Marshall Orloff, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center

Dr. Orloff is excellent and very caring. The staff were a great help in scheduling my pre-op appointments and setting my surgery date up wihin in 2 weeks after my first visit. I just can't believe things are moving so fast. Dr. Orloff was very informative about the risks of the surgery and even sketched out a diagram of the RNY procedure. I'm very happy to have Dr. Orloff as my surgeon.

My doctor has been around for about 35 years as a general surgeon.
I found him to be very caring about his patients and very
demanding of his staff (which I liked). I did have a few
problems with the staff returning phone calls and getting
messages to him.
He did explain fully the risks/benefits associated with the
surgery. He also sent you home to think about whether the
surgery is something you actually want to do, instead of
expecting an answer right then and there.
The only thing I would change is the aftercare. I don't
think there is enough support available. I don't think
that has anything to do with my doctor, but moreso the
hospital in which he works. My doctor stresses the
utmost importance of following his aftercare instructions
and the risks of not doing so.
I'm very pleased with him overall. He is a very competent
surgeon and has a WONDERFUL bedside manner, which makes all
the difference!!

Dr. Marshall Orloff, UCSD
Dr. Orloff was highly recommended by my PCP. I liked him immediately. He's an older gentleman, who's actually a general surgeon. He is, however, very, very well known in the UC system. He's pioneered several surgical procedures. He's been doing this kind of RNY surgery for 10 years. He's not a "bariatric" surgeron per se, but he likes doing these kinds of surgeries. He was very concerned that I have plenty of emotional support before/during and after the surgery. He wanted to meet my husband, and was pleased that my hubby is a great guy. He explained all the complications and of course, the morbidity rates. His staff was fine, as I've not had a lot to do with them. His personal secretary was GREAT in the way she got the insurance to move so quickly. The biggest drawback about UCSD is the lack of an aftercare program. There is nutritional counseling and so forth, but no support groups and the like. I'm hoping to attend another hospital's support group. I believe Dr. Orloff's excellence in the OR is a huge benefit to me. His patient care is top notch (according to a friend who had WLS with him) The nurses respect him immensely, which is important, and his patients are treated very, very well. He won't have it any other way. All in all, if UCSD is on your health plan, Dr. Marshall Orloff is probably one of the best to go with!
