Thomas J. White, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center

12/22/02 I have my first appointment with him on January 14th. UPDATE 1/8/03 My appointment has been changed to January 22nd, I haven't even had an appointment with Dr. White and I have surgery scheduled on the 27th, God works in mysterious ways. If you read my posts you will see that I was with another doctor until he left his position and I was left hanging to find a new surgeon. Dr. Whites office has been more than accomodating with taking care of paperwork and everything.

1: At first I felt very comfortable around him. He seemed very nice and knowledgable.
2: Well I dont feel that he really answered a lot of the questions I had as I would have liked him too. I think he needs to work on things like this. I think he expects his patients to know everything on thier own, which was ok for me, because I spent over a year researching about the surgery, so I knew pretty much, but some others may not.
3: They were okay too, not great, but ok.
4: He has NO follow-up with his patients, I thank God everyday that I have a family doctor that is as great as she is. Once she found out that he had no follow-up, sho dove right in to learn as much as she could, she now does all my bloodwork, check-ups and B12 shots. She is AWESOME!!
5: He is good at what he does, Surgery, anything outside of that will have to be done by you.
6: As I have said before, there is no aftercare. But I am hopeful that is getting better, they have just now started a support group.
7: Again, he seems to expect his patients to know most everything, which I agree people considering this surgery should know. However, there are a lot of people who dont have the internet or just havent taken the steps to truly educate themselves on it. So I think he needs to improve on that.
8: I think he is an awesome surgeon, I had no problems with him in that dept. I think that his before and after care needs to be worked on though.
9: surgical competence

My consultation appointment with Dr. White is 9/30/02 since I will be out of the state until then. First call to office very friendly, however, they did not send the paperwork as promised. Second call woman was rude but i got the paperwork the next day! I will update after my appointment.
10/8/02 I had my consultation appointment with Dr. White on 9/30/02. He gave me a booklet about the differnet types of wls to look over and returned to the room a few minutes later. He asked if I had memorized the book. I told him I thought so! He asked a question and because of doing my reseach on this web sight, I could answer it! He seemed suprised. I did have a list of questions regarding his experience etc and he answered them all. Not seeming to mind the questions. I had a packet prepared to submit to insurance to give him at this meeting. I also told him he sould registar with this web sight, since this was how I had found him. We did not talk about follow up care. I don't think he has any kind of structured aftercare program. He did ask if I was aware of the risks of surgery. I feel he has a real good grip on this kind of surgery and he did mention in our conversation the various seminars and studies he has attended regarding wls. I feel confident that he is a competent surgeon and look forword to having him do my surgery.

The day I went for my consultation, there were several people waiting in the office. He had a surgery that went longer than planned, so he was moving through everyone very quickly. For some this was nice, but to be honest, I do wish he had spent more time going over the procedure. I have done my research, though and I am very comfortable with going through with the RNY procedure. He and his staff are all wonderful. The waiting time for both consultation and surgery are extremely short compared to the other surgeons in Lincoln. I am excited and very thankful that I was able to go through this office. My advice to anyone is to research, research, research, and read profiles.

Dr White was great. He is fairly new to this type of surgery but not a new surgeon. He is one of the leading laporascopic surgeons in Omaha. I have absolutely no doubts as to his abilities. He doesn't have a support group set up yet, but is working on getting one. There was not a long wait time for the consultation or the surgery date. It has been relatively easy so far. Dr White was very personable, friendly and outgoing, he is young but answered any questions I had. I was completely at ease with him. The office staff was helpful and informative.
