I found Dr. Gladen to be friendly and very concerned about the importance of being healthy. He was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions without hesitation. He was very relaxed and informal, which made the consult comfortable for me. He looks at you not around you when talking. He is a well respected surgeon, who also teaches others how to perform the surgery. He is the only Dr. in California who will accept Medical patients, I personally am not on Medical but I think its great that he does this for medical patients. I think that says alot about his character as a person. He is also the head of the trauma center, he knows his stuff. He has perfromed over 1000 surgeries, he does not do Lap. It is still considered experimental so he doesnt want to chance it, until he has enough facts to support the findings of whether or not it works affectively. Which I find comforting, knowing that he values the lives of his patients more, and that he is not willing to do a surgery just because its the IN thing to do. He was very confident and friendly I had a great impression.

Had my surgery 4-27-01 everything went well he did agreat job not cutting me up. My incision is only 2 1/2 inches and has already healed in less than 2weeks. I lost 18# in the first 10 days I have already lost 15% of my body weight. yeahhhh Gladen was awesome and so were all of his assistants. I would recommend him anyday. Especially Scott who is a doll.

When I first meet him I felt at ease with him. However, he does have a lot of patients. So it was a bit rushed. But in talking to him, he seen very knowledgeable about the procedure. His staff, Scott his physician assistant is awesome and Olga she's a jewel. I feel that other patients seekings a doctor would get a very caring and understanding doctor. He definately discussed the risk of this surgery in the beginning. I only wish that he had more time to talk with his patients more. I'm not yet sure of his bedside manner but, I know he seens competence.

The surgeon seems nice, but very busy. I felt he was caring and dedicated. I've only met with him once and will not see him again until two days pre-op. The staff, however, have been very supportive and answered all my questions with patience. The only thing I disliked is how fast we were moved in and out of the office. I realize he's busy, but I don't decide to let someone cut into me everyday. Patients who see Dr. Gladen should know that he is the only surgeon in this area who treats "high-risk" patients. We have had very little discussion about aftercare, but her does keep you on liquids only for one month. Dr. Gladen presented us with materials regarding the risks and complications associated with the material. I find him a friendly, gentle doctor but would suggest that those who see him bring a list of questions they want answered so they don't get caught short.

My first meeting went really well with Dr. Gladen. He seems to really care about helping people like me. He never made me feel bad about myself in any way. He took time with me to hear all of my concerns and Question. He addressed each question straight on and honestly. He made me feel like I am going to be in good hands.

Dr. Gladen was warm and soft spoken. He reminded me of a warm cuddly bear.

I still feel that way after 7 months.

Very wonderful and helpful. Especially Louise

He is a very busy man, so I often see his P.A.
He is wonderful and you won't regret putting your life into his hands.
Main priority with him!

Yes, and encourages support groups.

Very open and realistic.

From 1-10....a 15!

Both are really important. That is what makes Dr. Gladen a wonderful physician.

Dr. Gladen seemed to be concerned with the overall health of those of us he met with. Five of us, all Kaiser patients, met with him 7/17/00 and we first saw a video of Dr. Gladen speaking about the procedure, risks, etc. He then met with the five of us and our guests, spouses or relatives, about some of our concerns. He then met with each one of us individually and we were able to ask our own questions to him. He seems to be a good man concerned with each one of us.
He answered everyone's questions frankly and honestly I thought. Good first impression.

My first impression of Dr. Gladen and his staff was how caring he seemed. He is the only Dr. in the San Joaquin valley approved to do this surgery for Medi-cal. He is also chief trauma surgeon for Valley Medical Center the top trauma hospital in the valley.
I assumed if I got into "trouble" during surgery he could best handle it. My impression has not changed for him or his staff since I applied and was approved for surgery. What I liked best was how his office staff had a special evening meeting for the next group of us approved for surgery. It made me feel very special he took time out of his personal time to meet with us. His aftercare is very structured and there is a support group for patients. also his aftercare is over period of two years. He completely went over the surgery and said his main objective was to make sure I had no questions. A++++++ rating in my book. Very caring man and took time to reassure me I would be ok. He also noted my first visit that I am a big baby when it comes to pain and I get nauseated after surgeries. He even said he's use the same scar as my 15year old gallbladder surgery and clean up some scar tissue
