Roxanne Davenport, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center
I liked Dr. Davenport the first time I met her. She and her staff are really great and have been very helpful to me. I can't think of nything bad to say about Dr. Davenport and her staff because they haven't done anything that I disliked. I would highly recommend Dr. Davenport to anyone that is thinking about having the surgery. She takes the time to talk to you and explain the surgery. She certainly answered all the questions that I had and she still does. She fully explained the risks of the surgery to me and what I was going to be in store for. As for aftercare they have taken good care of me and if I have a question or a problem with anything all I have to do is call her and if I can't speak with her right then she calls me back as soon as she possibly can. I would rate Dr. Davenport 110%! She's an excellent surgeon and her bedside and office manner are both great.
Roxanne Davenport is the greatest surgeon in the Carilion network. She is incredible all the way around. I had my surgery a year ago this month. That's hard to believe! I have seen Dr. Davenport about 3 times since then. Every time, we have rejoiced in my success! She knows me, she's interested in me, and she truly cares about my progress.
I love her office staff. I feel they have gone above and beyond to make this surgery a reality for me.
Dr. Davenport is young and dynamic, and she's a mom. That was really important to me. She understood that I needed to do this surgery for my family.
She definitely addresses the risks of surgery. Anyone who does this surgery, and doesn't believe there are risks, is someone who definitely should NOT do it. There are risks, you can die, but I felt I would die if I didn't do it.
This doctor gets 110% out of a 100! She's amazing. She saved my life.
Today, I weigh 125lbs. This surgery was a tool to a healthier lifestyle. Thanks Dr. Davenport, you have saved my life!
I met with Dr. Davenport for the first time today (Dec. 2, 2003). She was very helpful and went into great deal about the pros and cons of having the surgery. Also, the changes that will take place after the surgery. I hope to have my surgery in February. Future patients should feel at ease with her. She is very down to earth and really takes the time to make you feel comfortable.
Dr. Davenport is AWESOME! Not only is she a great surgeon, but she is also a great person. She really cares about her patients and theri families. She told us what to expect, what could happen and she was so down to earth, I felt like I could talk to her about anything. Her staff is wonderful. Very encouraging and kind. JB who handles the insurance info is amazing. Dr. Davenport has a great bedside manner and I have and will continue to reccommend her to anyone considering this surgery. I really belive that this surgery and Dr. Davenport saved my life.
My first impression of Doc, as she is called in her office by her staff and patients was very good, she seemed very knowledgeable about all aspects of the surgery, and after care, that my friend and I could think to ask. My impression of her over time has only improved of her and her nurse, Deblyn also, thy both are so personable, and really seem to care how you are doing, in all aspects of your life. The rest of her staff is good too!! Her associate Drs are almost as nice as her. I don't know of anything I can think of that I don't like about her. The only thing I have run into is if I need her on the weekend or holidays, it always seems to be her weekend off, so I end up talking to one of the other Drs. But they try and help too, I just prefer to talk to her.
One thing all future patients should know about Doc and Deblyn is they do NOT mind you asking questions of any kind, if they are extremly busy and say they will call you back THEY DO CALL BACK !
Doc does emphasize aftercare but not as structured as it could be, she cautions you on overeating and eating the wrong things, etc. but the rest of the aftercare except for followup checkups is really referred to a support group which meets once a month. But she always tells you at each checkup,if you need her to not hesitate to call.
I fell Doc explained the risks of the surgery, BUT I didn't know enough about the surgery to know what questions to ask, so there has been a lot of adjusting to get to, it may have been I blocked anything out that may have sounded negative, about the surgery before it then it all hit. I wanted to be very positive going into surgery, so I wouldn't have a bad experience, and would recover fast I didn't think about the bad quite as much as I should have.
I would rate Doc as a very great doctor overall, she is well thought of at the hospital by other doctors and nurses and other hospital staff. I know this because I have family that works at the hospital and a very best friend who is a nurse there too. Also other friends and family have made comments that when they as their doctors about her they have only heard good comments.
