Dr. Stoner and his nurse Janet were both very friendly, helpful and straightforward. Also very tolerant of my 4-yr. old that had to tag along! Answered all of my questions, considerate.

Dr. Stoner is a very kind, gentle surgeon that takes an extraordinary amount of interest in his patients. He spent considerable time on two separate occasions to discuss the surgical options and emphasized the risks involved and what I could expect in the future as a result. He is always readily accessible for questions and concerns and when you call his number after hours, you get him immediately, not an answering service. Pre-op he even called me at home on Sunday to discuss some issues with my medications and to see how I was doing. His assistant, Janet is also a very special person. She always takes the time to discuss any questions and make sure that I was thoroughly informed of what I might expect. I have never experienced patient care and concern from a physician and his office staff like I experienced with Dr. Stoner. I would highly recommend him to anyone in the area who is considering this surgery. He is the greatest! He is a highly competent and caring surgeon. And as an added bonus, he did a beautiful job on my incision. At 4 weeks post op, I am healed up and have a very thin line from my incision that looks great already.

The dietician that Dr. Stoner works with is also fantastic. She is strict, but thorough and tells you just how it is. She has been developing a program for this surgery for many years and definitely excels in competence.

You can't explain it all. Dr. Stoner has been great, and his nurse Janet is wonderful. From the beginning she has always taken the time to talk to me. Even when it wasn't important to anyone else but me. She sent me a folder of info, to start, then later set me up with my first appt. with Dr. Stoner. He was sweet and came out to me. No stuffy offices here. I told him that my hearing is kinda bad and he always tried to remember to talk louder for me so that I did not misunderstand anything. He explained exverything carefully and added WLS history when he felt it would explain options better.
I had to have a special test done on my esophogus. When it was time to have this scope "shoved" down my throat, the first thing Dr. Stoner did was ask me about my weekend. I felt so relaxed after that and the whole thing went fine. Thay day of surgery he chatted briefly with my family. (My dad had VBG with another surgeon - and Dr. Stoner wanted to meet him.) He made sure that my biggest concern was met - "make sure my family knows how everything is going during surgery, do not make them wait!" With a 5 1/2 hours surgery they said someone came out four times! He checked on me everyday and then some while I was in the hospital. I had lots of anxiety after I left the hospital and called with several questions. He always called me back and never let me feel stupid. Once he even commented on how it can all be kind of scary. He comes to the support group meetings when he can. Janet takes care of all of that too! She deserves a raise. Anything to change - maybe more information on what to expect after you get home in terms of how you feel, what do if... He really is one of the nicest and caring doctors of all I have met. Thanks Dr. Stoner!

He is very thorough and was very quick in getting all my paperwork done and sent in.He even answers his own phone.

Dr. Stoner struck me as a man that was serious about his job. He was more than willing to answer all my questions and never made me felt like i was imposing.
Janet is his office manager you might say that she is the backbone. There is nothing she cant answer for you. She i believe keeps Dr Stoner grounded.
The office first struck me as unorganized and full of clutter. After several visits i must say that Janet knows where everything is and everything has its place.
Dr. Stoner doesnt sugar coat anything he tells you like it is. He covers all possible scenarios good and bad.
Dr Stoner has been doing this type of surgery for over 20 years. He never not one time made me feel like i was inferior or less of a person because of my weight.
I would recommend Dr Stoner to anyone who is looking for a competent surgeon.

I have not met my surgeon yet, but the contact that I have had thus far with his office staff has been professional, knowledgable, and very polite. I did however have some trouble making contact for my medical history over the phone, but persistance paid off. The biggest problem was getting my schedule in sync with theirs, or vice versa. They seem to have a very busy office, and a small staff. I do think in the long run this will be a plus though. I have an apt. for consultaion on December 11, 2001. December 11,2001
I just met my surgeon last eveing, and he is really wonderful. If I have any questions or doubts, He told me that he is available anytime to answer them. He does have an odd sort of personality, but he is so sweet and goes out of his way to make sure you know exactly what this surgery involves, and that you understand it fully. After talking with him for a while (I was there for an hour just talking to him) my impression of him being odd changed a bit. He is just really concerned that you know what you are getting into and that it is a life long commitment. He and his nurse Janet talked extensivly to me about aftercare, and nutrition. After surgery there will be a dietition that works with Dr. Stoner that will be available to me should I need her, and will help me with my after care diet. He does have a small office with a waiting room that looks like it should have a tv and a remote on the coffee table. It is a little cluttered, and small, but don't let that fool you, they are very professional about everything.

I think I have been extremely fortunate to have found Dr. Stoner for my surgeon. My care has been excellent and my recover has been very speedy due to his expertise and that of his staff.

After care in the hospital and out has been excellent. If I need Dr after hours, I don't get an answering service, I get him on his cell phone. In the hospital they were really prepared for me and my surgery. Everything that I ate was enriched with protien powder and had no sugar. Sugar wasn't even offered to me. There were butter buds, and splenda to add to any of my food if I wanted it.

My first impression was that Dr was kind of odd, but after getting to know him better. I found out that he has a wonderful sense of humor and his bedside manor is just peachy.

I am very happy with the aftercare that I have recieved from Dr. Stoner. He has been just wonderful. I had my last post op apt for now. I won't see him again for four months. He plans to keep checking on me for the next year.

Dr. Stoner is very kind, professional, and reassuring. He has been doing Bariatric surgeries for a long time and is very knowledgeable. In fact, Dr. Stoner told me that the doctor who created the bariatric procedure is from University of Iowa and has influenced his techniques.
The staff at Dr. Stoner’s office is also very helpful, kind and patient. Janet helped me with my insurance company---without her I doubt I would have gotten accepted to have surgery. My surgery date is July 15 2002—and so far my experience with Dr. Stoner and his staff have been nothing but positive! I highly recommend Dr. Stoner to anyone who is looking for a surgeon. I also would like to mention that the hospital where Dr. Stoner is located is a very friendly small sized hospital—where everyone respects Dr. Stoner’s patients. I know that I should be saying something that isn't positive, but I don't have anything negative to say. I will update after surgery though!

Good luck and GOD BLESS! Ann

Dr.Stoner is a very kind and caring man. I had my first visit with him 4-9-02. He explained everything in great detail, I already had alot of knowledge from this website, so I was well informed too. He will send a letter to Bcbs, Blue Acess to get aproval. I hope it all goes smooth. His offic manager Janet is wounderful, kind, and knowledgable. He and Janet have support meetings every month, and he will follow my aftercare and see me every six months after the post op period. They are always there for questions. I am very pleased with Dr. Stoner and Janet. I hope the insurance approves. He explained the risks honestly and to the point. I am haveing the bypass. I will keep you all informed. So far I'm not as scared and feel I picked a good surgen.
