Cleveland Center for Bariatric Surgery St Vincents Bariatric Center

I was impressed with his knowlegde but concerned why the laproscopic method was not use by him. His office staff are available and very informed and helpful.
I still think the laproscopic method is preferable and dislike being told it is not done due to taking 8 hours where as in the book "Gut Feeling" the doctor says it only takes about 30 minutes longer than the open method. I think the risks were increased by the open method and I was not well informed.
the after care is good and group things seem more helpful than staff.

I anticipated a cold, clinical, God-complex personality. Instead, I met a man who seemed to truly care about the people he was treating. I didn't feel like a number, and walked out of Dr. Schreiber's office calm and confident I had made the right choice. The staff was helpful, but I personally found it rather difficult to get a few things resolved. My guess is that is due to the growing popularity not only of the procedure itself, but of this particular practice. Once they expand staff to accomodate, I think there will be fewer "administrative slip ups". Again, this is only my personal opinion. Aftercare is highly emphasized and they offer lots of opportunity to share your fears and experiences. CCBS has a great website, and I've referred to it often in the past several months. Dr. Schreiber was very honest with me in terms of risk. I know that being obese made surgery a risk. I was very confident, however, that this man had it under control. And here I am to tell the tale! Thank you God, Dr. Schreiber, Rhoda Zika, and everyone at Cleveland Center for Bariatric Surgery.

1.Well I am bipolar and for thoughs who don't know that is a form of depression with mania. I have many mood swings. When I first met Dr. Sonpal he made me cry, he felt sence i had bipolar his nurses couldn't handle me and which me being only 22 I guess he really wanted to make sure that i wanted the surgery because it was not walk in the park with him.
2.The day of the surgery, Dr. Sonpal came in with all smiles. I still felt negitive about him due to the previous meeting, but my feelings where changing when he starting to treat me like an adult, not a child.
3.Dr. Sonpal office staff was understanding and wonderful.
6.Aftercase is very important to me and to him with out it the surgery is almost pointless.
7.yes
8.The risks of the surgery where adderess by him and at lectures. Also this great person AL i call him an Angel he explained alot too he had the surgery a year ago.
9.On a scale from 1-10 i would rate Dr Sonpal with a 9 because no one is perfect.
10. Surgical Competence

Always dealing with a new Doctor I come in with an open mind and he was a very nice and gentle Doctor, who knows what he is doing. Eventhough I thought his lack of height might be a bit of a problem, but like anything else it's only a problem if you let it become one. Which Dr.Sonpal dosen't let become a problem. The is wonderfull allways there to answer any question you may have about the surgery before, during, and after. You are drilled by the Doctor and the Staff about the aftercare program and how important it is to your recovery. The aftercare program is very structured so you really can't screw up

I just met Dr. Sonpal for the first time on 4/10/01. He seemed very pleasant and thorough. He and Dr. Helmut Schreiber always work as a team during each surgery. This reduces the amount of time spent under anesthesia. I like this concept. I spent approximately 15 minutes with Dr. Sonpal during which he completed a medical history of me to ascertain my risk status for surgery.
The office staff of both surgeons appear very efficient and caring. They have this system down to a science.
They not only have a structured aftercare program, they have a very structured pre surgery program in which a Clinical Nurse Specialist gives a detailed description of what this surgery entails. Risks and complications are discussed in detail. They ask for a 2 year committment from each patient for follow up.
While I would like my surgeon to have a great bedside manner complete with a sense of humor, I would rather have surgical excellence.
12/19/01- 3 months post op. I experienced some problems during my post op period. Dr. Sonpal was extremely attentive as were the 4 other physicians I had on consultation.

When I had my first visit with Dr. Schreiber I found him very interesting, He really wasn't much of a talker, I did the majority of the talking, I think I did that because I was very nervous, But all in all I found him to be very nice, but he got you outta there quickly ,, The office staff was pretty friendly, never really had a issue with them..
