Benotti Bariatrics Bariatric Center
Dr. Benotti's information has changed from what you have on the site.
His new office information is:
505 Goffle Road
Ridgewood, NJ 07450
201-447-8414
Dr. Benotti has been wonderful. He is a no nonsense kind of person, which I like, and does not "sell" the surgery when you meet with him for the consultation. He seemed to be waiting for me to say that it was what I wanted rather than indicating that I had to have it. However, he did say that it was his opinion that the only long term success I could hope for was through this surgery.
I am in a little bit of a bind however with the insurance arrangement. Dr. Benotti will b dropping Aetna (my insurer) as of March 14th, 2001. I have my surgery scheduled for 2/26/01, so I should be fine. My hospital wil remain in Aetna, so my stay in case of problems that would require me being there past March 14th would be covered. However, all follow up care would need to be submitted as out of network.
He said he did this because the fee that Aetna agrees to pay for the surgery is far lower than any other HMO, making it relatively unprofitable for him to perform it. Regardless, I will be staying with Dr. Benotti, as I am very comfortable with him and confident in his ability.
His office staff is also top notch, making the whole process very smooth.
Attended Dr. Benotti's orientation session as well
as support group meeting. A week later I had my
consultation session. So far, I only have very
positive things to say. Not only is he very well
respected in this field, but Dr. Benotti seems very
passionate about helping his patients find a
healthy and better life. He spent a lot of time
with me, was direct about issues & risks, but
made me feel that there really is hope. Couldn't ask
for more.
Update 9/29/00 - thanks to the professionalism, persistance, talent,
and caring of Sandy at Dr. B's office
I got my approval from Cigna after 7 weeks. We are blessed to have
people like her to help us in our journey to a better,
healthier life.
11/30/00: Having gone through the most important evaluation of
a surgeon -- the surgery itself -- I would recommend Dr. Benotti VERY highly.
By choosing him, you will have a surgeon who is extremely talented and has years
of experience in performing this procedure. Going into this surgery I felt a great deal of
trust with Dr. Benotti, and over the past month, this trust has been validated many times.
I wouldn't want to think of going through this procedure with anyone other than Dr. Benotti.
Fortunately, based on extensive research on my part, I didn't have to. Another bonus is the hospital
that Dr. Benotti is now affiliated with, The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ, is top notch facility.
Dr Benotti reminds me of another surgeon who was respected but dreaded by nurses at the hospital I worked at. For all they complained about him for being arrogant or demanding it was surprising how many went to that surgeon for their needs.
Dr Benotti is I believe a very caring man who is meticulous with his care as he should. Some would say he is no nonsense which may well be, however I believe he truly cares about his patients especially their progress for their sake, not just to improve his stats. I have seen him speak in public and I have seen his relationships with his post-op as well as pre-op pts he is honest and forthright. I highly recommend him if you are searching for a surgeon. If Sandy follows him to Ridgewood what a great office he will have she knows how to fight with the insurance companies.
My first impression of Dr. Benotti was how well he was informed on the plight of the obese patient. He zero'd right in on co-morbidities the effect time had on them. He may come off a bit abrupt at first, but as a surgeon and a scientist his focus is on the physical, not the emotional aspects of obesity. So to expect his office to be a place to pour out your heart would be an unrealistic expectation. If he senses you have issues that need to be addressed on an emotional level, he will refer you to a psychologist or counselor. He expects you to read and comprehend the all inclusive "WLS Bible" he hands out at his pre-op/ post op support group meetings. He also expects you to be the captain of your own ship and with his surgical expertise, he can help put you back in control, the catch is that afterward you must take the wheel and use his "surgical gift" to achieve your goals. As a surgeon he is a pioneer when it comes to employing the best techniques (tried and true) for the best results. The hospital staff is quite clear on Dr. B's instructions and if you are a patient of his, the staff carries out his orders the fullest extent possible. It became clear post op that he cares much more than you can glean from your first impression. He kept my family informed and twice a day, EVERY DAY, he visited me and progressed me through each stage of post op care. He goes out of his way to work with you and your insurance carrier to make the experience a complete medical success. He won't hold your hand, but he will inform and educate you, care for your medical needs and encourage you on each post op visit. I can't thank him enough for his impeccable attention to detail and research. Bravo, Dr. B!
I first encountered Peter Benotti at a new patient orientation and patient support meeting. Dr. Benotti gave a 30 min. slide presentation to intrested WLS candidates with a 30 min. Q&A. Followed by a support group meeting with post operative patients.
The new paitient orientation was a requirement prior to scheduling a consultation appointment with Dr. Benotti.
