Coastal Surgical Specialists, P.C. Bariatric Center

I really have nothing nice to say about my doctor or the staff........I will say this I would take a doctor who I have nothing nice to say about but is good at his job.....he is an excellent surgeon and knows his job......the way he is as a person well others can be the judge of that......I would suggest him only because he has done over 600 of the open rny's.

Dr. Mocosco is a very friendly surgeon. He was polite and never made me feel "big". He is very well groomed and takes his time with you and carefully answered all of my questions. The office was running behind at least an hour so the staff was very busy trying to catch up. The staff was not overly friendly but they were not unkind and they were very busy. The thing I liked least would have to be the time I waited in the waiting room. (Who likes to sit in a waiting room from 11:15-12:40) Dr. Mocosco doesn't emphazie after care to the degree that portsmouth naval hospital does but he does talk about it. He does not have a structured after care program but they do have a support group that meets once a month. He did address all the rish of surgery. Dr. Mocosco would get an good overall rating. He really took his time with me, even though he was running behind, he answered all my questions and made me feel like he is very competent and showed great bedside manner.

Dr Brown is having a baby next month. She seemed very knowledgeable answered my questions I wish I had her energy.

I have only had one visit with Dr. Brown. Even though she is due to have a baby in July 2003 she is extremely energetic. She is approachable, confident, knowledgeable and has a wicked sense of humor. She and her nurse, Katie, were informative and accomadating. Dr. Brown took her time with me. Even though she had many other patients waiting for her...I never felt rushed. She treated me as if I were the only patient she had to see all day. She encouraged me to find out as much as I could about the surgery and challenged me to come back with a list of questions on my next visit.
My only concern with Dr. Brown was she made the surgery seem so...common place. Almost like it was no big deal. That could just be my interpretation.
Katie gave me information regarding a support group that meets the first Thursday of every month. I attended that meeting as was pleasantly surprised. I meet pre-ops an post ops and a nutrionist. As I learn more I will be glad to share more with you.

05/29/03 Had my second visit with Dr. Brown yesterday. I came prepared with 3 pages of questions! She answered them all honestly and directly. I feel extremely confident having her perform my surgery on 6/6/03.She continues to be upbeat and very personalbe.
Katie has been a blessing through out these last few weeks. She has returned all my calls, remained patient with me, and has been helpful filling out FMLA forms for work.
These ladies are a winning team!

I didnt love the cold receptionist who had no sense of humor or personality that I could see. Also for a doctors office that holds 3 docs that do the gastric-bypass, youd think theyd have a scale to weigh people with who might exceed 350 (those old medical metal scales from elementary school) So needless to say I have to go to Weight Watchers and join just so I can know how much I weigh.
I did however LOVE Dr Moscoso! (they spelled it wrong on this page) Hes not only handsome..lol but hes young so hes witty and has a super personality. Our visit was a lot less stressful then I expected. He made me feel very comfortable, more like going in to talk to a friend than seeing some stuffy old doctor who I thought would talk down to me. Roz, who is his assistant has been very patient with me when I call like a nervous child with silly questions. I also loved that they have support group meetings each month which I definitely will attend. Im sold!

My first impression of Dr.Berger was that he was willing to help me in any way he possible could.
He has a wonderful assistant ANDREA she is the type of person you know will go to bat for you. She is the reason it took only 3 days for me to be approved she was GREAT.

Since I prefer female doctors, my first impression was good, I was very comfortable with Dr. Brown.
As time goes by, I am more & more comfortable with her. I chose her for my gastric bypass as she had done my lumpectomy for breast cancer.
The office staff is very friendly and helpful. Her nurse is very good about answering questions.
Aftercare is weak. She depends upon a nutritionist to teach the patient how to eat. But the nutritionist is not apt to teach about the specific nutrition needs of bypass patients, i.e. malabsorption issues. Luckily, there was another group I could go to which was very helpful immediately after surgery & in learning how to eat.
Very frank in answering my questions regarding the risk involved.
I'm very pleased with Dr. Brown.
I think surgical competence and bedside manner are great.
The doc really seems sure of herself. I guess I felt comfortable.Opinion hasnt changed. I have only had one meeting so far... she did however surprise me with a Rectal Exam... yuk!!!!! Not ready for that.... but it was over quick.. she said "She didnt want any surprises on the operating table". Office was very nice. Clean, and staff was very professional.. I even went so far as to talk to other patients waiting to be seen by Dr. Browne. I wouldnt say anything bad because I really dont know that much about her, that would not be fair....I would say that I wish my doctor had a support group, and material on the lapriscopic procedure in stead she only provided material on the insicional. Again, I have not seen her but once so not much has been discussed and I cant rate her overall. I think she did have great bedside manner. Update... I liked her. She is very confident. She is very enthusiastic. I can tell she loves her job, and is very busy. She doesnt have a structured after care program, but I know it is all up to me now.

Dr. Jeffrey Berger was very warm, knowledgeable, and took as much time as I needed to answer my questions. He freely discussed the good and bad about the surgery and his surgical experiences. He discussed the post-op period at length. I really liked him and felt very comfortable with him and his assistant Andrea. He is very organized and friendly. He does not mind answering any question and carefully looks at your medical history. Strongly emphasis aftercare compliance. I would rate him 9 on scale of 1-10. I would give him a 10 if he had a support group for his bariatric surgery patients.
Dr. Berger called me after my inital visit to answer additional questions I had regarding the surgery. He was very patient and informative.
I do not remember seeing Dr. Berger before the surgery, I was medicated and do not remember going to the OR. After I recovered he was gone and his partners, Dr. Brown and Dr. Gelpi saw me until discharge, therefore I did not see Dr. Berger for my entire admission. This was concerning to me as we had discussed some care issues that did not happen because the other physicians were not aware. The care I recieved from the partners of Dr. Berger was excellent and I have not one complaint. I just wish I could have seen my physician after my surgery. Dr. Berger did speak at length to my family and they were very impressed with him and his care of me.
