Thomas J. White, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center

Dr. White is a former third grade student of my mothers. He seems very knowledgable of bariatric surgery, and all the issues that lead someone to this decision, including the genetic make up some of us are pre-disposed to in our weight gain. His office staff is very helpful in doing what is possible to secure an approval with your insurance company. He is very much all about the education from the procedure through aftercare process, stressing support groups and such. Dr. White's bedside manner and apparently his surgical abilities is phenominal as he has performed over 300 surgeries, and has not lost a patient.

My first impression was very pleasant and my impression continues to be the same. He is a wonderful doctor and has a way with making you feel like you are very important. He has always taken time to answer my questions. His office staff is equally great.
The thing that I dislike is that he talks too fast and that makes me nervous because I am afraid I may miss something that he says. I haven't been disappointed in my doctor but I was extremely disappointed in my hospital care and wonder why he continues to use this hospital. I have talked to other patients in the waiting room who had the same complaints about the hospital.
His aftercare program is 1 month post op, them 3 months thereafter. He offers support groups that meet once a month.
I would rate him as the greatest Doc.

My first impression of Dr. White was he was very professional. He is a very skilled and competant surgeon. His office staff have been very helpful with any and all questions I have had. My advise if you are considering him for a surgeon is to do your homework (research) about WLS. He tends to "assume" you have done the research and sometimes doesn't go into detailed enough information. His aftercare is great. There is a monthly support group meeting that is run by either office staff, or a psychologist. He comes in the last 15 minutes of the meeting to ask if anyone has any questions or concerns. I would rate him very highly for WLS. He is an excellent surgeon.

I have already completed this information when I signed on last July when I was one-month post op. In case you no longer have that information, I will reiterate that Dr. White is an extremely competent physican whose skills are unmatched in the Omaha area. His bedside manner is compassionate and caring. He truly cares about the well-being of every patient and continues his interest during every office visit no matter how busy he is at that time.

Dr. White is very personable but spends very little time with you. I am sure he sees way too many patients to take an interest in any but that is a little off putting. He is a great surgeon with a high success rate but needs to have some kind of an after care program to track the long term progress of his patients. The lapbanding procedure is vastly different from the RNY gastric bypass but his educational material does not address the lapbanding, only the bypass. It is difficult to find information about the after care for the lapbanding.
His staff is helpful, when you can get to talk to them. I would highly recommend him as a surgeon.

I was so impressed with Dr White. He was very patient, very thorough, did a fantastic job with my surgery. I have had no complications whatsoever. I would highly recommend him to everyone. If I have one complaint, it is that the wait time for follow-up visits is very long. For a 1:00 PM appointment, you'd consider yourself lucky to get in to see him by 2:30. But once you do see him, he takes his time and talks to you, so it's worth it. His staff is great. I have talked to everyone who works in his office at one time or another, and they have all been very respectful and helpful. I could not recommend him higher.

I haven't met him yet, my first appointment is on June 2nd 2003.
Just an update, I met Dr. White for the first time on June 2nd, he had a group meeting for all those interested in the surgery. He was very informative and his assisstant was very helpful too.
I finally had my appointment with Dr. White on Dec. 16th, 2003. He was very informative and very kind. His staff was very considerate also. I have my surgery date for March 1st 2004.
3/02/04 Well my surgery went well on 2/23/04 and Dr. White and his staff were great! Dr. White had also studied with my regular doctor and they are friends, so that made things easier too.

My first impression of Dr White was that he was a very caring and educated man. I was going to go to another doctor before I met Dr. White. He has wonderful bedside manner and asked about my life and interest. That is hard to find in a doctor. My Impression of him has not changed. His office staff could use some work. I had a problem with my insurance and I felt as if I had to do all the foot work, it was like they did not want to "fight" to get my approval. Pat is very nice and organized. I also LOVE Linda the new bariatric nurse, she is great! I have talked with Angie a few times and she is very nice as well.. I have heard good things about her. I loved Dr. Whites bedside manner and assurance all would be well. He is very confident in what he is doing. I think future patients should know that he is very caring, I will let you know more after the Surgury.. Dr. Whites aftercare program looks great. Dr White was very upfront with the risks and complications. He was also very upfront with all of the benifits. On a scale from 1-10 He is a 8 1/2. I think both his bedside manner and surgical competence are great at this time. Will let you know more after surgury.
