Eric Yancy, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center

I met Dr. Eric Yancey in person today for the first time and was very impressed with his manner and thoroughness. I know he will be the surgeon to get me through this. He has done more than 750 RNY's and really has the experience and expertise that I was looking for when deciding which surgeon to choose. There was nothing not to like about Dr. Yancey. He really put me at ease and was great answering all my many questions.

His office staff has been wonderful and from what I hear from the members in the support group they really do care about their patients and will do whatever they can to help us. Everyone I have met so far has been top rate.

I was referred to Dr.Eric Yancy by my Physiatrist who had had the same surgery. My primary care physician told me she would have also recommended Dr.Yancy because he and DR.Schrectner(his partner) were the best in the Tidewater area. He is very caring and professional. He listened and answered all of my questions before and after surgery. Since his office staff does only this surgery, they are there with a complete package for aftercare. At my 3 week post-surgicial visit on March, 8th. I will be given a larger menu from which to choose foods and info about my aftercare support group. I would rate Dr. Eric Yancy and his staff as the group to do this surgery.
The only problem I encountered happened because I gave the incorrect info about the pain medication I am on for my fibromylagia. I am allergic to Morphine and the replacement pain medication did little to cut my pain on the day of surgery. I actually had a nurse at Sentara Leigh in Norfolk, VA. tell me I was not in pain. That experience was very difficult and degrading. I will be sure if there is any other surgery to inform my surgeon of my correct dossage of pain med.

Dr. Yancey is very informative and takes the time to answer all your questions. He has an excellent attitude and puts you at ease very quickly.

He explained the procedure in detail and told me all of the risks involved and also told me how many surgeries he perfomed and the amount of his patients that had complications.

His aftercare program is excellelent.We meet once a week at the hospital as a group.We ask questions and have problems solved that may have come up during the week.We also have recipe sharing and guest speakers.

Dr. Yancey has a great staff and they are always on call to answer any and all questions.

I really don't have any negative comments because I was very luck and blessed to have had no complications!

First let me say that ObesityHelp has his last name incorrectly spelled. The correct spelling is Yancey. My first impression of Dr. Yancey is that he is a very caring and skilled surgeon. The staff in his office is great.

12/10/02 - I had my group consultation with Gretchen today. I found Gretchen to be very informative and compassionate. Dr. Schecner popped in to say hello to the crowd, so I haven't talked with him personally yet.

1/16/03- Dr. Yancey and Dr. Schechner are in the same practice. I decided to go with whichever doctor could perform the surgery first. Dr. Yancey himself called me this afternoon at work to schedule the surgery. I was trying so hard not to scream in the man's ear. But I was just sooo excited! He was so easy to talk to on the phone. So far the entire office has been very helpful and polite.

2/24/03 - Dr. Yancey's bedside manner can not be matched. He has a great sense of humor and is also a wonderful surgeon. He made me feel at ease before the surgery and was reassuring after the surgery. I know I made the right choice!

Is very personal and made me feel comfortable and confident about myself and having the surgery.Very compassionate and a wonderful person.

He seemed to genuinely care about his patients and actually said we could call him directly. I cant wait to have my surgery!

My impression of Dr. Yancy is that he is a very personable doctor. He answer your question with ease. He is also very knowledgable. Dr. Yancy was able to alievate all of my fears. His office staff is very helpful. I especially like Gretchen. She has been very helpful and knowledgable with a sweet disposition. Rest assured if someone decides to go with this office and either doctor they wold be getting a great team. He emphasized that aftercare is very important. He does address the risks of the surgery compentently. I would rate Dr. Yancy and his staff A1.
