Wisconsin Bariatrics, SC Bariatric Center

Dr. Chua is a wonderful Doctor. I had met him years ago at St Mary's where I work. I never expected to have him as a surgean! He is kind and very informative. I know my future experience will be great. I met with him on the 19th and all the preop and other info was set up on the same day. The staff is wonderfull, could ask for better people. I was so happy when I left that everything went so well I was in tears.

I originally had a surgeon closer to home chosen for my surgery. My Angels were looking out for me and directed me to Dr Chua in Milwaukee. He is everything I could've hoped for in a Dr! Kind, straightforward and especially understanding! I came with a list I had made of Questions I wanted answered, he answered them ALL during our conversation! His staff is Great! After we talked and my insurance authorization was given to Tammylynn and Tammy I was given a surgery date! Sept 3rd! He has 26 years of experience in this field, and has done 1000's of these surgeries. I would rate Him and his Staff a 10+!

08-15 I met with Dr. Chua and found he is a very pleasant man. After discussing my situation, we decided on VBG because of less chance of complications and deficiencies. His office staff was very friendly and very busy, but spoke to me as if they knew me for years. I felt very comfortable. I am now just waiting for insurance approval (hopefully not too long) and setting a surgery date-hopefully this year!

My first impression of Dr. Chua was he was straight forward and honest about the procedure, friendly,.
No. my impression never changed.
Dr. Chua's office staff was nice, very understanding.
I really liked the way the Doctor's staff handled the insurace company.
Dr. Chua will find a way to get you approved, and give you plenty of information, so that you can make an informed decision about which procedure you would like.
He has dietians, after care nurses, support group pamplets, and web sites to visit for support. And, of course I have his number if I have any questions, or concerns.
I will see in about less than a week.
He addressed the risks of surgery by, giving me handouts, addressing my pre-surgery health issues, and by telling me that with any surgery there are risks.
I would rate Dr. Chua an 100 out of 100, just because he made me feel so comfortable. He made me feel as if he would help people like me even if he was not being paid todo so.
Your last question, cannot be addressed yet.

I had my surgery on 3/12/02 in Milwaukee, WI at St. Lukes Hospital. My surgeon was Thomas Chua, he is an absolute angel in my book. Dr. Chua and I met at an informational meeting on Jan. 15th of this year, my husband and I were so impressed with his credentials, experience and his office assistant-Tammy. I walked away from there feeling very confident. I knew that he was the ONE that I could trust my life to. When I had my consult in Feb. he answered all MILLION of my questions :) with patience and care. He drew diagrams for us and talked to us like we were old friends. The day of surgery, he came in to see me before surgery and showed great compassion and encouraged me to ask any last minute questions that I might have had. He visited me daily during my stay at the hospital, always making me laugh. I've seen him twice since then and he has been very resourceful, knowledgeable and compassionate towards me and my care. My mother absolutely loves him. He will be the surgeon I choose when I am ready for my T.T. I go to see him later this month and am looking forward to that visit. I would rate Dr. Chua a 11 on a scale of 1 to 10. He also offers a monthly support group. My only negative was as everyone has and that's the wait...but there is no surgeon that doesn't have a wait for this surgery right now. If he or she doesn't I would be skeptical and wonder why!

I first met Dr Chua at an informational seminiar on WLS and right away I loved him. I just can't explain what the connection is but he treats all like human beings not like another dollar in his pocket. I had my consult appointment in February and at that time he explained everything in more detail. I had my surgery May 20, 2002 and am now 4 weeks post-op and feeling fantastic. If I had to do it all over I would choose Dr Chua in a second. He was very warm and caring after surgery and made sure I was well taken care of. As for his office staff they are great! Things move alittle slow but Dr is soooooo busy with surgeries, but the wait is well worth it. One thing is that they do not have a well structured aftercare program, but are very helpful with any questions that arise. On a scale from 1 to 10 I would rate Dr Chua and his staff a 10.

On OCT.14th, I attended an information meeting in Milwaukee, WI. given by Dr. Thomas Chua and his staff. The meeting lasted about one and a half hour, but I didn't feel I needed to attend the meeting in order to have the surgery. The first step could have been skipped because I didn't really learn anything new, I had done a lot of research already on the different types of surgeries. Dr. Chua does the VBG and the RNY gastric bypass and because of my size and my eating habits, I knew I would be having the RNY distal gastric bypass. Well, after the meeting was over, Dr. Chua and Tammy his office assistant, stayed a while to greet people individually who had questions. My first impression of Dr. Chua was that he was very approachable. I didn't feel intimidated asking questions at all.(Usually I am, I had a bad experience with with another doctor before seeking Dr. Chua.) He seemed very concerned and reassured me that surgery is possible for me even at 570lbs. His assistant Tammy also answered any insurance concerns I had. I don't know if they have an aftercare program, I'll have to ask the next time I call. He did inform me of the risks of WLS, but I also know the risks if I don't have surgery. I would rate Dr. Chua a 10 for now because of his experience and knowlege of this surgery and also for being able to not just hear my concerns, but also being able to listen to them. I really, truly in my heart believe that surgical competence and bedside manner are a must in order for me to put my faith and trust in someone who will be taking my life literally in his hands.

Dr. Chua is a caring, nice, competent doctor. I found him to be easy to talk to and he answered all the questions I asked. I didn't feel rushed at all. Tammylynne (his receptionist) is very knowledgeable about everything and is helpful and friendly. I don't have any negative comments to say about Dr. Chua or Tammylynne. They are both very very nice. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dr. Chua to anyone who desires to have weight loss surgery.

On February 20th, I had an informational session with Dr. Chua and his staff. While this was more informational and a type of question and answer forum, I felt very comfortable with Dr. Chua at this point. He has been performing bariatric surgery since the 70's and is currently the only surgeon in the state of Wisconsin licensed to perform the LAP-BAND procedure. He also has several other procedures he performs and went through the pros and cons of each, as well as the surgeries he will not perform and why. We also had the opportunity to speak with two patients who had already gone through the surgery as well as a very informative session with his office staff on insurance. I also learned that you are not able to get a consult with Dr.Chua until your insurance company has approved you for the surgery or you are self pay, which I guess in some ways is understandable; I guess I just have a really soft heart and saw so many people there that evening who were needing his help, myself included. Anyway, at this point I have now sent in all my paper work, received on 02/25/02 and am waiting to hear from my insurance. If I am able to get a consultation date with Dr. Chua I will update you further.

I thought he was very nice and knowledgable. He has been doing WLS for 20 years and other laproscopic surgerys. So, that puts me at ease because I am have the lap-band procedure which is fairly new.
