I really like Dr Gladen, hes a very nice man and so is his assistant! He answered all my questions fully! He is very concerned about his patients, I was supposed to have had this surgery in july of this year but he refused to do it when he found out I hadn't quit smoking! Now that I am smoke free my surgery is coming up! The only bad experience was the clinic where I saw him. This place is huge and the waiting is horrible. I am over 500 pounds and it about killed me to walk it! My opinions are just my experience.

I found him to be very knowlegable about the surgery. He is always smiling and he has a sense of humor. I was very impressed with him. He treated me with respect and answered all questions that I had and explained things to me in detail. His office staff was always friendly and very helpful. As of yet I have not found anything that I dislike about him. The only negative thing is that he is a very busy man and I had to wait a long time to have the surgery. Although, that would not necessarily be the case for everyone, it depends on the insurance (mine is Kaiser). Aftercare is very important and he emphasizes it greatly and explains in detail what you need to do to help yourself recover and live with your new stomach. He told me all of the risks in detail. I would rate him on a scale of 1 - 10 a 10. His surgical competence and his bedside manner are both great.

Dr. Gladen and his staff are just awesome. The least that I liked about this visit was that I felt rushed (it was a realy busy day for my first consult). You get to watch a video before you see him. He explains everything so thorough. But again, my first visit was rushed, so I forgot to ask a few things. Overall, I believe that I'm in good hands.

He is the most patient, kind and thorough Dr. I have EVER met. VERY COMPASSIONATE!!!
He is the same everytime you see him or talk to him. HE CALLS YOU BACK :)

His office staff is incredible especially LISA DRIVER.

The only thing I liked least about him is I ONLY got to talk to him for an hour...LOL...wish I could have talked to him all day.

What should future patients know about him/her?
*you will feel very comfortable from day one with him.

How much does he/she emphasize aftercare?
Does he/she have a structured aftercare program?
* he will not do the surgery if you will not commit to aftercare or lifelong changes including vitamins and pepcid.

How did he/she address the risks of surgery?
*has you view a video explaining all ins and outs as well as a pre consult pamplet that is extremely detailed and informative.
*at consult He makes sure you understand FULLY the risks of both the SURGERY and STAYING MORBIDLY OBESE.

My first impression of Dr. Gladen and his office staff was that they were very quick with the consultations. However, any questions I had were answered in full to my satisfaction. His office staff is excellent. They worked with me and I got my consultation just 2 weeks after I asked for one and my surgery was only 2 months after that. I must say thank you to Tami J. another member with this site. She was very instrumental in helping me get everything done so fast. They are very flexible with the scheduling, especially with the post-op appointments. I think Dr. Gladen is wonderful and would highly recomend him to anyone.

I had researched the several surgeons in this area and had found that his surgical skills were truly excellent. His patients ALL spoke well of him and his personal demeanor was quite humorous ! I figure, if you're going to be cutting on me...I want a man with a sense of humor, not a grump !

His followup care is extensive and excellent ( he makes no money for all of that) and he's the Dr who took on the Medi-Cal board to approve this surgery and won.

Dr. Gladen's outstanding committment to helping those in need of help from the life/ health constraints of lifelong obesity regardless of payment is astounding. He could spend more of his time making more money doing routine general surgery cases but chooses to spend much of his time doing this surgery because of the dramatic life changes that this surgery has brought to his patients.

I certainly hope he feels satisfaction for a job truly well done from the heart.

I met with my surgeon, Dr. H.E. Gladen on 11/29/99. I felt very comfortable with him from the start. He was very informative and wanted to answer any questions I had or concerns. His office staff was very pleasant. The lady that does all of his scheduling is Olga. I can't say enough great things about her. She gives 100% trying to keep things moving at a steady pace.
