Koren Bariatric and Surgical Services Bariatric Center

I used ObesityHelp to find James Koren, MD. He had the best reviews in the Lehigh Valley at the time (12/2004). First impression: caring, thorough, skilled, honest, sense of humor. That never changed.
Office staff - some nurse turnover, but otherwise, great.
Aftercare: Lacking in structure. I would have appreciated a dietitian/nutritionist on his personal staff.
Risks: Very honest. Used a powerpoint presented.
I would give Dr. Koren a 10+ rating.
Needs to be a balance between bedside manner and surgical competence. If I had to choose one over the other, I'd choose surgical competence.
The only negative: That he moved away!!!

A couple of years ago, I had to have an endoscopy to see why I was having so much heartburn. The gastroentologist said "You have one of the best RNY's I've ever seen, and your pouch is exactly what it should look like. Dr. Koren left Easton Hospital about 4 yrs after my surgery - went to New England. I still miss him. I religiously do my yearly follow-up blood work and office visit with his replacement, up until last year. I saw a bariatric surgeon - part of the Lehigh Valley Health Network. Because I've had no issues with my surgery and have maintained my weight loss, he released me to my PCP for the yearly blood work.

My personal opinion is that he is very compassionate and empathetic. Great bedside manner. Office staff very friendly, patient and professional. Also very informative. Both a great surgeon and great beside manner! Would definitely recommend...very dedicated and follows up promptly! I have nothing negative to say about Doctor James Koren. Just sorry that he had to leave the area.

Everything about this man is kind and compassionate. He has the most awesome bedside manner and is an excellent surgeon. His staff is kind courteous and prompt.

Dr. Koren is awesome! Kind, compassionate, doctor and a true professional! My impression of him just got better over time. What doctor do you know these days that actually pushes their patients wheel chair down for a test? His office staff is also awesome! All the ladies in his office are pleasant and exremeley helpful! Aftercare is highly emphasized as important. There is a structured aftercare program...you are sent home with a post op manual, attend support group meetings, have direct access to paging his bariatric coordinator and follow up appointments in his office.Hi surgical competeence and bedside manner are both excellent! He addressed the risks honestly and statistically. I rate him exremely high! No worries with this man and his team on your side! Mandy, the bariatric coordinator, is also excellent!!

There are'nt enough words to describe the care that Dr Koren provides to his patients.We see it every time we go to Support Group Meetings,He has always been in attendance.If that is'nt dedication, I don't know what is......This also applies to the Bariatric Coordinator, Mandy who has always been there for me,to answer any questions I may have had regarding any issues with my surgery.rnrnDr Koren's personality & mannerism speaks for itself,his bedside & office manner has always been professional,caring & always competent.rnDr Koren's office staff are always polite,friendly & caring.rnI will always be grateful to all who helped me with my personal battle to achieve a healthy lifestyle,it is truly a life change for the better.rnDr Koren is truly the \"People's Doctor\",He has changed so many lives................rnFor this I will always be grateful...............rnThank You Always!!!!

I knew the moment I met Dr. Koren he would be the one to perform my surgery. He is an excellent surgeon and a wonderful person. He helped change my life and I will never forget that. The office and his support staff are the best. On a scalle of 1-10 he is a 550. I just celebrated my 1 year anniversary and the loss of 100lbs. This was a true blessing.

Dr. Koren is an unbelievable great surgeon. I think he is the best in the Lehigh Valley area for Bariatric surgery. He is very pleasant and easy to talk to. On my consultation appointment he had answered every question i had printed out before I could ask any. Very knowledgeable. This was my first surgery ever so I was a little scared but Mandy and Dr. Koren took excellent care of me. I was in the hospital for appx. 2 days and Dr. Koren or Mandy were up several times checking up on me to see how I was doing. I was amazed by how much there were around (i am a nurse and couldnt believe i saw them soo much on a med/surg unit). If you are thinking about Bariatric surgery I would HIGHLY reccomend Dr. KOREN!!!!!

Dr. Koren and his staff are caring and helpful. He is very accessible and approachable, attending monthly support groups. He has a very structured aftercare program. The risks of surgery were well detailed, and he is an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10.rnrnMandy Nyce, the RN surgical coordinator, is fantastic and make the process run smoothly.
