J. Chris Eagon Bariatrics Bariatric Center

Doctor Eagon is a great surgeon. He spent alot of time with me and answered all my questions. His nurse, Donna, is awesome and she runs the support groups. She was the one that answered all my questions post-op. One thing I really liked about Dr. Eagon was that he didn't "sugar coat" the surgery. He layed it all out and explained the risks as well as the benefits. He is quiet and you should expect to wait a substantial amount of time if you go to his office at big Barnes. I go to his West County Barnes location and it is much nicer and easier. You don't have to pay for parking.

I had my evaluation in Dec 2003. The doctor ordered several tests due to my medical conditions. He seemed very thorough and explained the surgery in great detail. He answered all the questions my husband and I asked. Once all the tests were completed it took his staff too long to get the info to him so he could write up the insurance approval request. I had to call numerous times to get a status/update on the insurance processs.

Dr. Eagon is awesome! My first impression was he was very shy. I later learned he is also very modest about his knowledge, skills and abilities as a weight-loss surgeon. He is very thorough and will answer any and all questions in a clear and concise manner. I initially met with his coworker, Dr. Halpin, and she explained everything to me about the procedure, the risks of such surgery and what would be done in my specific case. I did not meet Dr. Eagon until the actual day of my surgery. He has a very soft voice and you can actually hear the passion he feels for his patients in his voice. He explained what was going to happen to me and that I would be very happy with the results.
His office staff is phenomenal; especially, his nurse, Donna. My incision became red and "angry" looking and I called Donna and she immediately knew what I was talking about. She saw me that very day and once she saw my incision, she paged Dr. Eagon and was at the office within 10 minutes. Can I say, SERVICE!!! This was on a Friday and near the end of the day. They arranged for a home health nurse to see me for the next three days to make sure it did not get any worse and require further intervention. Luckily, the antibiotics he prescribed took care of the infection. I later developed a stricture and Donna made all of the arrangements for an endoscope, which corrected the problem. I have had two minor complications, but they were not the fault of my doctor. However, they were resolved by him and his staff expeditiously. I could not ask for anything more. I also had a few problems with the lack of nursing care at Barnes Jewish, which he and other members of his team helped to take care of during my stay. He fully emphasizes aftercare to maintain health. I would rate him the highest score possible. I believe surgical competence is the most important thing to consider when chosing a surgeon. Bedside manner is also important and I believe Dr. Eagon's manner has improved dramatically when I compare my experience with him against others.

Dr. Eagon is a very kind, considerate doctor. He took the time to ask you questions and really listen to me and my impression of him remained the same. He came to see me everyday in the hospital and answered all of my family's many questions. His office staff is great and demonstrate the same patience and interest in the patients they service. There was nothing that I least like about him or his staff. Everyone is very competent with EXCELLENT follow through. When they said they were going to do something, they did it and with great professionalism. Dr. Eagon's program is very comprehensive. He is in one of the leading hospitals in the nation (Barnes-Jewish Hospital) and he works with the Washington University Hospital to determine who is appropriate for the surgery. This program is so comprehensive. All aspects of the surgical process and aftercare program are thoroughly explained and plenty of written information is given to you for your review. I have no complaints about my treatment and I would rate Dr. Eagon and his staff, on a scale of 1-10 a 10.
Please note: My experience was very positive and true. I did research WLS for 5 years and participated in a WLS support group for a year and a half. I researched to find a number one doctor and hospital and made a well informed decision. The most important thing is to make sure that you research and find the most professional and competent surgeon to meet your needs. This is about my personal experience and I'm not making any statements about what other people may experience.

2-23-05 I had my pre-surgery consult with Dr. Eagon yesterday. My first impression with the office was that they were a very busy office. But the office staff were very nice and the waiting area was nice. His nurses were very busy but acted professional and were helpful. I felt like Dr. Eagon was very informative he answered all of my questions and explained the benefits, risks, aftercare, etc. I found out that because I'm on the upper end of BMI that I will have to have an "open" procedure and that I'll be in the hospital 4-5 days. Dr. Eagon's office will contact me to schedule a surgery date after they get the approval from my insurance company. Part of my consult was a PT eval, meeting with dietician, and meeting with a psychologist. Each of those providers were nice and very knowledgeable, but they aren't very timely. I had to wait a minimum of 45 minutes past my appointment time to meet with them. Otherwise I didn't have any complaints.

First impression: very professional and time efficient. On my most recent visit to see Dr. Eagon, he spent quite a while with me asking and answering questions. Very competent doctor and staff.
Office staff very kind and willing to assist me each time I called with questions.
It seems like time with Dr. is very limited. But at the same time he took time to answer all my questions.
Support groups were offered and encouraged.
Surgery risks were all explained in detail.
I would rate Dr. Eagon and his staff as excellent.

My first impression was that he's a very serious, competent person.........a little aloof, busy. I met him after surgery and my opinion hasn't changed. His nurse, Donna is sweet, soft-spoken and extremely overworked. His office manager Julie is abrupt to the point of rudeness. A distinct contrast to his nurse. I think it could be better, more instruction but Donna always answers her messages. He was very thorough in going through the risks and statistics. I would rate him the guy I want to operate on me. I can't say, I can just go by the recommendations I've had from my endocranologist and a few surgeons in the neighborhood. I guess maybe an 8 out of 10. Surgical competence was most important to me. I wish he had a better bedside manner but I think he's shy

I like him very professional and my local doctor said he was very very good had a good team built up and had been doing this for many years. He felt he was the best one for me to go to.
Saw him first 2 1/2 years ago then again this past June and he was the same.
The office staff is very nice and helpfull.
There wasn't anything I didn't like about him.
He is a good surgeon is all I can say.
I'm waiting now for some paperwork on my aftercare.
Aftercare is very important.
Yes he told of risks.
