My first impression of Dr. Patterson is that she is extremely knowledgable about bariatric surgery, weight loss and the patients themselves. She has a very detailed program, with many hoops to go through before and after surgery. While I know they were for my own benefit, I didn't appreciate them at all. I never doubted her and her abilities for a second. I didn't have a single complication.
Her staff is very upbeat. No problems with them either.
What I like least about her is that she is so busy, you may have to see a one of the "fellows" in the practice for fills, etc.
Dr. Patterson has a strong emphasis on aftercare. There are monthly support meetings, dietician appointments and of course, follow-ups with her that you must attend.
I would give her the highest rating as a surgeon.

**7-2-04 Have changed to Dr. Patterson since I am having the RNY I wanted to have a Dr. who has done more then 200+ surgeries. She has done I guess around 500. I met her she was nice kinda quite, I didn't get the warm fuzzies but I hear she is an excellent surgeon which is what I need.

RE: Dr. Hong, I had met him before at the Information seminar. He seems nice, a bit quite. I am not too happy that he didn't ask me more questions then I asked him. I would think he should because he should make sure I am a good candidate for this surgery. I went in to meet him to find out about Lap-Band, and when I left it sounded like RNY was a better choice for me. I really don't think so since my BMI is barely 40. I will be meeting with Dr. Patterson for consult also, she is the main Doctor there. Not that he's a bad doctor I just want someone more experienced when I decide which surgery I will be having.

I spend almost a year studying the surgery and the doctors available. Based on my research Dr. Patterson was widely considered the best in the country. Everything I have experineced confirms that.

She has been extemeely professional, friendly, and is always happy to provide answers to any questions.

I really respect the "hoops" that she requires us to go through. By the time I had surgery, I was confident that I was a prime candidate and had the test results to back it up.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Patterson. She really knows her stuff. She is so knowledgable and personable. I love the fact that she really emphasizes long term aftercare. It takes awhile to get to see her and have the surgery, but it is so worth the wait. If you want a surgeon that is surgically competent and has a nice bedside manner this is the one. She is one of the leaders in this field.

I am in the information gathering phase at this point. I was referred to Dr. Patterson by my primary care physician who assured me that Dr. Patterson is thourough and skilled, with an excellent program of pre and post surgery support to help assure permanent weight loss. I have attended the required preliminary informational session and found Dr. Patterson to be knowledgeable and sympathetic.

My first impression was that she was top notch. She has the indoctrination process down, starting with an informational session, and the "hurdles" of meeting the Doctor's and insurance companies requirements.

Her office staff is pretty good.

Doctor Patterson's whole focus on this process is that the surgery is a tool -- the real work is after the surgery.

I found Emma to be very professional. But I also felt her to be very concerned for my well being. Everyones well being. My first contact with her was during her informational session. There was no question in my mind that she knew what she was doing and she was top notch. None of this has changed, I still would recommend her to anyone. Her office staff could learn to practice privacy with regards to conversations that they have at the counter.
When you sign on with Emma, you sign on for life. The program is still evolving, but the foundation is definately there and improvements are always being made. I thought her competence and bedside manner was very high.

I guess I know the other people in Dr. Patterson's office better than I know Dr. Patterson. Just met her three times - once in the orientation, once in the Consultation and then once at the surgery. But, I certainly had checked her out. She has amazing credentials and being young makes me feel comfortable that she is on top of all the latest advances in this type of surgery. Competetence was of utmost importance to me.

I felt really comfortable with her, however, in each of the personal meetings and I was very impressed with her knowledge. She seemed to be in a hurry at the Consultation, but she took the time to answer my questions. It will be interesting to see how my aftercare goes.

Sonya, her PA, spent the most time with me and was very generous with her time and answered all my questions. She seems very busy.

The two Lisas in her office are very busy but very helpful and supportive. I guess it depends on your attitude going in - patience and compassion are truly virtues to have. I came on board with all my paperwork when they were moving to their new offices, and despite the confusion, we worked out getting everything together. I really felt that they were looking out for me.

I would highly recommend Dr. Patterson and her staff. Dr. Bertleson was an awesome anesthesiologist (I had had some previous problems), as well. Legacy Good Sam was absolutely terrific and the nurses were ALL top notch.

Dr. P was great. I had to wait for 2 hours to see her, but in the long run of my life, 2 hours isn't that long. She has got to have the MOST SUPPORTIVE office staff in the world!!!! They are all wonderful. They didn't seem to be bothered by my calling every few days for a month. They even began to know my voice over the phone and when i said 'Keri' the knew who i was. I didn't even have to say my last name. Guess i really was a pain in the butt!!

The on thing I would have to say about dr. p's program is be willing to wait. it takes a while to get into the seminar, to do all the pre-op testing and see her. but once all that is done, surgery is quickly around the corner. i was approved from my insurance company and was offered a surgery date only 2 weeks later.
