Roxanne Davenport, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center
Well I had to change my doctor to Dr Davenport I just met her and she is great all though I have already had my surgery and Dr. lucktong did it I could no longer see him we just had gotten off on the wrong foot I guess you could say after surgery but Dr. Davenport is great I am so glad she took me on She explained lots of the things to me and for that I love her she said that I could always call her and that there are no stupid questiong being only 6 weeks post op I still am having some problems but I am sure glad to have her
I HAVE KNOWN DR. DAVENPORT FOR A WHILE AND MY WIFE AND I SIMPLY LOVE HER. SHE GAVE ME THE OPTION OF USING ANOTHER SURGEON AND HAVE A "LAP" BYPASS DONE BUT I OPTED FOR HER AND AN "OPEN" PROCEDURE. HER NURSE IS GREAT ALSO, A REAL CARING PERSON. BOTH OF THEM TAKE THE TIME TO LISTEN TO WHAT YOU ARE SAYING. MY WIFE AND I CAN NOT RECCOMEND HER ENOUGH.
I met Dr. Davenport today. She was so nice. I arrived at the office a little late because I don't know Roanoke very well. When I arrived the receptionist said that she had been trying to call me to cancel the appt. because Dr. Davenport had been is emergency surgery this morning. Since they couldn't get me, she said that the doctor was going to see me anyway, since she had just arrived at the office from the hospital. A nurse took me back and weighed me, took my blood pressure and asked some questions. She took me to a room, told me what to do and what the doctor would do. Dr. Davenport came in and was very easy to talk to. She seems to genuinely care about people and asked me lots of questions. She answered all of mine satisfactorily. I then had a conference with her in another room, where she explained the different procedures and answered all of my questions. She was very honest and told me about possible complications and her track record with patients. She took me out to a secretary to schedule the post-op work, the psychologist visit and the visit with the dietician. I cannot stress how very nice everyone was at this practice. I feel confident that they will do anything they can to help me. I told them my insurance was Carilion and they said there should be no problem getting everything okayed. Dr. Davenport even said that we want to make sure we do everything right so that I don't get stuck with a bill and that it was an expensive surgery. She was pleased that I had done a lot of research before reaching my decision and said that the dietician would go over all of the changes in eating habits I would have to make. She also told me about patients who "beat" the surgery, etc. She was very honest and upfront.
Dr. Davenport is a very caring person who emphasises every step of the surgery. She took the time to sit down with me and answer any questions I had and to draw a detailed drawing of what would happen during surgery. She told me everything that would happen to me even when I was asleep. While I was in the hospital she and her residents were very attentive and caring. I don't think there was anything that I didn't like about her. She was always reassuring yet very honest and always acted like I was her only patient and she had time for me. Her aftercare so far has been visits from the dietician 2 times in the hospital, staples taken out and check-up 8days post-op where she asked how I was doing, examined me, and answered any questions I had and addressed any problems I was having. Then I went back 2 weeks later for a check-up and again she sat and talked with me about my progress and food intake, activity level, etc. Her office staff is good. Her nurse Marty is wonderful. Keep a check with the insurance process though, they get busy and you have to prod them sometimes. There is also a support group for her patients and another Dr's along with anyone else in the area dealing with the surgery and surrounding issues that meets once a month, and the dietician runs the meetings and is on cal every day all day and is wonderful, too. I believe that both surgical competence and bed side manner are important and in Dr. Davenport's case she has both. Overall I would rate Dr. Davenport a 9.5 and she will be a perfect 10 as soon as she gets a scale that will weigh me!:)
Meet with Dr. Davenport today for the second time for my pre-op appt. She is one of only two nice doctors I have ever meet. I feel comfortable with her and I feel she understands where I am coming from. She was eager to answer any questions I had. I put my faith in her to help me start my new life.
I am having to self pay due to that isurance thing and her office has worked with me to set up payments, they are great.
