Oregon Weight Loss Surgery Bariatric Center

Wow! What a surgeon! I cannot recommend her enough. Sweet, caring, busy yet efficient. I like that. I knew that going in I had one of the best in the country and that made all the difference. All of her staff I found to be equally competent and caring.
I think surgical competence is better than bedside manner....even though she has both.
She went over the risks of surgery very thoroughly with me....but because of the research I did beforehand, she was only repeating what I already knew.
There is a support group at Legacy that is chaired by some of her staff that I found immensely helpful. All the "little" stuff that you may be experiencing that you can talk to with other members of the "Lap Club", which I find very educating and sometimes calming.
I have come through with flying colors and would recommend Dr. Patterson to anyone that was considering this surgery.

I feel Dr. Emma Patterson is very knowledgeable. She seems to be kind and caring. Her office staff are kind and helpful. I have been very impressed by the fact that Dr. Patterson wants her patients to be as fit and healthy as possible before surgery. She has a very well rounded plan to ensure this will happen, including: exercise and strength training, diet, mental evaluation (and strongly suggests counseling to help you cope with the changes you go through), lab workup and careful examination.
She also makes sure you realize that there are risks to this or any surgery.
And yes, she emphasized aftercare and the need to keep coming back to the Obesity Institute at regular intervals.
I think that it is important to have both surgical competence as well as a good bedside manner. Because if you don't feel comfortable with your surgeon, things won't go as well. You are partners involved with your health and wellfare, so you had better be at ease with each other!
I haven't had my surgery yet so I can't say for sure how Dr. Patterson will be until after, but so far I have been impressed.

I first met her during the seminar in July of 2003, and finally in May of 2005, I had my surgery. My consult with her was no more than 3 min, she was way behind, I had waited almost 3 hours for that visit. Then during my pre-op apt, I didn't see her at all, I saw Dr. July. About 30 min before surgery I saw her again, she asked if I had any questions, and I had none, I was so nervous by then! Then I saw her on my 2nd night in the hospital where she checked my wounds and answered some questions, and then again the next morning when I was being released. I like her a lot, but I feel like she is always in a rush. Although in her defense, the day of my consult was her first day back after maternity leave, she had twins! She is very good at what she does and thats why I chose her and I don't regret that one bit! I came through with flying colors, my scars are healing well and I couldn't be happier.

Dr. Patterson is very straight forward and professional. In my opinion, she is the best in her field. I spoke to other surgeons, INAMED and CIGNA and they all had great things to say about her.
Her staff was very helpful and I especially like Dr. July!
I would recommend Dr. Patterson to anyone considering WLS.

When i first met Dr. Patterson i was suprised with her accent. She is from Canada. It only takes a couple of minutes around her to realize her passion for what she is doing. That alone makes you feel so comfortable. She will ask all questions in a matter you can understand. Very very knowlegdefull!!! I call her a little spit fire. Her staff is always there to help. I do not think i had to ever call them more than once before they called me. which is an unsual thing in the medical feild. I would do it all over again and i recomend her all the time. have any questions feel free to e-mail me.

I contacted Dr. Patterson's patient coordinator, Leasa Keene a couple of weeks ago and was scheduled for an information seminar, which will be presented by Dr. Hong (I am assuming Dr. Patterson's assistant physician maybe?). I will soon find out...My appointment is for Dec. 7th!!! A first step of many…Oh! I just found out today that Dr. Patterson is still taking new patients and that she is having twins at the end of January…! The receptionist told me that she will be back sometime in March…I hope so! I wish her well.

I have attended Dr. Patterson's information seminar. I was so very happy that Dr. Patterson was the one there to give us all the information! Dr. Patterson met all of my expectaions. She is very approachable, and down to earth. She will be back in April from maternity leave so I will plan to start all of my testing next month (if I get approval to do so) so that I will be ready to set a surgery day this spring hopefully! I am very pleased not only with Dr. Patterson, but with the hospital she works with and their bariatric unit as well.

A little intimidated.
After I got to know her I was impressed by her professionalyism and attention to detail.
Dr Patterson's staff is absolutely wonderful! they are always helpful and courteous. Most are in some stage of the wieght loss journey so are able to relate to the patients.
Nothing.
She is willing to do almost anyting to help people change their lives. She will make absolutely sue you are a suitable candidate before she will schedule you for surgery. This assurance helps make sure of your longterm success.
She follows up for 2 years after surgery with office visits every six months after the first yeare and with blood work with each ofice visit.
Yes
Excellent.
Both are great.

Dr. Patterson is very passionate about helping people. She is highly skilled and informative pre-operatively and post-operatively. Her office staff is very well educated in how to deal with insurance companies and enjoys getting to know the patients and treats each of us as an individual.
Dr. Patterson sees all of her post-op patients once a month for the first year and then regularly for the next several years. As part of the program she sends her patients to a dietitian to help with food plans. She emphasizes small portions, protein, vegetables, and then salad for the eating style.
I have much confidence in her ability as a surgeon. She is easy to talk with, direct, and has a great sense of humor and compassion.
I would recomend her to anyone in the state of Oregon. She has been great to work with.

She is very straight-forward... not the sensitive mushy type. Appears to be a very good surgeon and obviously puts a great amount of value in her success rate with patients, and therefore is strict in selection. While her office staff are all nice, sometimes it's hard to get all the information you need and information is not always consistant between different parties.

Dr. Patterson is an amazing woman who is dedicated to making a positive difference in those who have suffered with obesity. She is easy to talk to and has a good "bedside manner." She is a kind, compassionate women and at no time do you feel any shame for being overweight. There is no question that is too small for her to answer. In fact she goes out of her way to answer questions before they are asked. The more I get to know her the more I like her as a person and a doctor.
The staff at the Oregon Clinic are as amazing as Dr. Patterson. They are informative, compassionate, friendly, and supportive. From the first phone call I have been treated with the utmost respect and dignity. The first time I went into the office, the front office staff (the two Lisa's) brightly claimed that it was them I spoke to on the phone. I am treated like a person...an individual, never a number. I cannot say enough about how great all the staff is.
I suppose the most important thing to know about Dr. Patterson is that she is careful about surgery. She does not take any risks and will expect a patient to deal other medical problems before surgery. In my case, I have to lose 20 pounds before I can have surgery because she wants my BMI below 60. I also had to have an ultrasound to check on my gallbladder because I had a problem in March that might have been related. She is not a "band-aid" or "quick fix" surgeon. If the patient is looking to get surgery done fast then the patient will possibility not be happy with all the expectations Dr. Patterson demands of her patients.
Dr. Patterson's office offers both pre-op and post-op support groups. She wants to have regular follow-ups and know what is going on. A patient can expect a visit in the hospital or a phone call post-op from the surgery coordinator.
The program expects the patient to attend an information session where all the risks are discussed in detail. Dr. Patterson is careful to cover all aspects of the surgery including the pros and cons. Also there are the support groups where pre-op patients can ask questions of post-op patients.
I feel very confident in everyone at the Oregon Clinic. I feel very blessed to be in such good hands. God answered a prayer I didn't even know to ask for...
