Weight Loss and Surgery Center Bariatric Center

Dr. Lin was professional and understanding from our first meeting. He was willing to do the revision surgery I needed to have done. As the time went by my impression only improved. He personally telephoned me to let me know that the insurance company had denied the surgery which gave me time to get the appeal process going before they mailed a letter to me. I was denied on 12/13/04 and I had an appeal scheduled for 12/23/04 and an approval before the appeal on 12/22/04. I don't think there is anything I did not like about Dr. Lin we had disagreements as to when I could go home and I did not want a blood tranfusion. I did not like the 7:00 am rounds with his staff. This meant that the med-student was there at 6:00 am. The staff are very good and caring and responsive to you and your needs. The senior resident was upset about my extended stay and stated that I was massing up their length stay. Put she changed after the 2nd surgery. Being a teaching hospital you do have to deal with med-students, interns and residents, but since I have been in their position I under them and was willing to work with them but Dr. Lin always had the final say. Dr. Lin does his own surgery and not the residents. A resident did my surgery in 1982. I found this out when I went to see him for a brest procedure several years later. Future patients should know that he gives his all to ensure that you recover. I feel he is honest with you and is willing to answer your questions. He requires after care. Before he does the surgery you have to sign papers stating that you will follow his instruction and have a long term relationship with him and his staff. This was not a part of my gastric stapling surgery in 1982. He has a structured aftercare program. He was honest about the risks of surgery. We were both suprised when a second blockage was found, but he let me know that anytime you have abdomal surgery that problem can occur. I rate Dr. Lin excellent overall. I was difficult because of the problems that came after the revision surgery. Both were great. He was a great surgican and he was a comfort during those days when I wanted to go home. He came to me personally about the second surgery. He did not take no for an answer when I refused the blood transfusion. Being in the profession I know this was best for me. I do feel that He should have more imput from the Dietetic Staff. A dietitian visited me one day and when she found that I was Dr. Lin's patient she left. Being a dietitan my self and having had surgery patients should know that you can regain weight and they must learn to follow a diet and exercise. Over years the patients I see who have failed seem to think that the surgery was it and life goes own as usual. It does not and working with a dietitian can be helpful. Your life and eating habits must change.

Met with him only one time. Said something to me which at the time I thought was not true until I spoke to others. He mentioned how ones metabolism continues to slow down and how I'm 260 now and in 5 years I'll be 290/300. At the time I didn't want to believe that or hear that cause I thought I was on the smaller size of the surgery patients. But upon talking to 300 plus ladies, so many of them said when they were my age they were my weight and how in the coming years the weight does come on even if you are eating less. His staff is great and I plan on having the surgery GOD WILLING, he is at GW hospital which is one of the best in Washington so I feel safer with his experience of over 3000 patients.

When I first met her I thought she was professional, smart, and caring. Now I am only 12 days out of surgery, but I look forward to more visits with Dr. Lee. she is wonderful. I met with her twice before my actual surgery and trusted her with my life. After surgery I didn't even want to leave the hospital because I wanted to see her and her staff more. She had a student with her the whole time and he was caring and wonderful as well as the others on her team.If I had to do it again.... I would and with no other surgeon but her. ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL.
The only downside was that I didnt really care for the nurses in GWU hopital which is the hopital she uses.

Very personable, and knowledgeable. His office staff is very nice and helpful. They took care of all the insurance paperwork for me. I didn't even have to call the insurance company.
Dr Afram has a strict before and aftercare program. This includes support groups, psych care, nutritionist and exercise physiologist.
On a scale of 0-10, I would rate Dr. Afram and his office staff a 10.
The surgical skill and bedside manner are both excellent.

My first impression of Dr. Lin was that he was very caring, warm personality.
Denise is wounderful person to work with. And Kathy is very careing person and is very easy to work with.
After care is marvlous. Dr. Lin was up front about all the risk of having the surgery nothing was held back he wants his parients to know all the facts about the pors and cons of having the weight loss surgery. I would recomend Dr. Lin to anyone that is searching to have this surgery.

Very good, Dr. Lin explained everything from the start.
It didn't
Excellent
It hard to get an appointment, but he has a Nurse Practitioner named Denise Johnstone, who I see most of the time, who is really good
that the hospital is a teaching place, so you always have a lot of interns looking, but that didn't matter to me.
I was adviced to get into a group in Baltimore were I live.

Dr. Lin's knows his work and is very informative. Although I have not seen him since my surgery, Denise is a very good assistant. His staff is always pleasant. They are meticulous with their aftercare maintenance. Dr. Lin left my painless and healthy.

Wonderful, he seemed very professional and knowlegable. And everything i'd heard about his awesome staff appeared to be true. In the few days since my consult, they've worked hard on getting me approved (yea!) and getting all my pre-op schtuff scheduled.

My opinion of Dr. Afram was that he seemed to be very personable and sincere. From the initial consultation I knew he was right for me. They are very informed and personable as well. Nothing. I think any future patients will agree that he seems to know his stuff. Dr. Afram couldn't have empasize aftercare enough. It is very important to the success of WLS surgery. Dr. Afram has a structured aftercare program. He also emphasizes the risks of surgery (any surgery) not just WLS surgery. I would rate Dr. Afram a 9 on a level of 1 - 10, 1 being the worst. The only thing that could of improved the experience was the size of the office. Not to big. But I can deal with that. I think it is good to have both surgical competence and beside manner.

When I first met him he seemed very nice he explained what the surgery was about showed us a foam sample of a stomach explained where and how the stomach is made into the pouch. The office staff seems great I just have done most of the calls to the office. He does have an after care progam I will write more about it all after I have the WLS. He did go over all risks and said there is always a 1% chance of dead as with all surgeries. Right now I rate him a 5 when I have the surgery I will let you know if it is higher. When I wake up and know I am going to be ok then he will get a 20...LOL :-) will update afterwards
