELL IT HAS BEEN JUST 1 DAY PAST MY 2 WEEKS SINCE SURGERY-- I HAD A ROUGH TIME OF IT--BUT DR BENOTTI WAS EXCELLENT--I AM GLAD NOW THAT HE IS MY SURGEON--I GOT POISON IN MY BLOOD AND PNEUMONIA IN MY LEFT LUNG AND HE HANDLED EVERYTHING VERY EXCELLENTLY AND HE SHOWED A TENDER SIOE OF HIMSELF AS HE WAS REALLY WORRIED ABOUT ME AND I THANK MY GOD FOR HIM AND I MOSTLY THANK GOD FOR GETTING ME THRU THE HARD TIMES..rn I RECOMMEND DR BENOTTI TO ANYONE AND NOW I AM GLAD THAT HE WAS SUCH A STICKLER BEFORE MY SURGERY AND I UNDERSTAND WHY HE WANTED EVERYTHING TO BE AS WELL WITH ME AS IT COULD BE BEFORE THIS SURGERY--OTHERWISE I MIGHT HAVE DIED--HE IS A PERFECTIONIST AND THAT CAN BE A GOOD QUALITY!
My first consult with Dr. Benotti was 08/22/06,He was very informative and answered all my questions. I chose him on the basis of his experience and research. Very knowledgable on bariatric surgery. He seems to be very sensitive and compassionate. He is also very serious about what he does. My next appointment is 09/01/06 at 11:30 a.m.. Then , same day , pre-registration, pre-surgical studies,ie, labs, ekg, chest x-ray.Surgery date is 09/12/06 around 1 p.m., to be at hospital around 11 a.m.. I am confident I am in good hands with Dr. Benotti and his team. I will up-date as needed. Carolyn
I found Dr. Benotti to be very professional, competent and helpful. He took extremely good care of me during my hospital stay, in fact I saw him four times by the time I was discharged compared to my room mate who only saw hers once. Prior to surgery he answered all my questions and concerns during his pre-surgery seminar as well as my mom's who was very skeptical about the whole procedure. I would highly recommend Dr. Benotti not only because he is an extremely talented surgeon but because I found him to be caring and concerned for my well-being. I had been told that he lacked bedside manner but I found no evidence of that at any time, so I am glad that I went on my instincts rather than by what I heard. Thank you Dr. Benotti you gave me my life back. Please let your family know that I appreciate the fact that they share you with your patients, you are #1 on my list.... Also thank you Phyllis, Dr. Benotti's scheduler, I appreciate all you did for me and I am praying for you husband's health.
From the onset I was confortable with Dr. Benotti. He is a very warm friendly and caring doctor, that immediately sets you at ease with his knowlege of the proceedure. He took his time to answer any and all questions. I am so thrilled to have the program at Geisinger in Danville, without it , I would not have the amunition for success.
I thought Dr. Benotti was very nice and seemed to understand the problems of an obese person.
His staff is excellent and very helpful.
He is an excellent surgeon and explains things well.
I would highly recommend him to anyone wanting to have the open RNY surgery.
My personal experience with Dr. Benotti was excellent.
Dr.Benotti was my surgeon when having gastric bypass surgery. I liked Dr. Benotti from the moment I met him. I think he is very compasionate. Dr.Benotti was a wonderful surgeon. I have had no complications from the surgery.Dr.Benotti is well educated and very sensitive to problems that morb. obese people live with every day. Dr. Benotti's statistics were enough to put my mind at ease when considering different surgeons. Dr.Benotti had wonderful bedside manner and as I said earlier great surgical competence. I would rate Dr.Benotti a 10!!!!
Thorough asked many questions to see if I was a suitable candidate for surgery
Shortly after surgery he doubted if I would keep the weight off he was somewhat skeptical
Friendly and helpful
His skeptisim on weather I would keep the weight off after surgery
Dr. Benotti does not hold back his opinions he is very foward with his patients
Yes
Very foward in making you aware of the risks involved
Thorough
I feel that both competence and bedside manner are necessary
My first impression of Dr. Benotti was that he was very serious and I wasn't sure I felt all that comfortable with his "bedside" manner. What I was sure of was that he was an excellent surgeon and very knowledgeable in bariatric surgery, and he was the surgeon I wanted to do my surgery.
On my second visit to Dr. Benotti, I realized that although he is very serious, he has to be, because this is serious surgery. I had lost about 10 or so pounds, because I wanted to try to lose weight before the surgery and wanted him to know I was serious. When he had seen that I had lost some weight he said "You just made my day." He was so happy for me and re-inforced my decision to have him as my surgeon. In the hospital he takes charge, if someone doesn't get what he needs, he has no problem going and getting himself. His patients are of utmost importance to him. He visits his patients at least twice a day. Early in the morning and then again in the afternoon/evening. He is always
The office staff was excellent. My phone calls were always returned. It's been 2 1/2 years since my surgery and recently I had a problem with my shoulder. My orthopedic doctor wanted to put me on some medication I was not sure I could take. I called Dr. Benotti's office, he was in surgery, they said he would get back when he got out around Noon. My message was relayed to him immediately, because that same day around 12:15 Dr. Benotti called me back himself, and we had a conversation about what medication I could or could not take for my shoulder.
There is nothing I dislike about Dr. Benotti. If I had to make this decision again, I would choose him in a second.
Future patients should know that while he is quite serious, that's a good thing, because this is serious surgery, and he takes every aspect of this surgery seriously. Any surgery is risky, and even riskier with overweight patients.
He follows up with you. In my case, my regular doctor has been following up with blood tests, periodic visits, etc.
Dr. Benotti has group meetings twice a month.
Risks of surgery are addressed both in a group program and in person. You are made very aware of all risks.
On a scale of 1-10 I would rate Dr. Benotti a 10.
I believe both his surgical competence and bedside manner are great.
Dr. Benotti requires all potential patients attend an informational seminar prior to an office visit, as do all the other Bariatric surgeons in this area. His presentation was by far the most professional and most "medically based" of the 3 I attended...no sales pitches here! I have MANY co-morbitities, and needed to feel completely confident in the medical skills of the surgeon I would chose. Dr. Benotti's staff is remarkably helpful in setting up appointments and dealing with insurance issues, I never was made to feel I was bothering them (and believe me towards the end I had a lot of questions!)People intending to be patients of Dr. Benotti's need to know that he is a medical professional, and expects YOU to be an active, participating member of YOUR health care team. You will be responsible for making sure all the Pre-op testing results get to him, as well as scheduling those appointments. The pre-operative testing required was fairly extensive, and patients should be prepared for that. I feel I received the FINEST medical care available, anywhere! Dr. Benotti was at the hospital twice a day, in constant contact with my primary physician and my pulmonologist, and stayed on top of my medical needs as they occured. Phone calls are immediately returned and all questions are answered ...no matter how many times I asked the same ones!! Dr. Benotti's patients have a structured aftercare program/support group and several of his post-op patients came to visit me in the hospital to offer support and answer questions. Dr, Benotti attends the support group meetings and is available to answer questions as they arise. I am 18 months Post op, minus 143 lbs, feeling great and looking forward to my "healthy future!"