I feel that for a doctor to be good, great overall it taked both surgical competence and bedside manner. I know I have had an surgery done by another doctor who had very poor bedside manner towards me and my family, and I have refused to see them again and told others also.
These are just my feelings, I don't mean to sound like Doc is perfect, I'm sure she's not, I guess I just like her because she has shown me the care and attention I have needed when I needed her. I highly reccommend her !!!!!!!
Dr. Dallal was super nice and was very knowledgable when it came to the ds and surgery in general. The staff was very nice also and didn't act like I was just another fat person walking in, desperate for help. They were curteous and pleasant. Everyone was up front about the risks of surgery and that my success depends on the amount of work I am willing to put into my weightloss. The down side, in my opinion, is that you have to pay over $4500 up front for the after care. That's a lot of money considering there are some surgeons who do not charge this fee. If I had to rate Dr. Dallal and the staff by my first visit, I'd have to say that so far they are a 7 (I took away a point for the $4500). That number could go up or down as I have more appointments. By the way, Dr. Quebbemenn (who performs the rny's and, I think, started the program in Newport) is a total hottie! He looks like Julian McMahon, the guy who played "Cole" on "Charmed".
Dr. Davenport is a very caring and concerned physician. There was not anything I didn't like about her. The office staff was wonderful. I tell Dr. Davenport all the time that she is my "HERO". I have all the confidence in the world in her surgical ability, but most importantly she is truly a special doctor. She sees her patients as individual real people with real problems and she wants to help them. I have only experienced such a bond and deep trust in one other doctor in my life. Doctors are a dime a dozen, but to find one that listens to you and one that treats you like you're their only patient is far and few.
She was very informative about the risk of this surgery and what I should expect afterwards. It's been 16 months since the gastric bypass & I still speak with her and her office staff regularly. I go by to weigh, visit with her and the staff, and to show off the new me. It always gives me a boost to keep on the right track, plus I just enjoy saying hi to Dr. Davenport (my "HERO") and I thank her everytime I see her. I feel as if Dr. Davenport, Deb Lynn (her nurse), Leslie (insurance clerk), JB (scheduling nurse), Joyce (receptionist), and everyone are family. They geninuely care about their patients. There are not enough words to describe how highly I feel about her as a surgeon or as a friend. I feel that after all she has been through with me that she is my friend. I have no negative comments, the statement I have just made is directly from my personal experience with Dr. Davenport.
Dr Daveport impressed me from the firt time I met her. She truly cares about each patient and gives them all of the time needed to answer questions. The day of my surgery, I was very emotional in pre-op and she just held my hand and said that everything is going to me ok. Her intern, Joe Brown, was really nice too!
Deblyn, Dr Davenport's nurse is awesome, she called me the day before my surgery just to see how i was feeling. I think that Dr Daveport's furute patients should know that from talking with several people, she is not only skilled, but one of the most compassionate doctors that I know.
My first impression of her was wonderful. She treated me like i was a person not just fat.
My impression of her now is the same as it was.
I enjoy talking to her office. I know people there and they know me. There is only one person what is not nice--joyce
I don't like anything about joyce.
She is WONDERFUL. I will let you know more after my surgery is done.
She talks in length with me about aftercare.
Yes she describe an aftercare program with me and let me put some input to it to make it mine.
I really related to her because she was about the same age as me and i work for a doctors office.
Both are great but like i said i will let you know more after the surgery. i want to update since i have had surgery. i love my doctor, she is the best thing. i always felt welcome in her office and always felt like she cared about me. she never judged me for being fat she just excepted me for me. that is a good feeling. so i want to thank dr davenport for saving my life. i can say i would not be alive if it wasn't for her doing this surgery on me. thank you again.
She was younger than I thought but appears to be very intellgent. She answered all
my questions and went over all aspects of the surgery. She also showed how the surgery
was done on a diaphram. Her nurse was wonderful, very friendly and you felt comfortable with her. Dr. Davenport asked a lot of questions getting all my medical history and she wants to talk to my cardiologist. The insurance papers are going in now and when the surgery is approved
I will meet her nutritionist who will go over
what to expect after surgery. She does have two support groups which was something I looked for in researching a surgeon.
