Phillip Huber, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center

thought he was very competent he was the chief of surgery at the hospital she had surgery at. he did not require any preop testing. thought that was unusal but because he was chief of surgery did not question that.

My first telephone call to Dr. Huber's office was very good. I spoke to Debbie and after some research she was able to find out that they were in my network and she scheduled my appointment with me right then and there.
~~~~~~August 21, 2001~~~~~~
I met with Dr. Huber today. He was very personable and frank about EVERYTHING. He discussed possible risks and concerns about having the surgery. He drew diagrams of what exactly he would be doing and he gave me lots of articles and other materials pertaining to my new diet and lifestyle coping with the surgery.
He suggested that I have a sleep study and my thyroid tested.
~~~~~~September 18, 2001~~~~~~
I am waiting on the results of my sleep study. They should be ready today. My thyroid test came back okay. After I get my results they will send my information to my insurance company for approval. KEEP ME IN YOUR PRAYERS!

I saw Dr. Huber for my initial consult in June. He was very professional and knowledgeable. I was impressed with his demeanor. His personality was great--a real hoot with a bowtie! Debbye,his nurse,has been quite helpful and eager to answer my numerous questions!
WOW! I am two weeks post op. tomorrow-the 19th. My surgery was successful and with no hitches. Dr. Huber has taken extrememly good care of me. His bedside manner is warm and caring. I am blessed to have him on my side. He is the best!!!!

He is great. Very thorough. Completely spelled everything out on my office visit. Answered all my questions. Explained post-op requirements as far as vitamins, etc.
His staff has been very helpful. Sent in information to insurance immediately, and was great about following up and keeping me posted.
There is a support group.
All risks of surger were addressed in full. Clear explanations that were easy to understand, as well as written information

I really liked Dr. Huber from the 1st visit. He made me feel like I was important and he would do what he could to help. I really love his staff the receptionist is a Saint and his nurse is very helpful and ready to answer any questions that I might have. During the first visit he told me what to expect after surgery and about the side effects.

Well, I finally got to go meet my future surgeon. I went into his office armed with everything I could think of to help get my insurance to give the green light. I am still waiting to hear from Aetna. I liked the staff. Due to some good new friends I felt like I knew them. Dr Hubers nurse Debbye is very competent which helped me, though I am concerned at the time it takes to get the dictation back to submit to the insurance.
I loved Dr Huber. His bow tie makes you very comfortable. He was a gentle guy and I felt as if I was being treated like a human being not just another poor fat woman. That made it very easy for me to ask questions,but even better to get me to listen. he held nothing back and appears very confident that I am a great canidate for his RNYGB procedure. He went over every detail, and possible problems of which he felt I wouldn't have to worry about. His bedside manner was a 10+ and his sense of humor was fantastic. I really gotto cutting up with him since he was so taken with my purple and blue toe nail polish. He was also great with my husband David. he liked my DR and that makes him feel better going into this.
I like that he emphasized after care and getting support.he runs 2 monthly meetings and I hope to find a patch of folks post op from his flock I feel good about learning from. I already am blessed as I have 2 surgery angels and a fine list I learn from though I would like to find an additional group to get to email with.I thank God, I made a couple of friends that have journeyed before me that also sing the praises of Dr Huber. I don't think it is listed on here,but some one may want to know that Dr Huber is on the list of Aetna providers and has a fairly high approval rate.
lastly I was impressed with DR Hubers mortality rate with the patients from this procedure.Which was only one.Another single patient developed a corinary ambilism but did not die. I feel very good about this DR. doing my procedure which can not be approved or come about quick enough. Here I go gang, the journey begins. Please Lord help Aetna approve me and all of the others awaiting approval. TTFN.

Haven't meet him yet I have an appointment for March 23,2001.
UPDATE: I really like him he was down to earth and made me feel really comfortable. My husband liked him also. He took his time and I liked that he didn't make me feel rushed.(most doctors do)
My first impression of his staff wasn't all that good. I hope this changes because I did like him.
Update: 4/6/01 I called to see if they had sent off the insurance papers and they were very very rude to me, but it's not going to stop me. They said they would try to send them out today. I WILL CALL AGAIN.
Update: 4/12/01 I called again today and they said that they mailed them yesterday 4/11/01 and the lady I talked to today was very nice.

Dr. Huber is the BEST in all respects. He is
an absolute JOY to meet and talk to. He has a
great bedside manor and truly wants to help
you resolve your weight issue. I have come to
love and respect him more and more over time.
His office and staff are great and work hard
to help you with getting approval from your
insurance company. There is nothing that I
like least about him. Patients should know
that he appears as a Nerd with a big bow tie, but
he will become your doctor and a friend. He
actively emphasizes aftercare both in diet,
getting enough protein, taking vitamins, and
doing exercise. He fully discusses the surgery
and its risks and tells about the failures. I
would rate him an A++ or 100 ++. He is the
best. Both bedside manner and surgical competence
are execellent. He wants to see you the rest
of your life to follow-up with how you are
doing and how he can help you with your eating
demons and to achieve your weight goal.
The only negative thing was the nursing care
at Zale-Lipshy Hospital - I was on the oncology
wing and the nurses did not know what to do with
a gastric bypass surgery patient. They only
came when I called them and most could not speak
english well. Dr. Huber normally operates
at St. Paul Hospital but performed my surgery
at Zale-Lipshy Hospital because of my insurance
coverage there and he has operating priveleges
there.
Even though Blue Cross/Blue Shield says that
Gastric Bypass Surgery is covered, do NOT have
the claim files under an "Obesity" code - the
insurance company will kick out all claims and
you have to appeal each and every claim.
