Dr Rodriguez is probley one of the best doctors I have EVER met! Great bedside manner.Barbara his assistance emailed me 26 different detailed letter all about Lap Band.Which I read about 20 times EACH. Valuable information..100% research at my finger tips. The hospital in Acuna Mexico is older but spotless!.Only 10 rooms.( just 4 were occipuied while I was there) with 4 nurses. Try getting that in the States. This was the best $7300.00 I have ever spent on myself. Oh yes, don't let me forget to tell you about the shopping spree Barbara takes you & your companions on. Thank you Dr Rod for offering Lap Band to people like me who doesn't have insurance. At a GREAT price by a professional, experienced surgeon.

Do not let the fact that he practices in a very small, old hospital deter you.

He was a wonderful Surgeon - a geat bedside manner and very experienced - a perfect mix. The staff was very friendly - though they did not speak english - they made every attempt to make you comfortable. There wasn't anything I didn't like about Dr. Rodriguez - if I had to list one negative thing it would be that the staff didn't speak english - but it wasn't a huge barrier. If i needed the dr. I'd have made that clear and they would have called him immediately and I could have talked directly to him.

Wonderful, very warm and sincere, I knew he had a great reputation and felt very safe with him. I have had no complications and a very easy surgery. Dr. Rodriguez and his coordinator give you a wealth of printed information via e-mail and are accessible if you have further questions. The aftercare program is structured and written down. I do feel that patients who go to Mexico are a little more pro-active than others and all the information that you need is easily accessible.

Dr. Rod is an excellent surgeon with a great personality and bedside manner.

The hospital in Acuna is very small, very clean, but humble. If you are looking for a shiny high-rise, this ain't it! Having said that, I felt well looked-after.

Dr. Rodriquez was very kind and informative.
My impression of him never changed. The staff was very organized and compassionate. The hospital was clean. If someone came to me and said would you refer others to him? I would most definately say yes! Dr. Roderiquez has an organized system that allows the patient to be fully aware of the banding procedure as well as the fact that this new internal "tool" for weight loss is managed by the patient. His lovely assistant Barbara is just an angel when it comes to information. She floods the prospective patient with enormous amounts of literature and will even call you if you have questions. This is the best $7000.00 dollars ever spent in my life! I have nothing negative to say about the entire experience.

I have only conversed w/him via email so far. I'll update this later. While his assistant, Barbara, provides alot of helpful information, it seems as though this is very no frills--you need to know what you want before you show up, so do your research!!

I think Dr. Jose Rodriguez was GREAT!! He sat and talked with me before the surgery and was very patient as I asked him all of my questions. He kept patting me reassuringly on the arm as he answered me. Dr. Rod chatted with my Dad and Sister outside of my room while I was getting in my gown. They loved him! Then, he spent about 30 mins the day after surgery in my room chatting some more with us. He's a really great guy! And Barbara, his assitant/angel, couldn't be a better person. The hospital was nice too. I had my own (very clean) room with a/c, tv, and a shower. I couldn't have expected better treatment or accomodations in the U.S. In the operating room, there were 4 or 5 other people to assist.

I have ABSOLUTELY NO REGRETS for chosing Dr. Rodriguez or getting the band in Mexico!

My only suggestion is that you bring a Spanish/English translation dictionary with you to help communicate with the nurses who do not speak any English.

Had been researching WLS for probably 2 + years. Found Dr. Rodriquez in Acuna, Mexico (across from Del Rio Texas border)

Made decision to have Dr. Rod do surgery based on conversations with his other patients, his low complication rate, and proximity to my home (3 hour drive from San Antonio).

Immediately felt comfortable with him. He is down to earth, answers all questions, and responds to questions after surgery via email or his U.S. assistant.

Surgery went well, the only problem was hospital staff started anesthesia before Dr. had chance to come in. Was able to briefly talk to him before anesthesia took full effect. He apologized immensley for this. I don't think this was his fault. Other than this issue, the hospital was extremely clean and staff very helpful/nice.

Aftercare is mainly handled thru U.S. assistant via phone, emails, etc. He recommended 6 week post op visit for fills and to address other concerns.

Was also impressed by his low complication rate, less than 2%. I feel he is very competent, and would not hesitate to do it over again knowing what I know now. Wish his website had a little more detailed infor. www.joseband.com

I was very pleased with Dr. R. He is an awesome person and a very educated surgeon. I have never met a surgeon or doctor who was as personal as he was. He sat right down on the bed beside me and talked to me like I was his equal. He spoke to me in general terms I could understand. He discussed my concerns and made me feel at ease. Before he left he placed his hand on my shoulder, asked me if I was ready, and then reassured me everything would be okay. I was completely at ease. I am not sure about follow up with Dr. R because I live in Georgia and it is too far to travel back and forth but I have heard really good things about his after-care. I would suggest that if you have questions then ask because he does not offer much info instead he relies on you to have done your homework. I would rate Dr. R a ten by far. He has made it possible for me to live a better, more healthy life. He has given me the opportunity to see my children grow up. Thanks Dr. R! The question at the bottom of this page asked me if I have anything negative to say...the answer is no. If I have anything remotely negative to say it would be that you have to rely on second party info. But it was never wrong or indirect info so I don't guess I can't even complain about that.
