My first impression of Dr. Shapiro was that he was a no nonsense kinda guy. Straight to the point. Like he was reading his questions out of a book. I was obvious he had gone thru these first meetings many many time. He new what he was talking about and wasn't afraid to scold you if you gave him the wrong answer. The second time I met him He was more like a Dr. Still no personality though. At the time of surgery I had some complications. I had heard his bed side manner wasnt anything to write home about but you know I thought he was great. He made me feel good and seemed to really care how I was. Saw him 2 to 3 times everyday. I was there 8 days total. I even got a hug from him the day I left. He is defenently one of those doctors who has to get to know you. I liked him I would recomend him to anyone who was looking to have gastric bypass surgery open.

I have not actually had my meeting with him yet but had worked several years on the floor that he send the patients after surgery/ He is very in depth and focussed with his patients. Wants to know everything. Can sometimes be critical of the nurses but he is only looking out for the best interest of the patient. Truelly respectable person.

I thought Dr Shapiro was a very serious guy, and I think that he is very professional. He wats to make sure you know what you are doing and that you are very committed to the aftercare and follow up appointments. He said he will be seeing you once a year for the rest of your life. They are very structured with their testing, schedules..everything. And the best part, his nurse, Karen, kept me informed of everything that was going on and when a new step was taken. I am soo happy with him already! I have a very positive outlook on this!!

My first impression was that he is very serious about what he does. Which is an ok thing, just a bit intimating. After talking with him, that is what puts you at ease, is that he does know what he is doing, and takes it very serious, hecares very much about what he does.

Karen is wonderful. She realizes that you have a hundred and one questions and is ready to answer a hundred and two.

My first impression,I was to nervous! All in all he is a very good surgon. He was very infomative about the surgery and its risks. The staff are all so helpful and caring they are there to answer all your questions what you may think is a dumb one is'nt one after all. They all want to make sure you come to your appt.'s as they do stress its importance, and it is. I'm just so glad to have had a good surgon.

I meet Dr Shapiro and Karen on two sepperate occasions at their WLS seminars. I felt he explained everything you need to know to start the process and preperation for the surgery. He explains the operation and the risks of having the surgery in great detail. He was very informative about his aftercare program to watch over your progress or problems should they arise.I have had two consults with him so far. He is a very soft spoken professional. He makes sure you understand the plus's and minus's of this procedure. My opinion of Dr Shaprio in the two years that I have had contact with him or his staff has not changed.I feel very comfortable with him as my surgeon. I would recommend him to anyone in the area. As for his staff they do a fantastic job. They are behind you every step of the way. I will have to let you know more about his bedside manner in hopefully a few weeks. But I feel confident my opinion will not change.

My first impression of Dr. Shapiro at the informational meeting didn’t change after I personally met him for the first time at my initial consult. He is very detailed and thorough. He spent a lot of time explaining both the pros and cons of WLS. Asked me lots of questions and answered all of mine. I feel very confident with him. He is very serious – I for one wouldn’t be comfortable with a jokester, as this is very serious business. I am putting my life and future in his hands.

I met Dr. Shapiro on 1/7/03. My impression was that I find him very easy to talk to. He is very knowledgeable, experienced, was a good listener, and very patient. He has been doing gastric bypass surgeries since 1973, and does about 200 a year. I had a list of 30 questions to ask him and he took the time to go through each question and give me his answer. He insists on a strict aftercare program and makes sure you understand all aspects of this surgery. I feel very safe and reassured after talking to him about this. His assistants were very efficient and made you feel very special. I have no negative comments. My experience during our initial meeting was very positive for me.
