The Hamptons Center for Weight Loss Surgery Bariatric Center

My first impression of Dr. Allam was a very positive one. He was very pleasant and informative. He was very encouraging, positive and sensitive to obesity issues. I was very pleased with my experience at Southhampton Hospital and felt very well cared for. Unfortunately, I had several complications related to my gastric bypass surgery that were unidentifed initially by Dr. Allam and I had to seek medical assistance elsewhere. Following my surgery I was having greater and greater difficulty breathing. Dr. Allam did not identify any problems on my followup visits. I was admitted to Mather Memorial Hospital where they identified a spleen trauma from the surgery that lead to pneumonia. I then began to progress in my recovery and consistently made my followup visits with Dr. Allam. After approximately 8 months post op I began to have negative symptoms including; shakiness, frequent vomiting, lightheadedness; drops in blood sugar and drops in blood pressure. Dr. Allam did not relate these symptoms to the Gastric Bypass Surgery. I contacted the America Board of Bariatric Surgery (I believe that is their title, Dr. Allam is a member) and they informed me that they believed my symptoms were a severe form of the Dumping Syndrome. I brought this email to Dr. Allam who stated that he did not agree. Over several months of deterioration I was hospitalized again at Mather Memorial Hospital, I could not function and had to stop working. Their a gastroenterologist diagnosed me with severe Dumping Syndrome and began Sandostatin Therapy. I then changed my surgeon to Dr. Herron at Mt. Sinai Medical Center who was absolutely wonderful and was informed and knowledgable about my symptoms and complications. I also began to see Dr. Saha in Manhattan for Sandostatin treatment follow-up and care. Over the next year I made tremendous progress and resumed living again. Four years post op and I continue to be followed by these great doctors in Manhattan. I have had a full body lift subsequently and am doing well and look better than I could have thought possible. I would suggest to those of you considering gastric bypass surgery to research well and take this endeavor very seriously. A surgeons knowledge of complications and interventions necessary for these complications may be critical, in my case it was. I truly was grateful to Dr. Allam at the beginning of my journey but unfortunately that did not end up being the case. I believe if I did not have serious complications my experience would have been extremely positive. I want to be clear that these are my personal impressions of my personal experience and in no way is a negative endorsement of Dr. Allam as my general experience was a very positive one, and the surgeon in Manhattan who reviewed my medical file believed my surgery to have been done very well and that my body just had a bad reaction to it. Everyone's experience and assessment is a very personal one and one can not base one's decision on another's unique experiences.

I felt secure that he was a competant doctor. He is a very good surgeon and takes his work very seriously. I feel he truly cares about all of his patients & will do everything he can to help us. His office staff are awesome!! They are wonderfully friendly & also will do everything they can to help us!!! Sometimes he is a little hard to understand but is always willing to explain things if asked. His aftercare & monthly support group are great (he leads the support group himself!!). The literature his patients receive prior to surgery is quite informative & easily understood. The risks are clearly defined and his patients have to write him a letter showing that the risks and post-op requirements are understood. I rate him as one of the best bariatric surgeons available anywhere!!! His surgical competence & reputation far outweigh any other factors there may be. I am also comfortable with his bedside manner; especially having getting to know him better at our support group meetings. He truly cares about us & has a sense of humor too!!

Dr. Allam is wonderful. His coordinator Nenette is a very special person who has been an excellent resource and kept me motivated in the process of getting the work up completed and the procedure approved. She always makes me feel like she cares. I currently live in Florida but the Insurance my husband has is Vytra and in order to be in Network everything must be done in NY. Despite this obstacle Nanette helped me through it.After getting my clearance process completed I had an approval in 2 hours, yes 2 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The consults I needed with the other medical disciplines seemed a bit much, but looking back I can see the need for them. Everyone that Dr. Allam referred me to was great.I give Dr. Allam and his program 100% in satisfaction. They are great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dr. Allam is the one person who reached out to me in my time of need. He is a wonderful person and truly cares about each and everyone of his patients. His record of success stands above the rest. His staff is wonderful and works very closely to get approval from insurance companys and to meet all his patients wants and needs. They have a staff nutritionist, support meetings, a website with patient message board. He is number one in my book.