Dr. Benotti was extremly through, and candid regarding the risks and benefits of each type of surgery. Dr. Benotti performs both banded gastroplasty and gastric bypass. At the end of the meeting the staff introducted themselves and offered to show you before and after pictures of pre and post op patients, as well as sign you in and provide you with a comprehensive booklet on the surgery, diet, exercise etc. (the bible which you will refer to many times both pre and post op).
Dr. Peter Benotti is the epitome of a highly respected and more than competent surgeon.
Although Dr. Benotti does not present himself as a warm and fuzzy guy, by virture of his actions he is a compassionate doctor. If you are seeking a surgeon that will show outward emotions regarding your case or his patients you may be looking in the wrong place. I for one, wanted the highly skilled, Cheif of Surgery.
Dr. Benotti visited me twice a day in the hospital to check on my progress...this speaks volumes for both his commitment to the patient and his professionlisim.
Dr. Benotti provides his patients with support groups. Which meet the first of every month. He also requires your commitment to meet with a nutritionist both pre and post op. Dr. Benotti has made it very clear, that the surgery is only a tool, and it is entirly up to me to be succesful in my weight loss. To achevie my goals, I must follow both the diet, vitamin, and exersise programs he recommends.
Sandy Helm in Dr. Benotti's office was a pleasure to work with on obtaining insurance clearence. She was pro active in following up with my providers on a weekly basis. However, the office very much expects you to keep on top of your approval as well.
Anyone intrested in WLS should consider Dr. Peter M. Benotti, MD, FACS, Chief of Surgery Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, Clinical Professor of Surgery, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, NY.
Dr. Benotti will be relocating his program to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey in October of 2000.
Not Mr. Personality but very careing.
Very knowledgeable. He made me feel safe.
Very helpful and friendly.
Nothing yet.
He is very straight forward. He won't BS you.
Walk, Walk, Walk, Walk, Walk!
Yes, but I wish I could find a support group closer to where I live.
Yes, very much so.
So far, excellent.
I will let you know after surgery.
Dr. Benotti is businesslike, highly knowledgeable, not very warm, but compassionate and well aware of the physical and emotional plight of the morbidly obese. Busy and occasionally short tempered, more than once he told me he didin't have hours to discuss things with me. But he also said I could call him or make another appointment, if I really needed to discuss something at length. He said I was a very educated patient and posed very good questions, many he had no answers to. He was realistic, and made no promises, pulled no punches, covered the risks, etc. He wasn't "Mr. Personality" but I felt he was imminently competent. He has a fine reputation.
When I went to see him 3 weeks post op, he seemed condescending and disinterested in my concerns.
Office staff very friendly and efficient. Dr's assistant, and LPN named Dawn, was a doll, but left abruptly right after I had my surgery. The new nurse never said one word to me nor made eye contact with me.
There is a support group, Dr. Benotti attends, and when you first contact his office, they send you a VERY complete and comprehensive information booklet covering just about everything at every step of the process.
Over all, I'd rate him as "GOOD" but I'm disappointed in how he treated me at my last visit. I'm having some tests done and seeing my Endocrinologist(I'm hypothyroid), at Dr. Benotti's suggestion, to try and find out why I'm losing so little weight and feeling so lousy.
I would say surgical competence is his strong suit. Anyway, I hope so.
My first impression was concerned and caring. After speaking with severip post-op patients I understand he is so involved and thorough, takes his time. He is very experienced with open RNY - I understand he does not do Lap. Offers information session with interested "pre" patients with a nurse there as well. Aftercare and surgery as a "tool" for long term wellness are emphasized. He discussed the risks and effects frakly, nothing was ever glossed over. The staff I dealt with were Sandy, the assistant who handles insurance - excellent! and nurse Dawn, also excellent. Both are concerned about YOU and not too busy to take time out to discuss your needs.
At first my opinon of Dr.B was that he was a bit rude, and it seemed as though he was tired and he realy didn't want to talk much. But nevertheless he explained in detail how the Gastric Bypass procedure would be done and he also explained how my health would probaly procresively worsen as I got older. I had hypertension, sleep apnea, asthma, my knees hurt, short of breath and i was weighing 296 pounds (45yrs old). My impression of him quickly changed after my sugery he was there a soon as i opened my eyes. My family was kept well informed by him and the hosp staff. My hospital stay was made to be a realy good one I met wonderful caring people who were there not to baby me but to help me as i was starting the begining of a new life.
Future patients should know that Dr B. is a wonderfuly skilled doctor that know's his job.
I highly reccomend Dr.Peter Benotti my overall rating of him is Execelent!!
