Beth Israel Deconess Bariatric Center

He is a very compassionate and knowledgable man.rnThe office staff was wonderful - all very supportive.rnHe focuses alot on aftercare - and what your role is post-op to make this procedure successful, remember this is just a tool!rnHe was very open and informative about all the risks involved.rnHe has both surgical competence and wonderful bedside manner, I know I made the right decision with him.

I first met my surgeon during a Bariatric information session at the hospital. I liked his sense of humor and honesty regarding the surgery and risik factors. He was very interested in his patients, during the pre op visit he sensed my daughter had some concerns. He took the time to speak to her and answer her questions. I never had any doubts or fears regarding the surgery. He visited me daily in the hospital and told me not to let the interns push me out of the hospital to early. If I felt I needed another day I could stay. He told me to have them talk to him. He was caring and kind. I would highly recommend him for patients in the Boston Area.

My PCP referred me to Dr Schneider along with some people I know that has had surgery from him. As you will see that I also work in the same hospital as him so some people that works in the hospital referred him also. I went to the informational meetings with my best friend and we met 2 different DR and we both loved Dr Schneider. He has a boyish look about him but he is very knowligible and he has done hundreds if not thounsands of surgeries. I loved him when I went to see him for the first time and you can tell he really cares in what he does. I want to say that I had a cyst removed from my leg a week before my surgery from another Dr(OUTPATIENT) and I happened to see Dr Schneider's secretary and she asked me how was my appt. I was impressed because I did not call them yet and she stated we know everything. Dr Schneider then called me the Friday and for me to come right down because he wanted to look at my leg to make sure that I did not have an infection because he would have to cancel my surgery is so. I was again impress because he cares about the person. I LOVE everything about him. My hospital experience was great. I had my surgery at 7:30 am awakend at 10:30 in room by 1pm and when I saw my new nurse that came on at 3pm she came in my room around 330pm and say she will be getting me up to walk by 4-4:15 I was walking. The floor is a new floor that is for WLS they just got new beds for obese patients believe you me I saw the old one(big boy bed) and I was comfortable. Angie the nurse is a doll and she shares her experience she also had the LaP Band that helps to know she is where I am at.She comes out with the Drs the day after surgery and checks on you also. Dr Schneider's secretary Mary was very helpful and kind to me. My paper work was done in a very timely matter and my surgery and Pre-op appt with the anetheleologist was booked immediately after I saw dr Schneider. I was also to told Dr Shcneider bedside manners was the best and this is correct you cannot go wrong with him.

I like Dr. Schneider. I liked him at our first meeting. He's young and friendly and has a very easy going personality. We discussed both the pro's and con's of both the Lap band and the RNY. The Bariatric Team at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston is very well known. There is a very structured process to be approved for WLS. The hospital is in the process of creating a WLS post op ward of its own. It will have all of the necessary equipment to make very large people feel comfortable. In fact, the exam table in the room where the team mbrs meet with patients is about 2 feet wide and made to accomodate any size. Sincerely, through the entire approval process of meeting nurses, the internal physician, the psychologist, lab techs, etc. everyone has been helpful, honest and sincere in helping me come to an informed decision.

Initially I was interested in the lap band, and I chose a surgeon who is very experienced in both the lap band and the roux en y only on credentials. after I met with that surgeon, I felt he did things too quickly, and I changed my mind quickly! Dr. Ben Schneider was there, and I felt immediately that he was the right one to do my surgery. When I met with him in person, I was even more comfortable after speaking with him. very experienced and very steady. I was also told he was an ER surgeon/doctor prevously and could handle anything that could go wrong during surgery (not by him). He has been working with the director of the program doing surgery for seven years. Beth Isreal Deaconess Medical Center has a very structured aftercare program as far as keeping your appointments and doing labs, etc. I am also taking part in 2 studies that they are performing. Dr. Schneider was very honest with me about everything. I am very comfortable with him.

Very helpful, explained procedure and risks/benefits fully. Visited me in the hospital daily and answered questions, etc. Never felt time was limited or my concerns not important. I would recommend him without hesitation. Follow-up has just started...but I anticipate he will be just as thorough in this area as he was pre-op.