I chose to see Dr. Allam when I was ready to take this plunge!
We live in a small town, and everyone waould tell me.."You aren't going into the city for this?" I never quite understood that mentality.
I wanted to be close to home, andI had heard really good things about Dr. Allam....So off I went.
I had 3 people come wit me for that consult... and he had no problem with that... we ALL asked questions and bombarded him... he stayed very cool and answered everything we asked.
The more I got to know him , the kinder and sweeter he has become
The one thing you may need to do whe you see him, is to slow him down as he speaks... he does have an accent, and speaks rather quickly... but he explains that to you in the begining and urges you to slow him down if need be.
The office handles EVERYTHING as far as insurance....it is quite a pleasure. And there is a woman there.. her name is Nanette.... sweetest woman on ht planet.. and is 1.5 years post -op with Dr. Allam.... and knows everything we need to know!!
After care is crucial! We have a monthly meeting with a very large group..which Dr. Allam attends every time... and we also run smaller more intimate groups once a week with our therapist that is also in attendance at the larger meeting.
Before you get a surgery date... you receive a package of pages that explain in full detail about the risks that may occur. We have to initial every one , sign it, and have it notorized...as well as writing a letter to Dr/ Allam explaining out procedure and the risks. That too must be notorized as well
I adore this man..... the time he takes with us and throws us christmas parties and summer parties..I mean .. what Dr. Does that for his patients??He has a good heart and is beyond skilled!
He even takes time out of his busy life to go to 3rd world countries once a year and preform surgeries as well as teach their Dr.s! That is a true wonderful human being~~
I coul dnot say enough great things about this man, or his staff. May God bless them ALL!

Very knowledgable & businesslike
Became more friendly
Office staff outstanding
I cant think of anything I like least about him.
He came highly recommended by several of my co-workers who had the surgery.
Dr Allam has a support group every month.
He questioned my research and made sure I was aware of all risks.
So far, so good. Will know more after actual procedure is done.

Dr. Allam was very professional and compassionate. My impression has not changed . His office staff offer great assistance to patients. There is no least: unless you count telling you the truth no matter what. He is the best in laproscopic surgery and does surgery for free in third world countries each year, especially for women and children. There is no one better to perform your bariatric surgery. GREAT emphasis on aftercare with attendance by surgeon himself and office staff plus nutritionist and psychologist. Monthly meetings. Strongly suggested by staff that you attend.
Yes, there is material greatly detailed to read about possible complications, including death, and all possible side effects discussed clearly and plainly for you to understand.
Rate: excellent overall
Surgical capability greater than bedside but available by cellphone 24 hours a day after surgery: guaranteed!

I had been researching this for 3 years, the day I met Dr. Allam, I knew that at that moment I was completly ready. He answered all my questions (the benefits as well as all the risks), before I asked them and his even keel is very comforting. When I left his office, I turned to my dad and said "now I am ready." His staff is equally as nice. I believe that they care about the long term changes for you, they want your sucess almost as much as you do. I could not find one bad thing to say about anyone in that office, so far. Dr Allam and his staff offer the entire package! they give you a list of specialists that are familiar with all the aspects of the surgery, but you are free to use your own doctors as well. He highly recommends the support group (which he attends, along with the nutrionist and the psychologist) and aftercare is a must. I prefer surgical competence in a doctor, which Dr.Allam has, as for his bedside manner, I don't know yet....(after attending the support group and listening to all the stories, it sound like he really cares). If you were looking into this operation, my suggestion would be to do your homework, reasearch the hell out of it and find someone you are comfortable with. I have.
