Medical Center Obesity Surgery Bariatric Center

My first impression of Dr.Harberg was that he was A mean grouchy kind of person, but before I left his office, I knew within my heart of hearts, that he would be my surgeon. He also has a terrific office staff, that are friendly, and always willing to help met your needs. I cant think of anything that I did not like about this doctor. I had done my research, and knew what to expct before i met him, but he really was not as mean as I had heard. Actually he was not mean at all, but he doe's make sure that you know exactly what you are getting into, and he makes sure that you are a good candidate for this surgery. There are rules that you will have to live by for the rest of your life, and he explains this throughly. He was very upfront about the risks involved.
Overall on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the greatest, I would rate him 100,000,000,000,000.
In my opinion, BOTH his surgical competence, and his bedside manner are great.
In closing, please allow me to say that when it come's to Obesity Surgery, Dr.Harberg is outstanding. He really knows his stuff, and I am so proud to call him MY surgeon. I thank God for him.

I found Dr.Harberg to be open and friendly. He treated my problem with respect and offered suggestions about what to expect from this surgery and the recovery. He was supportive of my having it. He was honest as well about what not to expect-no miracle cures for an unsatisfactory life-the same problems would still be waiting after I lost weight. Went over and over the risks-quizzed me to be sure I understood.
His office staff answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable about asking them.
He speaks quickly but is not impatient about repeating himself.
Aftercare was addressed in reference to my stitches comming out but that will not be until Mon, 11-03 so I will get more information on followup then.
I saw him briefly after the surgery and addressed a problem I had with pain meds not working after surgery. He tried to comment that if I were resting they must be wotking and I told him that waking every 15 in pain was not resting-he changed it and I was fine after that

He terrified me at first. But I now think he is great. He was very blunt at the consult, but right before surgery, he was very reassuring. And his office staff is wonderful. Theyt are very relaxed, and seem to be genuinely concerned about the patients. He is very strict about aftercare. He gives a detailed diet, and expects the client to stick to it.
he was very honest that there is a risk of dying from surgical complications.
Overall, I would say he s wonderful. However, his surgical competence is much better than has bedside manner. But I wanted competence, not someone who would baby me. I have already recommended him to several other people.

I first meet Dr Harberg on May 5th of 2003. Before you can see the doctor you are required to watch a short video where Dr Harberg talks to you about the surgery and what to expect after the surgery. After you watch it you then get to talk to the doctor. I feel like he took a good amout of time telling me what to expect. I also feel like he is honest and trys to make sure that people totaly understand what they are getting into before he goes any futher. I would give him a 9 out of 10. I feel like I had the best.

Dr. Harberg was frank and straight to the point. He has a no nonsense personality mixed with dry wit. I absolutely love him! He informed me of all the risks and changes involved with the surgery. He came to visit me before the surgery to review the process again. He visited regularly after the surgery. His office got me approved through my insurance company within one week of my initial consultation.

Dr. Harberg is a very nice man. He comes across as a grumpy old man, but he just wants you to realize how serious a decision you are making. I thought he could have been a little more on the easy going side but he got to the point and that is what really matters in the end. He also has a very different sense of humor, kind of dry. He has been doing this for over 20 years and knows his stuff. I trust him totally and would recommend him. He is a character! His office staff is WONDERFUL! All the ladies are just as helpful as they can be. He addressed all the questions that I had as well as answered questions that I forgot to ask. Very thorough.

My first impression of Dr. Harberg was that he appeared calm and knew what he was doing. I just adored him right away - there was never a problem through out the two hour interview where I did not feel at ease with him. I think he is extreemly funny and ver y sensitive to the needs of obese people. There is nothing that I did not like about him. Future patients should know that he has excellent credentials. Aftercare was well stressed I think he likes his patients to keep in close contct with him. The risks of surgery are outlined in black and white. He pulls no punches. I would rate him a 10+ I believe both surgical competence and and bedside manner are both important. Dr. Harberg has both in great supply.

I have my first appt. scheduled on May 16, 2003.

Oh my God, I got chilles all over my body when I first walked into Dr. Harberg's office. He looked kind of serious and furious,which made me so uneasy. I wanted to take off running. Although after a few minutes of stan questions and polite answers. I was able to ease up. So the consultation was great. Dr. Harberg knows his stuff. I have no doubt that he is the right guy to tear my body apart and fix my laggage. His staff was so professional especially Mizty who was such a sweet lady. If you are thinking of taking this journey Dr. Harberg is the right Doc. He really emphasized on the aftercare the entire time, inorder to make sure that you understand what you are getting yourself into.
I rate him at a 10.

My first impression of Dr Harberg was that he is very stern. Sure enough he is very stern and he makes sure that you know everything that the surgery entails so that you will make the right decision. Dr Harberg is great and his staff is very friendly and helpful. I absolutely love Mitzy.

If you are considering the VBG surgery I think Dr Harberg is an excellent choice. He has been performing the surgery for awhile and I have heard nothing but good things from his former patients.

He makes sure that you know what you will be expecting after the surgery. He keeps stressing that he did the easy part (surgery) and now the hard part is up to us(aftercare). His aftercare is very structured.

I really like Dr Harberg because he is very direct and I would defintely recommend him to anyone. His is a very competent surgeon and I thought his beside manner was very good after my surgery.
