Medical Center Obesity Surgery Bariatric Center

I first met Dr. Harberg in November on a referral from not only my PCP, but a close friend who is post-op 10 months. She has currently lost 75 lbs. I will agree that he does have a dry sense of humor, but I went to him because of his credentials not his sense of humor. One of the things that I like about him is that he is not only a Bariatric Surgeon, but also a Cardio Thorasic Surgeon. Due to my weight there is always the possiblity that there could be heart complications during or after surgery. I am happy to know that I will have a surgeon that knows all his stuff. I am scheduled for surgery on January 26, 2000. After sending in my insurance information, Aetna HMO, it took less than 2 weeks for approval. This is the best Christmas present I could ever want. I have been through the approval process before with another physician, and due to the insurance I had at the time, MSCH HMO, I was denied. I went through the entire appeal process, as well as independant review with no luck. After changing companies, of which I was employeed over 10 years, the approval was no problem. So far I am very pleased, as is my family, with Dr. Harberg. I highly recommend him and his staff as being informative, and cordial. He was and is very up front with procedure, time frame, risks, and aftercare. I have personally worked with Tammi and she has been a gem. If you are considering this procedure, please take the time to check him out.

Dr. Hargerg has continued with my care in the post-op period. All I can tell you is this...if he is happy with your progess his usually gruff demeanor will soften quite a bit...if he is not happy with your progress he will stay on you like a drill sergent. I just love him and thank God for him everyday.

Dr. Harberg takes himself very seriously. He seems extremely competent, and I trust him to be successful. His office staff is VERY helpful and patient.

I like Dr. Harberg's dry humor, and no-nonsense approach. My sense is that he wants to work with people who are committed to making a serious change in their life and relationship to food and exercise. Even having read extensively on the WWW about this surgery, and having met with folks who have had the surgery, it was still an eye-opening experience to meet with him and hear the facts. Didn't change my level of commitment but certainly caused me to reflect deeping about what my commitment level is. Whatever the outcome of my surgery and future journey, my life will never be the same, and I know I must be completely comfortable with this.

No nonsense and very direct. He seems to truly desire to give you the tools to help you lose the weight. He does not provide much in after care, other than surgical, and I could have really benefited from counseling after the surgery to help me deal with the drastic change in eating habits. Dr. Harberg is a wonderful person and an excellent surgeon. His staff was very helpful and professional in their approach to everything.

My impression stayed the same, he was a very nice man as long as you stuck to his rules. His office staff was very nice, especially considering I called 3 times a day until I found out that I was approved. I believe that he was a very competent surgeon and I would recommend him to anyone. The only thing I wish is that he had a more of a "support group" aftercare program.

My surgeon will be Dr Harberg. I met with him for the initial consultation and found him to be very informative and compassionate. He had a sense of humor and I felt totally comfortable with him. He showed me a video explaining in detail how the surgery works and what I could face after the surgery. I also liked his office staff. They assured me they would take care of all the details of contacting my insurance company for approval. I am now anxiously awaiting to hear if my surgery will be approved.

Well he has a no nonsense sense of humor... straight and to the point. He let's you know right up front that this is not a quick fix solution to your problem but a tool to help you overcome the problem. I enjoyed his honesty and candor. His surgical record is impecable. He really knows his stuff. I found it quite a comfort that he was open and up front with me. My inital office visit was on 5/03/00. His office staff are the greatest. They went out of the way to help me and make me feel comfortable with this life altering decision. I would recommend Dr. Harberg to everyone.

Dr Harberg is very straight forward, you never wonder where you stand with him, he'll let you know.I like that rather than beating around the bush.
The office staff has been wonderful, always ready to answer any questions or give any assistance needed.
Dr. Harberg follows your success closely, he always has a cure for whatever the problem may be.
He made me fully aware of ALL risks of surgery at the first visit.
I would highly recomend him,He is a very skilled and dedicated surgeon and I would use him all over again.

My first impression was that he was a no non-sense doctor. Very through and he wants to make sure that you are ready to make the commitment for life!He doesn't want you to waste your time or his if you are not ready to commit.
His office staff is great!
Dr Hargerg has a very dry sense of humor so it is very hard to tell when he is joking. But after a couple of visits you find that he is a very funny man and will absolutely adore him!.
Aftercare for him is very important to him. He gives you a list of foods and expects you to follow it to the T. He feels that if you don't, you are compromising your surgery.
Again, he is very through when it comes to the risks of the surgery. When you leave his office YOU ARE INFORMED AS TO EVERY ASPECT OF THIS SURGERY!
I would rate him at the top of the list! I would recomend my own family members to this doctor.Both surgical competence and bedside manner are great.
