I like Dr.Kam because he tells it like it is and that is something that i admire. I don't like it when people try to sugar coat everything. Tell it to me raw.

My first impression of Dr. Slikkers was great very down to earth, I have met with him twice now I'm having my surgery this Friday April 14,2006 I can't wait. Dr.Slikkers was straight to the point about this not being a quick fix to weight loss. It will life long. At this point an time I would have to rate him a 10 because I have intrusted him with my life.

Barix is a wonderful palce. It is very welcoming and quite accommodating of people of larger size. The waiting room chairs are huge. Everything else I encountered was quite comfortable and easily manouverable.

Dr. Kam is a very nice man. He was quite thorough. He discussed my medical history and made mention of how some things could be affected by the surgery. He was friendly and easy to talk to. He was relaxed and had a good sense of humour. There was a discrepancy in my file that he picked up on right away and got corrected. Dr. Kam was very straight forward in explaining the surgery and exactly what happens. I am quite confident that I have made the right choice and am happy that Dr. Kam will be my surgeon.

Doctor Featherstone is the best! I went thru the whole surgery day knowing I was in the best hands and was not scared worried or upset. It is so nice to know that your doc is there for you. He has a fantastic bedside manner. The staff at GTS is fantastic too. Aftercare is a big part of there service as they said they are with me for life. Doctor Featherstone told me all the risks not sugar coated either. He tells you as it is which is what I like in a doctor. I do not think there is a better surgeon or team out there.

I had my presurgical consultation with Dr. Kam and was very impressed. He held a small seminar with a few other people and myself and was very informative and spoke to us in language that we all understood, and was very patient with our questions. Then I met with him privately and he explained step by step what would happen and went over my personal information with me. My impression of the Barix Clinic in Ypsilanti is wonderful. Every person that I have dealt with in person or on the phone has been very friendly, competent and helpful. The staff has always gotten back to me quickly when I left a message. I feel very confident with my choice of hospitals and surgeon.

Dr. Kam is very professional and confident, yet warm and caring at the same time. I was very impressed when I saw him repeatedly on the hospital floor post-op, at least several times a day. His genuine confidence and caring reassured me tremendously.

Dr. Kam clearly is well liked by his staff as well, from surgical staff to floor staff. His orders were followed rapidly and reliabily.

Having undergone surgery more than 23 times, starting in early childhood, I can say with confidence that I have never had a more positive experience with staffing than I did at Barix Clinics. Every medicine was delivered quickly and gently, when I was uncomfortable the nursing staff went beyond their duty and were caring. Any call-out was anwsered in just seconds, it seemed. All of the staff members were relaxed and attentive, something I've never experienced in a large hospital. The ward was spotless, thanks to a cleaning staff always there. Thank you Dr.Kam and Barix (Ypsilanti) for such an upbeat and caring experience.

My first impression of Dr. Kam was very good. I was afraid and timid when I first made the appointment and then I was a nervous wreck when I actually went. He made me feel at ease immediately knowing how hard it was to take the first steps. I also feel like the first meeting is informational and you are not necessarily going to "for sure" do anything. He was fantastic at imparting important information without making you feel like it was some sort of sales pitch, which I think a lot of people expect sometimes. I asked him a million questions concerning his qualifications and his personal life. (he is an amazingly qualified, successful surgeon who worked in an emergency trauma center) He made me feel like my health was the most important thing at that moment. Also very thoroughly taking my medical info and telling me things that directly pertained to my situation, and let me know that every person is different. He made me feel like an individual and not just lumped in with everyone with morbid obesity. Frankly, he made me feel like no other doctor has made me feel since I was a kid. Like I was going in a positive direction, and that these problems are more common than most people think. He did not look down his nose at me or tell me to do things that seemed unrealistic. On the contrary, his attitude made me feel like I could really do this. That this was something that would work if I worked it.
The day of the surgery, not only did he make me me comfortable, but he made my entire family feel confident in his abilities as a surgeon and even made them feel confident that I would do extremely well with this. My mom and dad were highly impressed with his bedside manner which is pretty important since my parents are extremely picky and I was really out of it (surgery drugs).

After I had the surgery and have seen him in the office 4 or 5 times now he is complimentary and inspiring which I believe is just inherently part of his personality. He makes a lot of positive statements on how he thinks I'm handling the recovery, excercise and food plan. And it really helps to have all the encouragement you can get from anyone, but especially your doctor I think.

Now, one thing that might bother some people is that he is extremely fast. There is a lot of information to go through and he gets through it as quickly as possible and then you can mull things over. But I can tell you, if there is anything I didn't understand or if I needed more information after my appointment he was more than happy to help me on the phone. Also, a patient counselor could help me.

I really wanted to wait and see how I was doing for a few months before I wrote about him. It's been 5 months and I have lost about 73lbs. I feel good with not too many problems at all. I can truly say that I, as an individual, feel truly cared for overall by my surgeon and the facility.

Dr. Kam was great!! From the first time that I met him I knew he would do great!! For my first trip to Barix clinic Dr. Kam lead me through the total procedure and answered all of the questions I had before I even ask them!! I recieved a call from him during pre-op testing with all the news that I needed to help make my decisions easily!! He also gave me more information!! (Always good to inform a big chicken!) The day of surgery he was in pre-op with my husband and I. Again, filling us with information while they were putting in my IV and getting me ready to go!! He visited me daily and was happy to see my progress and answer any questions I might have!! It was a great exspirience and I would trust him again anytime!!

My first impression of Dr. Slikkers was that he is very nice, good bedside manner, truly cares about the patients and he was very thorough. At 8 months out, he is still all of those things. Some days, I feel like a guineau pig with all the things that have gone wrong but I feel that none of that was the fault of any particular doctor. All people heal differently.
